This place has the best priced sushi in Dunedin. Even if it’s not the most tasty it still delivers every time! We have had some of their meals there and they are a little bland but cheap and you get a good sized portion, get for the student budget!

We had the chicken fried noodles and chicken satay. There were pools of oil around my noodles which were bland. The sauce was thin and flavourless, the chicken rubbery. The satay sauce was the same as the chow mein sauce, plus about 5 peanuts so didn’t taste like satay at all. I would have preferred satay from a can (and that’s saying something!).
This place does good value sushi but I would suggest staying far away from any other meals.

Great for Takeaway, it’s a buzzing little place so it can be hard to get a seat for a sit down meal. If you do, they have (huge) tasty wanton soup which I can recommend. The best sushi in town and at $5 my first choice for lunch a quick lunch. The service is “cafe-style” don’t expect to be waited on hand and foot

I think ”SAVORY JAPAN” is just good because if u ask a plate of fried rice u will get too much and the food is not spicy at all i give this restaurant 2/5

Great wee restaurant, friendly staff, well priced food is quite cheap but the food is beautiful, I love the vegetables here not overcooked like some places. Would recommend to all and regularly dine here.

This place is a little hit or miss. I’ve had 2 excellent visits to this place and also 2 very bland and not-so-good ones. Choose your selections wisely

Fabulous decor here in a very clean sushi house. They serve yummy sushi in a variety of different priced packs – so it’s good to suit different appetites.

Did you eat at this restaurant? Have an opinion to share?

The name “Savory Japan” implies Japanese made and Japanese food, which both are not available at this second grade venue. Why the name “Japan” is used in this eatery is not understandable. We found out this venue was target towards young Uni students and innocent kiwi’s who are unaware of restaurants posing as international cuisine servers.
The staff were not Japanese at all, they were Chinese, Thai, Philippine etc and their food making ethic was shocking.
For the young and uninitiated this would be a place to slip the word “sushi” but in reality it is an “Asian eatery”.
This is not a Japanese restaurant.
