Very famous cafe and it was only the cafe around there.
I knew that many books from that cafe. That’s why I expected very much of that cafe.

Very nice interior inside which was country style.

Staffs served without smile, Meal is not bad but not as good as their famous.

I had fish’n chips that I only can recommend have there, but it’s expensive. My friends ordered other dish, something was good but small amount than we expected

If interested in interior that it is worth it to visit, but if you consider of food, I suggest to read the other review about this cafe.

Wow! I’m glad it wasn’t just me that was really disappointed with Seagars on my last visit. I was mortified at how rude the girl was that served us. She was unfriendly, forgot parts of our order (and was not apologetic at all), banged food down on our table and seemed to have this attitude with all of her customers. I was embarrassed that I had talked the restaurant up to my mother. Neither of us enjoyed it at all.
(We dined early January)

Well worth the drive out to Oxford. Best meal we have had on our travels in and around Christchurch

My mother and 2 of my siblings were down from Auckland, so I drove them to Seagars as we had heard so many good things about the food.
The food was absolutely lovely, but the customer service left much to be desired. 3 of us had completely finished our meals before the last meal came out, after asking where it was 2 times. (we later found out that they had forgotten to ring the order up) and we found the duty manager very rude and dismissive. However in saying all that, she didnt charge us in the end for the late meal. But we wont be returning anytime soon.

I will start off with the good points.
Seagar’s cafe had a nice decor and the staff were friendly and quick to take our order. The homewares store (although not necessarily part of the cafe itself) was also a nice addition and I enjoyed browsing through the items for sale there.

Having said that, given the name behind the cafe, I was unimpressed with the food. We ordered a 3 tiered plate of sandwiches, cakes and other nibble foods and requested that a fair share of it be vegetarian, as one of our party did not eat meat or cheese (given the rennet so often present). Our waitress noted this, and told us they’d be happy to reserve one of the plates for vegetarian only.

When the tray arrived, however, only one of the savoury items (two of the three plates consisted of savoury) was actually vege (if you do not count the slice of tomato and cucumber)!

The cake on the third plate tasted dry and old, and overall, there was not near enough food (or variety) to feed three people as intended.

I had high expectations, but will not be returning. A real disappointment.

We drove all the way to Seagers from Christchurch en route to Akaroa and it was certainly worth it. Firstly, what a lovely setting which must be stunning in winter with snow on the mountains. The cafe and gift shop next door are delightful. All the staff are friendly and welcoming, the food was yummy. Because we are Aucklanders, we obviously won’t be able to get back to Seagers often, but believe me, it is definitely worth a visit for locals and tourists in the area. We even bought a painting of a typical South Island farming scene with a farmer herding cows along a country road in the early morning mist. I stocked up on cake tins from the shop while I was at it. Good on you Seagers.

Having read afew unhappy reviews of Seagers at Oxford I didn’t know what to expect when we went there for lunch yesterday. However it was excellent! Busy lunch hour but service was prompt and friendly and the food was perfect. Can’t fault it. Will definately go back again.

We had a family of 7 no booking and had a small wait for lunch but was so worth it. We were offered the private dining room and the staff and food were fantastic. My 4 year old daughter was catered for with a special yummy childrens meal that we all wanted to try some (she wouldnt share and ate it all) I cant wait to go back again soon.

Travelled a long way to get to the Cafe, arrived at lunchtime and there were a few spare tables. A waitress told us to sit at any table we liked so we found a nice table outside in the sun. Sat and waited for 20 minutes, got completely ignored no menus given to us and no drink orders. Went to the counter and asked if we should order coffees/food there and was told that someone would be with us shortly. Waited another 10 minutes getting completely ignored again, tried to catch the eye of one of the waitresses but she didn’t want to know so we got up and left and went to Cafe 51 for lunch instead. Service absolutely appalling, I do not expect to sit at a table for 30 minutes and be completely ignored. Annoyed we travelled so far to get there and definitely will never go back again. Maybe staff need to be sent on a customer service course!

Waited 20 mins for a table, not too bad as had lovely coffee while we waited. However waited an hour for meals and to be honest I would of rather gone to McDonalds. My chowder was something I could of made myself and the bacon and egg breakfasts that the boys at our table had said it was nothing special, and probably prefered the bacon and eggs they get at home. The eggs were over cooked and I even noticed the eggs benedicts the next table were having were also hard. So overall I was very disappointed. Travelled a long way for a special occasion and to be honest the food was average, wasn’t anything to complain about but nothing to rave about either, I wouldn’t recommend and don’t think I would bother giving a second chance.

I live in Auckland and was really happy that my friend in Christchurch said we would go to Seagers for lunch on a recent visit to ChCh. There wrere 5 in out group and we were all very unhappy. 1 with the service of one of the waitresses. 2 with the selection of food for lunch-we were there at 12.15pm and the salmon was off the menu. 3 The presentation of the food was not great, the steak was served on top of the chips resulting in spoggy chips. The curry barely had a taste of curry. The tasting platter for desert was fine. However after all the anticipation of having a really exciting lunch, as we are all fans of the cookbooks, we all ended up really dissappointed.
