The food here is delicious but the service is quite appalling. They are overstaffed, but under-trained. We had a booking for 5 for a birthday party & were told when we arrived that someone had called to cancel our booking (which certainly hadn’t been us) but they would do their best to accommodate us. We shared 2 entrees & 5 mains and ALL were delicious, but as soon as we had finished our mains we were asked to leave. It was a birthday party, we’d only been there an hour and we weren’t allowed to order dessert? Seriously?! No explanation was given at the table, but when we went to pay we asked why we couldn’t order dessert & were told by another staff member that a party of 11 that had cancelled had arrived anyway and they were short staffed now. Firstly, am I to believe that they had 2 bookings cancel & then arrive anyway? It sounds like whoever takes their bookings severely screwed up. Secondly, was our table supposed to leave to accommodate another table that came in after us? This makes no sense & although the food is great, I will NOT be back. I suggest the chef find a better home

One of the Best experience of having curries CURRIES I spent just $11:90 and served with Two Non Veg Curries (Chicken Saagwala and Lamb Banjare) with naan rice and small mango lassi (I am in love with it now). Must say that best deal for student and Taste was great and ambiance was awsome Goshhhh I am now the biggest fan of Shahi Tandoor. Service was excellent waiters were friendly and helpful. Definately gonna visit this place with my family and friends.

Went for a meal here last night, and it was excellent. Had Chicken Patiala with Kashmiri Naan (I think that’s right?), and it was very well priced, tasted great, and was too big for me to finish. Only problem was when I spilled my beer all over my shirt, but that was my fault for missing my mouth…

Great place, reasonable prices ($19 for a pint, a curry and naan is great)! A level up from your usual Dunedin Indian restaurant, friendly service and hot towels brought to you before your meal! All the food was fresh and delicious, the I had the paneer with mint chutney. Last time I went they even brought us deserts on the house to try (home-made mango ice-cream which was great). We are students so not big spenders but were still made to feel very welcome…

We went there for dinner one night and we had the vegetarian banquet. The food was very appetizing but the service was rather awful. They had a wine list but it was mostly out of stock. What really disappointed us was when the owner told us that we are not allowed to takeaway the food that was left. We felt a little cheated because the waiter did not mention such policy when we ordered. Overall, the food was good but the waiter could use a bit of training and the manager needs to sort something out about their no takeaway policy with the banquet menu.

We’ve been to this place three times now & each time being excellent. The most recent being last night. There were 14 of us & never heard any complaints from anyone. The service & the food is great. Will definitely be going back

Their buffet which we went for is a joke. Only 2 choices. no salads, papad, sweet dish. Naan bread served at the table and we had to wait for a long time for it. Every time we had to ask the waiter for it who had no training at all. The waiters need more training in customer service. grumpy and rude. They do not cook in the restaurant. They got Naan bread from their other outlet in a plastic bag and just heat it to serve. & was undercooked. We have been to quite a few Indian restaurants all over NZ and this is by far the worst.

Went there with a group of friends and have to say, worst service ever. Just because we were students, they treated us like crap. Didn’t offer water, had to wait for a long time to be served and then they tried to clear our plates before we were even finished and we were not being loud at all. If you open a restaurant in central Dunedin, the heart of studentville and treat students like that, your gonna loose money. Would never go back there again and will make sure to tell my friends all about our horrible experience. The food was average, same as all the other indian restaurants but they treat their customers better!!

Never ever going back to this place! The quality of the food is pretty s**t! We ordered the masala dosa which come with potato and onion stuffing. The stuffing was cold and they may just “heated it” before serving. The potatoes tasted funny and seemed stale :/ We barely ate our food. I had mango kulfi afterwards which was actually quite good. however, my friend ordered the gajjar halwa served with ice cream. They served it with cookies n cream ice cream..really?! cookies and cream with Indian desert at a “classy” restaurant?! And the halwa wasn’t that nice either!
I went a couple of weeks before and ordered the chicken dahiwala..they chicken tasted really funny and old! Didn’t really eat that either!
Service is good..waiters are nice but I think they need to learn the menus cos they confuse dishes and forget!
Overall 2/5..Wouldn’t recommend the restaurant at all!

Have tried a few dishes from here now and can honestly say they have the best chicken biryani in Dunedin, the dosas are amazing, and the chicken bhuna is off the hook! Definitely my new regular Indian place. Not only that but its has a great ambience + the service is also amazing. 5 stars no less.
