I love the food at sher a punjab, especially the vegetarian menu. Randomly discovered this place few years ago when walking on dominion road and decided to try their cuisine. Food was great felt home made, the owners are very nice and down to earth. Have gone there so many times after this and not had any complaints.

great restaurant, fun family environment and such a mouth watering food. I’ve always had butter chicken at Indian places but loved trying there specialty amritsari chicken and goat. if ever feel like having Indian, Sher-a-panjab is the place to go.

We moved from Wellington to Auckland and had tasted countless Indian restaurants, this is the best of them all, we go there once every week, anyone who is looking for top Indian cuisine, look no further. The owner of the place is a very nice Punjabi couple and they make the best Thandi Kheer ever, anyone who’s into it should try it
and by the way Nick from downstairs, there is something wrong with your taste spots and sense of time, go to a doctor and check them out, they never took any longer than 10-15mins to cook and the food is hot and fresh everytime we go there, never messed up once, so maybe they just don’t like you.

I am 100% sure that this was my worst indian food experience ever. I have been to plenty indian restuarants and all have been up to a certain standard, even the bad ones! Eating the food at this restaurant was worse than the indian that i have made for myself at home. It was barely warm, it took 30mins to prepare and tasted like they cooked some bland chicken and had a tin of cheap indian tomatoes and dumped it on top. The meal costed 35+ and me and my girlfriend were bewildered how terrible it was. To this date I have never had a worse meal, i would rather have spent 35 dollars on marmite on toast.
Authenticity in Auckland’s Indian food is not common. To find authentic AND meat, as opposed to pure vegetarian, is very rare. This is one of those rare ones. It’s recently changed its name to Sher-a-Punjab but the owners are the same and so is the food. Here mutton = goat, so do try the mutton thali. At $10.50 it’s an absolute bargain. The meat is on the bone and just melts away, the spicing is wonderful and the accompanying bits and pieces are lovely. Don’t have the common or garden stuff that they’re forced to put on the menu….be adventurous and you will be rewarded.
