Shocking customer service, manager (Let’s call him Yung-Ming) advised ” we don’t have enough food and no take away box available.” Criticized customer as “useless” repeatedly. Absolutely unbelievable customer service as a whole team, terribly overpriced, poor quality and quantity for its cost.
In the end I found out that they are closing the business and today is their last day …… what else can I say?

Service here is shocking and food standards terrible. If i could give 0 stars I would!
Rang up yesterday to see if I could order some food in advance as my husband is ill and we wanted a quick dinner. The waitress put me on hold for 5mins and then came back on the phone and said that because they were very busy I just had to come in at the time she managed to “squeeze” me into. So you can imagine my surprise when we showed up and the restaurant was empty bar 2 tables of people who looked like they were close to finishing their meal.
Even though we were pretty much the only ones there the food still took 30 mins to arrive and in the meantime the last patron’s dishes remained uncleared from the table next to us the whole time! When the food finally arrived my husband’s chicken ( the only thing on the menu) was cold, the miso soup tasted like dish water and the portions miserable.
I definitely won’t be coming back here again. If you’re looking for Japanese food , go down the road and you’ll find better food and service at cheaper prices.

This was a terrible Japanese restaurant. When we first got there they seemed to have lost our booking then when we were seated they told us that there was no beef, pork or fish available at the moment. Really? A restaurant with only chicken? Seriously, just go to the supermarket!
We ordered two dinner boxes, a sashimi sushi set, mori soba and a mixed tempura set. All of these dishes were underwhelming. The dinner boxes were something you would expect at a Japanese takeaway place in a food court. The sashimi was small and stingy, and they didn’t have any Japanese beer either which amazed us! Neither could you order ice green tea which is usually a stable in a Japanese restaurant. And don’t even get me started on the bathroom, it was like a dark broom closet! All in all, we were very disappointed and will not be visiting this place again.

Worst Japanese place I’d ever been to in Auckland. The service was bad and the dishes we had were just tasteless deep fried junk. We just wished we’d gone to Karin instead.. (same street, a block away). Or Tanuki’s cave, Ken Yakitori, Daikoku etc. anything but that place…

Wine was the real problem, but service was very slow also.
Wanted to drink Savignon Blanc, only available at $15 a glass, so decided to buy a bottle instead at $35 as listed, but they only had one bottle available to serve glasses from….go figure.
Won’t be returning with such choice of far better Japanese food and service (and wine list), in Auckland.

$25 for BYO corkage then a half hour wait to be served the first course which was soya beans more soya beans for the second and third courses and cold rice. Very slow service – one other couple walked out – would not recommend unless you really like soya beans there are other Japanese restaurants far better in Parnell

Working in Parnell there are many Japanese restaurants to choose from. I just got back from eating lunch at Shoubu and it was so good I felt compelled to sign up to MenuMania and write a review. I had the Sashimi lunch box and it was the best quality/value I have had in Auckland. I also saw the $13 Shoubu lunch box and it was huge! Go there for lunch now.

Shoubu is the best. We have been going there since it opened, and we try to go as often as we can! The prices are EXCELLENT unbeatable, and the food is amazing. The chefs and staff are always friendly, and the food is always beautifully prepared. It is fair to say we are addicted to this place – and can not believe why it is always so quiet! These guys deserve more customers so please check it out! You won’t regret it!

Ate here for the 1st time last night for dinner, 2 adults and 2 kids. We love Japanese food! Great food especially the set menus which for $32 is quite a lot of food for one person. Would definitely recommend this restaurant, and we will be coming back again.

Actually they hired a real Japanese Sheff lately from Kyoto. We are all Japanese and All of us are soooooo impressed with real Japanese style dishes which finally arrived in NZ!!!! (I have lived here for 5years but that was one of the BEST Japanese restaurant in NZ) such a beautiful and tasty Japanese dishes.
They have $30 special dinner course and you can eat great 5 Japanese dishes. That was very tasty, enough foods and unbelievably good deal! Everyone was very happy at that night, Arigato-! we will definitely come back there again soooon
you should really try once if you want to try real Japanese.

This is just an another Korean-Japanese restaurant. All staff are Korean and services are not that great. I dont know why they are even calling themselves as “Japanese”. very disappointed.
