Quite disappointing as the yum char food is really quite good but the service is definitely lacking!!! Have been here 3 times, and have been over charged 2 out of those 3 times! The first time, I didn’t say anything and paid, but the second time I corrected him and the manager just replied “I guess you and I have different ideas”…umm what???
So ALWAYS calculate what you order before going to the counter or you will get ripped off!
(-) Horrible manager who tries to overcharge you almost every time!!! And then pretends that you are wrong when you correct him.
(-) Some of the waiting staff do not know any English which can be hard to order if you do not have a Chinese person in your dining party.
(-) On the more pricey side for Yum Cha food.
(+) The waiting staff do seem to be quite polite and helpful
(+) Good food, my favourite is the Durian mochi- but be warned it is not for everyone!!!

I got myself two vouchers and visited this yam char place. The food was good. I get to eat a lot but when I come to the counter the bold headed guy or manager is the most unpleasant guy I ever met. He looks at the items and then charge me about $7+ on top of my $30 voucher. I think of calculating the amount of food but instead of arguing with him I let him have face after he said there is a $1.50 table charge. I felt like I been treated by a follow Chinese who come to eat free and not paying a cent for my food. Its the real disappointment that I have been overcharged by about $5.00 and I will still go there but I will count every cent I am charge and I hate people being treated like we are being given free food. Especially when I have the voucher from Treat Me and not to be treated like I have not paid my lunch. I felt like telling the guy that if they are in my shoe and they have bought the voucher thinking is a deal or a treat what would they expect. What a awful person he is and liken to the old man who formally owned Penang Cafe in Otahuhu that overcharge people he do not like.

For customer service this one really rates a zero, but I gave it a 2 as the food was okay. Waitress was okay, but the Manager on duty really doesn’t know the meaning of friendly welcoming service with a smile. In fact, we wanted to find a new restaurant to go to, but we won’t be coming back to this one.

If it was possible to give no stars then this would be the rating for this terrible restaurant.
I have been here on several occassion for Yum Char and the only reason I have gone back is because there squid is really good if you get it when its hot.
After buying a voucher on a deal site we decided to go for dinner. We had the worst experience I have ever had in any restaurant. The service was no existant, basically had to help ourselves and it would have been faster if we went in the kitchen and cooked it ourselves.
We ordered several dishes and the drip feed us bringing on dish out at a time, one every 30 min. I mean seriously who wants to eat one dish at a time! The were however serving a another group of people who were obviously family or maybe it was because the were asians without vouchers.
We ended up walking out in disgust having not been served all our dishes and refusing to pay anymore, I even feel ripped off because we paid for the vouchers.
Do Not Eat Here !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can’t believe this place can even survive with such poor standards

WORST Chinese restaurant I have ever been.
The chicken which we got served was so cold – felt like it was straight from the fridge.
They charged us $3 stating it is “Table charge”.
Was told by the staff that rice is $1 per head, but the owned charged me $2 per head when I was paying. He said that the menu is not correct!
They charged me $1.50 for a glass of tap water!
The plates which were given to us, were not clean. You could see that there were oily stains on them.
I eat out a lot but I have NEVER come across anything as WORST as this!

i should have checked the prior reviews for this poorly rated restaurant before i visited ! i suppose the operator probably doesn’t care one way or another abt its poor rating thus far, but as a diner, i suggest you should ! this is my first review on any restaurant i visited so you can only imagine how much they must have pissed me off! how bad it must have been! I went there to enjoy a meal and to pay for their food and a decent service! Not expecting a special treatment and definitely not for free food!!!!!!!
we went this afternoon for yum cha, the service was really really poor, despite requests for service they saw us as ‘transparent’ and we were mostly ignored by the waitresses with the food trolleys, with some efforts we managed to order some dishes and also made some requests since we have been ignored by the waitresses with trolleys, but we also expect to be given the opportunity to order from the trolley as you would expect in a REAL yum cha restaurant. After much wait and when i finally got hold of a waitress to ask why we have been ignored, she said because we had ordered certain dishes so the waitresses with the food trolley who all “knew” (?)about it thought and didn’t see the need to serve us anymore! What a poor excuse, we then asked her to go check up our orders, she came back and told us that they have run out of those dishes !! so when did they or any of them know abt our orders and that they no longer have what we ordered? why no one thought we need to know abt this! and the waitresses with food trolleys have been ignoring us despite this! ( I suspect our dishes were offered to another table by an inattentive waitress!) she then bring out certain remaining dishes they have left which were not to our liking so we were left there ” still hungry” with kind of take it or leave it and nothing else ! and left being ignored again by the restaurant after we told her we didnt like those dishes!! after a short wait with no prospect of being offered any alternatives /foods by this restaurant I asked to settle the bill for the little foods we managed to order earlier with some efforts by the way! and left to search for another place to eat more!
what a restaurant is this? that one should visit and left still feeling hungry? and why would one goes to a restaurant to be treated this way and then have to go buy food elsewhere?? why why why should one visit this restaurant I really wonder !!

Went here for a yum-cha lunch, in the weekend, about a month ago with the family. It was absolutely horrible! The food came out hot when we first arrived, but we noticed they started coming out cold part-way through our lunch. I asked for some things and they said they had run out, but saw them serving it to other people. I suspect they didn’t understand what I was asking for so came up with a standard “no more, run out” response! The man behind the till was grumpy and the one behind the bar likes to ignore people. I can’t decide which one was worse! The staff were also grumpy, especially the boys! We had to ask for our teapot to be refilled several times before anyone actually came to do it! When someone finally came, they looked really annoyed at us. We also asked for water, and that was yet another drama! The staff seemed to ignore and/or avoid people that couldn’t speak their language. The toilets were so disgusting, I didn’t bother actually going because I felt like I was going to throw up when I saw the state of it! I had to tell my mother not to go in at all!!
I will NEVER return to this place! It has to be one of the worst restaurants I’ve ever been to! The food was horrible, the people were horrible, the place is horrible … and the toilets were beyond horrible!

Food taste is good and the price is reasonable. I definitely come again!.
FYI, the day you got your sauce as soon as you ordered, is your lucky day as most of Yam char restaurant staffs are insanely busy always. It is fine by me.

Avoid!!!!!
the yum charr was partially cold, highly average and worst of all when waiting to pay we couldnt see the hygiene rating so we looked it up on this site: http://www.aucklandcit…
This restaurant has an E GRADE HYGIENE RATING…..which is the lowest possible grade given!!!!
Not even worth the groupon discounts that, surprise, surprise keep getting put up….

Went there on Father’s Day for Yum Cha. The service was poor as attendants did not supply sauce despite requesting it 3 times, the variety of dishes was lacking and those that were available ran out quickly. The food wasn’t fantastic. Wouldn’t go there again for Yum Cha. The better one is Dynasty Restaurant in Wakefield St. They hardly run out and service there is good

I have been coming here for years and have always found the food superb and efficient. The best time to come is around 11.45am when the food has just been prepared and you can have a great selection – fast and furious! A sign of a good restaurant is when it is full of Asians, and you do definitely feel like you have hit Hong Kong! The ambiance is lacking but I am there for the food, which is particularly good value during the week.

This Restuarant maybe be good for Yum Char- but if you go in the Evening the food is Tasteless, the rice was Cold, the food awful. I will never return. We came as a Group and were charged $49 instead of $30 even though we ordered 2 Tables and one was full. So seeing we came in a group I am only voicing my opinion and not for the gRoup as a whole. Its up to them to make a review each themselves.

I have lived for 17 years in Asia (5 of those in China). The yum char at Sichuan in Remuera is excellent and the price is very reasonable. On the downside, it feels like you are sitting in a cave. There is absolutely no ambiance……not so different to eating in Hong Kong! So if you are going for the food, definitely try this one. If you prefer nicer surroundings and service with a smile, go to Pearl Garden in Teed Street
