Everytime I go to Sitar, I always enjoy walking past the fools sat nearby in NiteSpice! hahahahaha! I mean really you can’t go two doors down and go to a quality establishment? I guess some people like to stick to the chains they know or whatever? Next night you’ll be eating cold curry delivered 3hrs late from Raviz at that rate! So I chuckle to myself and get ready for an awesome feed!

Great food at awesome prices. $10 lunch deal last two days as there is so much food. $40 takeaway banquet is also a great deal. Madras is so goddman tasty, and the Saag is also a favourite. The staff are friendly and get to know you quickly if you’re a regular. Delivery is free if you are local. What more could you want?

I’m English and we invented most of this food so I know what I’m talking about.

Last night I used a Groupon voucher for 2 entrees, 2 mains and 2 desserts for takeaway. The guys were really friendly and I was able to swap the desserts for 2 Naan bread. I didn’t worry about the price difference as I knew they weren’t making any money out of vouchers.
Rice is definately included in the price of the Mains and was served in 2 separate takeaway containers.
While I was waiting I noticed the restaurant looked very clean with crisp white tablecloths (and didn’t smell ‘musty’)
and also the toilet was exceptionally clean.
When I got home – 45 mins drive, the food was still hot and tasted awesome.
They must be doing great things to have an ‘A’ rating and still be in business after 25 years.
A definate for another visit. Thank you.

I went for the lunch special with my girlfriend and we reckon it was pretty tasty and good value. Didn’t use a coupon though.

I got stung extra charges for using a yazoom voucher at the curry place a few doors down, so i can sympathize with you all. Maybe its an Indian thing. Not good for business.

Okay, ignoring all the pros and cons of whether service was good, whether vouchers were used, whether corkage was an issue… blah blah blah… if you want to know whether it’s great Indian? The answer is: YES. Some of the best Butter Chicken (the yard stick here in NZ) of all time, plus great seafood options.

Authentic flavours, textures – having travelled to India and eaten out a lot I can recommend this place.

If you want a great dining ‘experience’ then go somewhere higher end. If you want great takeout or a good value Indian meal, minus all the frills, EAT HERE!

By far the worst Indian dining experience in Auckland!

We had Groupon vouchers and were discriminated against from the start. Service and food quality were the worst we have ever had. Dessert was a joke, a small spoon (yes really!) of ice cream is all we got as the option. Never again!

Advice to the owner – do not advertise on voucher sites if you are going to discriminate against people who buy these vouchers in good faith!

Not good value for money. We used a coupon and were told it did not apply to the lunch special, so we order 2 mains at $18-19 each dish for 3 people, then we were charged for rice and naan bread, a 3rd plate to use for sharing for $5.00. If you want to increase your business, guys, you should give good value and treat it as a hook to get people to come back again. Not an opportunity to fleece the coupon persons, who will now, not go back again. There are plenty of other Indian eateries aroudn this area, check them our for better value and free relishes, bread, poppdums etc.

An $18.50 meal is the meat and that’s all! A small serving at that!

Does not include rice and a naan which you would expect.

Had a good flavor, but wouldn’t pay that price again.

Also too many terms and conditions for the lunch menu. To share a plate of food you have to pay $5 extra, but get no more food for that $5, just a plate!
And to doggy bag a left over it costs $2!

Not good value at all. Will NOT be going again.

We used the cudo coupon for a dine in meal on a Saturday nite. Haven’t been to this restaurant before. The place is small and has a musty smell to it. The food was OK to good. What we were disappointed with was the honoring of the coupon. Its was suppose to be $60 value for $30 dollars. Rice and naan were to be free with the curries as was written on the board outside and according to waitress but we were charged $4 per person for rice, and $2 per person for corkage even with 2 kids at the table. These coupon deals seem good on paper but its disappointing as restaurants have lots of other charges to makeup the discount. Would not dine here again.

The thing that really makes Sitar stand out from the rest of the Indian restaurants in Auckland is that after eating there isn’t this massive heavy feeling in your stomach like there is when you normally eat Indian. You feel light. I only eat the from the Vegetarian Menu though.

Its my favourite Auckland Indian restaurant. I always take my friends there.

Once again (after many years of going to this restaurant) we had another fantastic meal. This is REAL VALUE FOR MONEY, the staff are friendly and the food is FANTASTIC!

15 July 2011 | And again a great meal! Tahnks Sitar for your consistently good Indian cuisine.

25 March 2011 | Same great food and service! :D

Hubby ordered hot but got mild, wifey ordered mild and got hot! No acknowledgement to the lady at the table only acknowledgement to hubby, is this for real? We were given some naan bread which we had not ordered and when questioned we were told it was complimentary, very nice we thought, however when we went to pay the bill we used an entertainment voucher and was told because we were using the voucher we would be charged for the naan. Not good customer service. As a previous reviewer said there are plenty of other good eateries within walking distance including 2 other Indian restaurants which we will use from now on. Forget Sitar.

While the food at Sitar was good, our experience was soured by the $2 per person corkage charge for wine, even for people who did not drink any. For a table of 5 we paid $10 for four people to drink one bottle of wine and this was not negotiable when we tried to reason with them. Thankfully, there are enough good Indian restaurants in the area that we will be able to avoid Sitar, the food was not good enough for us to forgive this policy of charging people who do not drink.
