Awful breakfast, the corn & courgette fritters were worse than I made when I was a 6 year old; bitter, over beaten and with no seasoning, accompanied by a sour “chutney” and wilted mesculan. Could have used SALT & PEPPER!!! Its not hard, honestly the worst $15.50 I have ever spent on breakfast, I would not have eaten them if I had not been up for 2.5hours prior and starving for my nice breakfast out. Other breakfasts in our party looked nice though. Staff non compliant and ambivalent about simple things such as WATER. Left and went to PRAVDA across the road for a coffee as no one considered to take our orders. Maybe it was just a bad day for Smith The Grocer, or maybe they are just resting on their laurels.

Really good service, friendly and welcoming. Had a beautiful greek salad, and a very average caramel slice… how hard is it to make a caramel slice? Very busy professional cafe – I will be back. 4 stars.
This is the most quaint inner-city cafe around. Decorated to resemble an old-style grocer shop, everything about Smith the Grocer is about superb presentation. The service can be a bit slow (it took a while for our coffees to arrive) but the food is fantastic and coffee worth the wait.
