‘Soi’, the Japanese translation for the French ‘bonjour’, is a new restaurant in the Remuera/Upland Road area. A new treat for the neighbourhood! Authentic Japanese cuisine, with a fabulous collection of New Zealand and French wines available.

Great service, wonderful food. Overall…fantastic. The homemade gyoza (dumplings) were excellent. Very authentic, lovely presentation. Small place only 4 four tops and about 6 two tops. Great selection of sake. Super fresh! Highly recommend. Nice kids menu as well.

Been here a few times with a voucher. Small restaurant but quite adequate for its purpose and nicely laid out. The staff are awesome. We were always treated in a friendly and attentive manner. Food we had was really tasty but had a set menu so cant vouch for other dishes off l a carte but did overhear others complimenting them. Prices are high for the small portions but hey its a Japanese restaurant in Remuera- the people they cater for in their area have plenty of money :) :)

Can’t believe they have a single bad review! Soi has to be one of the best Japanese restaurants we have been to. Intimate, great friendly service and most importantly fantastic food.

Must haves are: Torikara (the fried chicken – sounds like KFC but oh sooo good!), Beef Tataki, soft shell crab, spicy calamari, home made goyza (my wife’s favorite) and they have a good selection of sake.

It has become one of our regulars and the standard we measure all other Japanese restaurants on.

Love it.

Just got takeaways from Soi and definitely don’t feel we got value for money. Soi Box (a dinner box) was $25 and compared poorly to what we’ve had elsewhere for less in terms of both quality and quantity. Yaki udon noodle dish “with pork and vegetables” included just two pieces of pork, one piece of broccoli and some carrot. Very disappointing.

This is the real McCoy… and the flavours we experienced at dinner tonight brought back strong memories of Japan. Each sauce was a perfect, delicate balance of flavours, and the variety put lesser restaurants to shame.

The service is attentive, and the other diners there tonight ranged from a Japanese businessman sitting at the bar, just like in Japan, to local Remuera couples out for a quiet night.

If you crave good flavours, great service and an experience that is a step above your usual Japanese restaurant, then Soi is the place for you. Book ahead if possible, or at least grab the takeaway menu so you’re not disappointed if they’re busy.

It’s small, perfectly formed and an oasis of Japanese flavours in the Eastern Suburbs. Go now – we might see you there!

Just went here for lunch today. Amazing food, great service. Interesting goodies in the daily lunch box as well. I highly recommend the soi. pannacotta for dessert. A very light and refreshing way to end your meal.

Will definitely be returning regularly.

Very very good Japanese restaurant in the subsurb.

Great food, not the normal Japanese food you can get. We had lunch there with a Tempura Udon and a Lunch Box. Plus the Special Tuna Sashimi – Toru. Good price and friendly. Only thing is not as tidy as other Japanese Restaurant may be due to short staff in an afternoon
