We went there yesterday to celebrate Mother’s Day. It was the most shocking and disappointing experience. It took them more than 30 minutes to serve our starter – antipasti platter, which was nothing fancy but satisfying. However, as it took them this long to prepare it, our waitress told us that she would ask the kitchen to start preparing our lunch orders. More than 50 minutes later, our mains were still not ready. Follow up with waiting staff resulted in standard answers: your food will be ready in 3-4 minutes. When the manager came to talk to us, his response was “So what do you want me to do?” and “We have 100 people dining here, and you haven’t been here this long”. Few minutes later, our food arrived and what we were served could be best described as something that you would not consider feeding to your dog. A dish that was supposed to be “seared scallops” with pumpkin, rhubarb and passion fruit dressing, arrived as 3-5 olive sized pieces of cold scallops on masculine salad with unidentifiable dressing. Another dish of sirloin steak on Turkish bread with Portobello mushrooms was most uninspiring, tasteless dish on untoasted bread. But the most shocking was their Lucas breakfast dish. It arrived completely different to what was on their menu (it seemed that they pulled different ingredients from various dishes on the menu – whatever they had left over – and created a dish that was not even on their menu). The presentation was simply disgusting – thrown on the plate in a manner that most of us would have done a better job doing it ourselves at home. The sausage that appeared on the plate (although not on the menu), looked like something that was long passed its “best before” date, eggs were cold and already sagging, “black pudding tartlet” so dry that it no longer resembled what it should have been. Items that should have been on the plate were missing (e.g chips) and replaced with unidentifiable items. Absolutely, revolting.
Other things that were appalling: A cutlery were placed straight on the table, instead of serviettes– unhygienic, the menu that’s loaded on their website is no longer available – it appears that it was changed several weeks ago but never updated, and even something as simple as “long black” coffee was served as a “flat white”.
Needless to say, although we were there for longer than 1.5 hrs and never received what we actually ordered, we walked out and we will never return.

I should have been warned when I saw on the MenuMania site that the meals had “mesculin” on top and “confit of duck” is always a warning as it is unobtainable in NZ.
We were seated in the annex which had all the ambience of an industrial cafe – completely bare.
The rest of the cafe is not much better.
The escargots which were on the MenuMania site menu were not on the menu anymore – it seems the MenuMania menu is at least 6 months out of date.
The young waiter assured our gluten free guest that the salmon and squid was gluten free but it came to the table with the squid deep fried in breadcrumbs.
The boss waiter handled this very well and is a real professional.
The salmon was very, very small and the replacement squid boring. (The original squid was of staff cafe quality.)
The food overall is pretty ordinary.
$22 for a bunch of preserved vegetables served as antipasti for 4.
Most of the mains had standard supermarket salad tipped on top so that it covered the whole plate – not only cheap but awful presentation. Probably the worst we have seen.
The tuna was seared perfectly being slightly raw inside but was accompanied with big gobs of mayonnaise based sauce. Not much adventure here.
The salad with the salmon was drowned in a sugar laden vinaigrette
The wines are all 2009. The young waiter believed that this is what customers wanted – new wines.
I guess at least they matched the meal – i.e. disappointing.
Overall a very disappointing experience.

This was the second time we have eaten at this restaurant and I found it exceptional the first time and very good the 2nd time. I am a vegetarian though I have fish occasionally so its harder generally to please me. As I don’t enjoy mushrooms I did not have the vege trio this time as it had changed – it was the best thing I have eaten on the first visit. This time I enjoyed the goats cheese souffle and two side dishes of veges.
My partner who is not a ‘foodie’ said it was ‘the best eating out meal’ he has had. He had a lamb dish.
The service was attentive without being overbearing. Would definitely go back.

I went here for dinner last night. Awesome In All respects. Hop Rocker on tap! Awesome!

All the wait staff were friendly and professional. We were given a complementary canape and had an antipasto to start. It was ok but maybe get the starters instead if you go.
My girl had the tuna, perfectly cooked it was so nice. I had the salmon trio also very good.
We were too full for desert but the looked awesome.
The bill was fair and was less than I thought it would be.
Happy times, well worth checking out.

I have now been to Soltice twice, the first time with a large group and a set menu, the second for my birthday with my
husband and two friends. The food and service was excellent on both occasions.
It’s great to have a first class dining experience so close to home. Highly recommended.

We have been to Solstice on two occasions now and both times we were wowed by the food, service and the ambiance. I have never tasted lamb like this before and all my friends were commenting on how delicious everything was. Keep up the good work Solstice. We have been waiting for you for a long long time.

We had lunch here today,(5)people,
and found it to be excellent in all areas.
The service was very polite,the
surroundings were clean and pleasant, and the food was exceptional!
We chose…Smoked chicken & mushroom fettucinni(to die for!),
smoked chicken & avocado melt, chilli prawn stack, and char-grilled chicken salad.
All very nice.
Will definitely be coming back.
