We invite you to embark on a culinary journey of the Indian Subcontinent and explore the many regional styles of cooking that India has to offer. Our cuisine is based on most popular dishes of five Southern states in India and few dishes of Northern discover for yourself the hidden flavours and aromas of individually prepared dishes from these regions.
We are operating since 3rd July 2009, under the guidance of Chef Janavi Prasad and Chef Hossian Khan; we are pleased to offer an exciting menu which we really hope will elevate your tastebuds to a spiritual level. A talented and well travelled chef with an immense passion for Indian food, Hossain worked in top restaurants and five star Hotels in South India. Our menu is not only a showcase for regional Indian cooking, but also a showcase undoubted skills as chefs. From the subtle spicing of Mugals, Maharajas to latest Nizam influenced North and South Indian grills and from kormas to the fierier South Indian style of cooking using coconut, tamarind and chilli, we offer a menu to cater for all palates. With individual spicing and preparation each of our dishes displays unique taste.
For seafood aficionados we have dishes from coastal Goa and the serene backwaters of Kerala. Our vegetarian and non-vegetarian selection is sourced from all over the Indian Sub-continent; try our Dal Makhani (Punjabi slow cooked lentils) to Chepa Pulusu (Fish Curry from Andhra Pradesh). We do have very popular dishes from which you never tasted in any other restaurant. We are especially thankful to customers who supported and are still supporting

14 Reviews for South Of India
Our first visit here and worth the trip across the city. A good suburban Indian restaurant. Service excellent, fast and efficient. As lunch diners we were impressed by the extensive menu and good prices ranging from cheap to near moderate. Mango lassi was superb but the dearest we ever paid for at any Indian lunch dining venue. Rice and generous naans are included in price. I ordered paneer makhani, my Indian wife ordered chicken vindaloo. Both medium. Although mine was delicious it lacked hotness completely but my wifes dish near blew her socks off, plus many used tissues!! She rated her dish below other similar restaurants in flavour. The Indian male staff, although serious, were professional. Just one who took our order we found rather surly, never spoke and seemed not to appreciate our business. Regardless, a pleasant dining experience that I would highly recommend. We will surely return.

GO here all the time, and am never disappointed. I only ever order the palak paneer which is vegetarian but my partner orders meat dishes and loves them also. The mild is quite spicy which I like as it adds to the authenticity.
Portion size is good and always very hot in temperature.
Naans are huge and are free when you order takeaway which I have not found at any other Indian restaurant yet.
Prices very reasonable too.

Sad to give a review like this in the new year, went to this place took a takeaway, sadly the portion was so little (it was less than a kids meal, and charged me and my friend 18$), the container was filled 3/4 of coleslaw and rest chicken, very unsatisfied with the portion served.

The Curry Club went here for a good night out and a decent curry and I have to admit that they delivered. The service was well above average and handled a few late arrivals with ease and adjusted the order without complaint.
The food was tasty and well presented. The group shared platters to start with which were very good. No complaints about the mains either and a good supply of kingfisher strong to wash it all down.
Well worth the trip across town!

We go here quite a bit to eat and have take away also, although prefer to dine in.
The staff are always very friendly and ensure we have everything we need. The food is always very quick to come out to us and presented well. Everything we have tried on the menu, korma, madras, kadhi…has been lovely and we will keep going until we have tried the whole menu.

This restaurant is of very high quality. I have eaten in some of the best Indian restaurants though-out NZ and this one is right up there with them.
The service was very good and organised, with very polite and attentive staff. The food presentation was also very good. A credit to the chef.
My wife and I started with the platter for two. I recommend this if you want to get a feel for Indian cuisine.
I am also one to try something a little different from the menu and this place offers a large variety. Something for everyone.
I chose the Chicken Kadhai. It was done to perfection and I would recommend it especially if you enjoy coriander in you dishes.
Congratulations South of India, we will be back on a regular basis…. Keep up the great work!

We decide to go to South Of India at NEW BRIGHTON. My first impressions were very good, nice surroundings and pleasant staff who quickly attended us. Great choice of dishes for a Dinner menu and neatly descriptive. We ordered 2 Garlic Prawn, lamb chops, Samosa etc and for mains Chicken Tenali and Sagwalla dish. Food arrived promptly and was very tasty. We all enjoyed our meal and also heard other favorable comments from nearby tables. We look forward to our next visit.

Been there twice now and the best Indian I’ve had in NZ. Even better than Corianders and that’s saying something. Great service too.

Tina Turner would rate this restaurant as “Simply the Best”! We have dined in virtually all the Indian restaurants in Christchurch but I don’t think we will be eating anywhere else but South of India for a long time. The food is superb and the staff second to none. I thought long and hard about writing this review as I thought we should keep the place a secret but that would be selfish! Try it and you will not be disappointed. Did I mention that it is very reasonably priced too?
