Holy Crap Mexigal Sounds like your advocating for the business or perhaps even you work there “$10 monday tuesdays bookings are a must”. We went there and were treated like naughty school kids by the host. She was rude and unhelpful, they have a crazy $17 food minimum when the Nachos (usually the best dish at a mexican restaurant) were only $14.50. I couldnt believe when she said we can do those $14.50 for $17, they werent any bigger she just charged me more for them. When the Nachos arrived I was disappointed, tasteless corn chips, burnt around the edges, tasted just like it had been whipped in the microwave and then slapped under a grill. Very disappointed. Do NOT go to this restaurant.

What can I say!! Last night is the last night I will return to south of the border. The crammed in like “sardines” feel was too much for me and my party of 14 were asked if we could renege on one of the tiny tables we were provided and squish up even further than was possible in this crowded restaurant.
The food was not flash- chicken nachos with about 5 pieces of tiny chicken in it, salsa the consistency of water, my boyfriend who usually eats everything he orders did not want to finish his meal.
The person who served us- the owner I think was rude and even worse when at the end of our night when one of our party went up to pay and get jellybeans for herself, her husband and another couple of the table and was asked by this woman “have you got enough, what are you doing going to a movie”!
I have been to South of the Border about 6-7 times over the last 4 years, first time I went there had a fabulous time and its pretty much gone downhill from there, stupidly we keep going back hoping for improvements! NO
Sorry but I would not recommend this restaurant anymore to anyone.

We had a booking for 13 people at ‘South of the Border’ on Saturday night. By 10pm the staff had opened all the outside doors so the freezing cold would force everyone to leave. We found this terribly rude and if it wasn’t for that we would have quite happily stayed and spent money on drinks. I would not recommend this restaurant to anybody – especially not in the winter. The staff should be making you feel welcome, not trying to get rid of you!

This restaurant is truely disgusting, the waitress (the owner I believe) was extremely rude and yelled accross the table at us what we wanted to order and then when the meals came out they were all wrong and she blamed us saying that it was what we had ordered and just shoved it on our plates. Even though one of the group was allergic and could not eat it. Food was absolutely disgusting and the sour cream was of a runny / yogurty texture instead of the normal consistency of sour cream (it was nothing like the menu said at all for our items of food). She yelled at us asking what we wanted to drink and then never returned with them. She tried to overcharge us and paying for the bill took an extremely long time. The group of 10 of us will NEVER return and I would definitly NOT recommend to anyone.

terrible service and food. as soon as i got to restaurant the waitress came and check my bag for alcohol just opend it without even asking. i had a couple of rtds and lift plus we were planning on drinkin after dinner but she took them off me and put them behind the bar. we were pressured to order even though one of our group had not arrived yet. meals came very quikly all squished onto a small plate. as soon as it looked like we were finihsed the waitreses wanted to clear our plates. it appeared they wanted us out of there asap. they took wine bootles off our table that werent finished and told us to quieten down as we were a large group. even though there was another large group of teenage boys drinking next to us. they also tied to overcharge us. do not reccomend!!! if you want good mexican try the flying burrito brothers!
Chose this restaurant for a girls night out, as we all love Mexican.
We couldn’t believe how crappy the service was, our waitress was so rude and gave the impression that she just could not be bothered being there. Meals were mediocre, but that could have been from the bad taste the waitress left in my mouth.
I would STRONGLY recommend you give this place a miss.

Visiting this restaurant for a special occasion was a big mistake. Booking was not recorded so we were squashed around a small table out the back. July and absolutely NO HEATING. We froze. Room became engulfed with smoke from kitchen. No ventilation, so guess what, they turned the fan on and opened the back door beside us. We absolutely froze. Two meals were burnt and one meal was not what was ordered. Have made a written complaint but no response. Will never ever return.
We went to South of the Border, expecting another fabulous evening, as per usual, the food was fantastic, the service during the meal was fine, but when it came to splitting the bill – which you would assume would be quite an easy task – the entire evening turned into a nightmare!
Everyone had paid for their meal, and corkage, but the last person paying for their meal, expecting to only pay for a meal and starter got stung with a bill for 3 meals plus a starter.
There were receipts to prove all the payments, yet the waitress wasn’t interested in hearing about it.
We wont be returning to South of the Border, which is a true shame.
The service left us with an extremely horrid taste in our mouths.

Went with a large group (19 pax) for a birthday dinner. The night began well with drinks and starters being served quickly, but things soon took a turn for the worse. Our mains took 1.5hrs hours to arrive! As a chef I realise a large group can be a problem, but I find that sort of wait unacceptable, especially when we had booked and surely they must have been prepped for a busy night since there was another largish group in to. The situation was made worse when no apologies or explanations were made. I had chicken nachos that were burnt on the edges and must have had a table spoon of chicken in them at the most. Had we not been a large group the night would have been even worse, because at least we could chat. I would never go back

Have dine at this place several times over the years and believe me…this is the best place for food, value and atmosphere. You must try their $10 nights on every Monday and Tuesday….bookings are a must. Great staff, good music and best of all good value for money!!
