Lovely Restaurant a nice atmosphere. Toilets were clean the staff were friendly – although the waitress did not know what veges were with a meal when we asked (but soon found out) We did not have to wait very long for our meals, which were cooked to perfection and looked great on the plate, good size servings too. Thanks heaps, we will be a repeat customer.

Plus – the meals were prompt, and some were good.
The minus – the service was shocking, the entrance/reception was unwelcoming, the staff dont know how to smile, and some of the meals were crap. We wont be going back, what is it about the NZ hospitality and tourism industry that we accept mediocrity!

the med steak was RARE then we were argued with and only offer $6 off even tho only 1/4 was eating BY THE BIRTHDAY GIRL, and on top only told as ordering the no longer do mains for birthday special freebie.
service s**t stand around talking, dont clear the table! dont offer to top drinks up, we go so sick of waiting after we asked for table to be cleared! that we left with out dessert so they missed out on making more money out of us via dessert and drinks!
wont go back rather just get fish N chips next birthday bash then go to the much mroe friendly railway pub.

Just been to the Greymouth Speights Ale House for the last time

The service was appalling at best.

Waited an hour and a half for our meals which arrived in staggered formation and half of them were cold.

They lost the ticket and then when told how bad the service was, we were given a look that said why would we care.

Will never go back, recommend noone goes there

I tried to dine in and was greeted by a young man who was very unhelpful! We needed a high chair and the one they had was being used and there was abosoultely no effort made to try and put together a make-shift one. The guy was rude when I asked for help again and came across arogant and dismisive. I wrote to the owner in August and have still had no reply. Very poor service and attention indeed!

Having dined in 5 star restaurants here and overseas, I would have to say that my recent experience at this restaurant was exceptional. From the ambience of the restored facility to the service and meal, it was faultless and probably one of the best meals I have ever eaten. I would highly recommend that everyone makes this a ‘must do’ on their visit to Greymouth.
