I have been going to Spice Traders since the Manukau branch opened in 2008 until now 2012, as a regular customer.{So, i have experienced regulary the service of the different managements in action!!}

Here’s the breakdown; since 2008 uptil now ..

Firstly i like the resturant name .. its very different & all cultures can relate to it…its very Indian {Spice} and yet a universal name. The deco is kept funky too.

The ambience is great too ..chilled out & relaxed with a great stimulating view of movement around the place.

About the food … the paneer dosas {paneer serving inside the dosa is generous,as with other curriy serves.

{I have eaten at other Indian resturants in Akld and the serving of curries with say again paneer /potatoe is not up to what one pays for it}.

The staff are friendly and actually like to know how the food was.
The countless times i’ve dined there when Spice Traders opened & now when the old management is back i’ve actually experienced the whole difference in service ,ambience ,taste of food.{Not to mention cleanliness}.

During the middle when there were different owners they wouldn’t wanna answer my questions regarding the menu & would get irritated & the water glasses at times were dirty too.I stopped going for awhile until i really felt like Indian one day that was close by .. went to Spice Traders {prepared to be disappointed} but was delighted to see the changes..

Now , Spice Traders is back to its original way .. the way they started .. great food .. that tastes way better then many Indian resturants {i walk away still able to taste the food ..wanting more}.And thus i keep going back …

In short great food… menu…friendly service … great ambience..deco..cleanliness .. with alot of new changes ..what more can one want ?

Hi,

I have been to your restaurent for almost three times now, I was expecting a good food as you have a quality service but everytime I gave you a chance you let me down. I got uncooked naans and way too sweetened curries. I have been to all other restaurents and hence I liked your service I gave a chance to you. I think it was my last time I had been there.

thank you

I had dinner here with my friend the other day. They had a special on for $10 meal, very cheap for dinner! And the food was very nice. I had butter chicken while my friend had mango chicken, and they were both delicious. The portions were big and filling, and the naan bread was nice as well. The waiters were also friendly. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this place, and I would love to go back!

The food tastes OK, the rice is cheap.Food is expensive. The staff doesn’t seem friendly. I waited 20 minutes for the food and another 10 minutes for a glass of water, most of the staff was just standing around having a chat.

Am a regular visitor to this place with friends after work and we love what the new management have done to the place and its fresh Indian dishes. Haven’t tried the Indo menu because we mainly go here for its Indian meals. For those mild curry fans (very mild) I suggest you try the Kiwi Butter chicken with fresh Naan, It is completely insane!

I ordered what I thought was mild butter chicken and when it came to the table it was too hot for me to eat. Mentioned to the waiter that I thought my dish tasted different than what I usually order and immediately came the apologies and a fresh meal of butter chicken.
Tasted the second dish and it was perfect!
Excellent service fast if your in a hurry and fresh food served hot.
Highly recommend.
Cheers.

I used to go to spice traders very often but now I don’t think I will ever step that place again. I went in for the last time yesterday and ordered from their Indo Chinese menu for Chicken fried rice. It was terrible. I think I could have got a better fried rice from a chinese takeaway for half the price. The service was disastrous. I actually heard one of the waiters pass a rude comment about another customer. I had to wait for a good 15-20 minutes for a glass of water. When the waitress asked how the food was I gave her my honest opinion and all she did was give me a dirty look. I would definitely not recommend this place anymore. We used to actually look forward to going to spice traders before but now it is definitely off my list. Please do there only if you want to pay a high price for sub standard food and terrible service.

I have been a regular for the past 3 months and the service and food is fantastic! I go at least 3 times a week cause i LOVE their butter chicken! I think they’ve either cleaned up their act or changed management since the last review was done… I’d absolutely recommend it :)

We went here on the weekend, and I must say the service was excellent. From the moment we got there, we were well looked after and all the other patrons seemed happy too. They have really improved since the last time we dined there.

Just went there today 1/1/ 2011 and found the service extremely horrible. The staff doest know the right way of talking to the customer as I found them really rude.We have been a regular customer there and didn’t have any problem so far.But now I guess the restaurant is under new ownership.Rice was very sticky & lumpy as they were stale. The chicken smelled rotten & wasn’t cooked properly. There were no spoons or napkins given and when asked one of the girl answered back rudely. The tables were also not clean and the hygiene conditions were poor. Finally we ended up eating nothing as it spoiled our new year and was a great waste of money. The staff really need a good training of customer service.I wont recommend anyone to go there and neither am I going back again.Very disappointing experience.

We went to the restaurant on Tuesday 28/12 around 5pm.Glasses were so dirty and oily with fingerprints everywhere, gave it back to be cleaned and they didn’t wash it at all, just wiped it again with oily towel and the eating cutlery was also oily and dirty. We had to ask for plates and they were not very clean either. Customer services wasn’t great at all compared to my previous visit and its not that they were busy, restaurant was empty that time but still very poor service. Ordered chicken with garlic sauce(Hot),when it was served it was cold plus very tangy and not even mild or medium. Rice was also cold and it was not even half the portion of what we get served in other indian restaurants. Also Sheekh Kebabs salad wasn’t fresh. Tables were dirty, not cleaned plus dirty dishes on tables and dirty spoons on floors. I found spice traders very unhygienic and food was not fresh at all.Would never go there again. Have tried so many indian restaurants but have never been so disappointed before with food and poor hygiene and cleanness.
