We were very disappointed. The pumpkin soup was under seasoned and the vegetarian risotto was a disaster, with some portions under cooked and chalky, and other parts cooked to mush. We realize they specialise in sea food, but if it’s on the menu you expect it to be better than the offering that was presented to us.

My family and i had excellent meals here. My steak was cooked perfect. All of our mains were delicious and cooked perfectly. Service was fast and very efficient. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Food is fairly priced. Had the affogato for dessert, definitely recommended. Basically an all round perfect experience. Squids keep up the great work.
when visiting Whitianga in May 2011 on the suggestion of our B&B owner, after reading the two reviews, we decided to dine at Squid. We were greeted cheerfully as soon as we walked in. Our shared starter of local smoked fish was delicious, the mains jambalaya and fish of the day which was bluenose were tasty, well presented and we felt value for money.

As visitors from across the ditch and seafood lovers, I reckon this place is worth travelling 3000km for! Incredibly fresh seafood. good size meals and my 6 year old who didn’t want anything off the kids menu was allowed to order the scallop risotto at half the adult price but still got a massive serve anyway. Friendly service, reasonable wine list and very reasonably priced $60 NZ ($50 aud) for the three of us including drinks and 2 desserts.Freshest seafood I have ever tasted…we’ll be back!
