From a born and bred kiwi, just had fish and chips from their takeaway menu and they were the WORST we’ve had by a l long shot… Soggy chips, uncooked batter on the fish, tiny portions for the price. Very disappointed.

A very big thumbs up to
station cafe, national park. We travel an hour to come and have coffee at the station cafe and enjoy there lovely food and warmth of the staff. What a great place to view the mountains and on a day like yesterday the weather was perfect. Great to watch the train come in and people come into the cafe for a bite before going on with there travels. A sunday drive to the cafe, you could not get better. We are very lucky to be only an hour away. You will see us again soon at the cafe for sure.

We arrived on the train, only stayed for a bit. But we had the best tasting carrot cake I have ever tasted. Service was very friendly and prompt. I observed, among the crowds and rush, an elderly man who was partly deaf. He was served with the utmost courtesy and kindness. And wow!! I can still taste the carrot cake.
THIS NEXT PART IS NOT PART OF THE REVIEW: I would love to contact the lady who photocopied a copy of the carrot cake recipe for me last Sunday 22 May. I had to jump on the train and I couldn’t thank her properly. I believe her name is Jules. I would love it if she could contact me and I could thank her for her kindness. Terry tmt2@telstra.com

Excellent coffee. And the food was super tasty and the staff were really nice. A great place for tea after a day hiking or skiing. Well worth checking out.

Great location right by the tracks, but unfortunately the whole experience was marred by surly service, a dirty tea cup and tiny portions (the vege fritta in particular, 5 mouthfulls for $12!)for Auckland prices. The big breakfast of bacon, eggs and tomatoes looked good but the poached eggs were served on warm bread not toast. Would not go back.
