I don’t usually write reviews but after eating here I felt I had too. My partner and I got a voucher deal for a three course meal from Summer Sands Lounge and Dinning. This was our worst dinning out experience EVER; and we eat out a lot. The service was absolutely terrible. Drinks were flat, wine was old. We had to wait over 30min for entrees, plates weren’t cleared for another 20min after eating. It took over half an hour for them to bring out replacement drinks and the list goes on. It really was overall an awful experience and I am surprised they are still in business. The food was below average. Really a terrible terrible experience.
I had a deal voucher, 2 for price of one. After reading some very poor reviews, I was very surprised at the quality of the food. We both ordered surf & turf. The steak was perfectly cooked as were the vegetables. The potato cake delicious. The service fine. We both felt the meal was over priced (if we’d paid full price) as the steak was quite small, however apart from that we thoroughly enjoyed our meal.

We visit this place every second weekend. Position is excellent, food is great and priced right. If you are served by Celia or Sharon you won’t be disappointed. Great place for a quite graze or for a quick drink and eat. Highly recommend for a visit
We have just had a lovely evening at Summer Sands – we sat down the back with an open door looking at the greenery rather than out the front, as we where both in a quiet mood so this area suited us.
We where greeted by a very friendly waitress and given the option where we would like to sit.
The other waitress/bar staff was very attentive to service and our needs.
We did not feel rushed over our meal, which was very good. My husband had the Steak which was served medium rare and I had the Lamb Stank, taste was great, as was the vegetables that where cooked just how I like them – just firm to bite.
We finished with desserts and a lovely Hot Chocolate.
Thank you – lovely not to have to cook. We enjoyed our evening.

We were shopping at the mount and wanted to go for lunch. There was a “special” that interested us saying “free hot chps with two drinks. What a mistake. Let me outline for you exactly what went wrong with our “meal”, and that is a far stretch:
-the server was completely bored and disinterested. When I asked her to come back in a minute so I could finish deciding she looked at me with annoyance
-the wine…. just wasn’t wine. It tasted completely watered down, old, with no after-taste of anything. When we told the manager she did not apologize or offer to remove it from the bill and had the nerve to ask us if we were familiar with the particular brand.
-the food was bs. Completely overpriced and looked like it was done in a hurry. I got a toasted sandwich which was ok but it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to make that. The salad was tiny and looked like someone grabbed a handful of greens and threw it on a plate. My friends poached eggs and toast had water all over the plate and neither of us were asked if we wanted real bread or the bland, white crap it was served with. The free chips were the tiniest bit of fries I’ve ever seen served at a restaurant.
-the place doesn’t know if it is a cafe or restaurant which is pathetic since it markets itself as an upper class restaurant. There were three different menus!
If I could give this place zero stars I would. My friend and I come from a food and wine background and that was an absolute joke. No wonder the restaurants surrounding it were completely packed and this one was empty. I would recommend never going near this place.

Good service but I’d be embarrassed serving frozen prepackaged food to people at top prices… Sorry but Summer Sands “sucks”. Luckily we had a voucher deal which saved us a massive financial blow. Even my daughter didn’t finish her meal and she eats EVERYTHING!..

Dined 8 August 2012 – Glad I did not pay full price !!
Deal voucher. After reading previous reviews, we booked.
Single waitstaff was great – possibly a little too efficient as before my fellow diner had finished her main, we were being handed desert menus.
Mussels (6) & chicken nibbles (5) entrees (priced around $15 each) – both appeared to have same type of ‘spicy’ / ‘chillie’ sauce which was average.
Beef Eye Fillet ($36) & Lamb Shank ($26) – when the potato cake is bigger than the steak theres something to worry about ! the body of my fork was longer and then wider than the meat! The jus was fantastic and the saving grace of the meal, the potato cake filled you up and was a nice flavour. Very very average but not worth $36 by a long shot. Lamb Shank was apparently just ok, definitely had better.
Cheesecake & Apple cake for desert ($8.50 each). – Do not bother with the cheesecake ! What a disgusting pile of blandness with a ‘sheet’ of toping that should be thrown away. Apple cake was average, and ok for $8.50.
Won’t be going back in a hurry at all.

Don’t bother going to this place as they do not serve after 7:30, the staff are just interested in going home, we could not get a coffee after dinner, they had cleaned the machine, they are really not open in the evening. Staff were rude and they charge $4 each corkage!!
My Husband and I ate at the restaurant last evening, it was a 3 course meal which was thoroughly enjoyed. The food was cooked and presented well. We had amazing service from the waitresses.
The atmosphere in there was warm with tealight candles going on the tables, everything looked clean and immaculate, and we would certainly recommend this eating place to anyone.

We ate here a couple of times over the Xmas holiday period, after purchasing deal vouchers. I’ve got to say breakfasts are better than lunch or dinner. Nothing to rave about, tends to be very quiet and I wonder if this is because of the meals. Not that fantastic.

This has to be the worst lunch experience I have ever had. We wanted a quiet place to have lunch at The Mount…but shame on us, for there is a reason why this place is so quiet! We sat down after being given menus but there were no staff waiting tables (although there seemed to be at least 4-5 staff on) so we ordered at the counter. We waited 30 minutes and we still had nothing. There was hardly anyone else in the place, yet the staff seem to be doing nothing. We eventually got our protein milkshakes…minus the protein was pretty obvious! We eventually got our “healthy breakfast stack” 40+ minutes later. It was the worst tasting meal I have ever had. The bread wasn’t toasted. The ham was super salty. The salsa wasn’t salsa. I think the best thing was the cut up avocado, but not much talent required there. This was the most disappointing experience of our trip to Mt Maunganui. My recommendation is to never go here and try one of the busier establishments. We will next time
Purchased the Dailydo voucher, two for one. Had lunch there today. Phoned in with my order to have it ready at specific time. Staff were awaiting us, meal perfectly on time. Had great experience here. Staff were lovely, food was great and reasonably priced. Modern,Clean and Spacious cafe. Wouldn’t hesitate to go again.

Dined here for lunch yesterday and it’s no wonder why this place is the quietest in town. The owner’s attitude was totally off and had no consideration for our circumstances. The food was average – my Mum ordered the Tempura Prawn Salad which was a heart-attack on a plate with the amount of oil that was left (Clearly an inexperienced Chef – the oil was not hot enough or food properly drained). The base of the pizza shared was soggy and needed to be in the oven longer (this would have helped making it hot too!). Went up to pay – $7 for about ONE CUP (a brulee bowl of fries). Unbelievable. It’s no wonder this place was dead. Owners need to wake up – fast

I purchased a voucher for buy one mail meal and get one free. We used this last night and were very pleased with the meal and the service. Will definitely recommend to my friends.

great location and lovely waitress but unfortunately the food was totally disappointing, prawns had no flavour whatsoever, caesar salad was dry, no flavour on the chicken, and the seafood pasta was totally un edible, no discount offered when complaining about the food, will definitely not return.

My hungry family and I were in need of a filling and inexpensive lunch after having a soak at the Mount hot pools. Summer Sands was probably one of our first choices as we saw the meals/food were very good value for money. We got the Breakfast-Lunch specials which were a breakfast meal + drink of choice for $10, or the Lunch menu (same deal but larger and more range)for $15. Everything on the menu looked delicious, there was a good range from pumpkin and spinach omelets to kids meals, to simply a good kiwi Big Breakfast.
The service was great – we were seated straight away and got our food and drinks 5-10 minutes after ordering. The waitresses were lovely and very friendly, asking how we were and how our swim was, and so forth.
We all thoroughly enjoyed everything. There wasn’t anything wrong with our meals, the service or the upkeep of the cafe. Both the inside and outside were clean, spacious and had nice tables and chairs. If I were to be fussy, I would say the restrooms were not too amazingly clean, to be honest it is fairly common in a majority of cafes.
I would definitely recommend going to Summer Sands.
