Sushi rice is fine. Some seafood isn’t fresh. Best idea is to go dine with someone gifted sharp eyes or keep on ordering salmon stuff.

The worst Japanese Restaurant experience. Do not go!!!!
The seafood’s not fresh, the service was extremely Bad!!!!!!!
The lady told us can order if not on the train, then gave us a menu, decided what to order then tried to call the staff, A rude Japanese staff told us ”You just wait” then went away chat with someone sounds like his mate or so.
Wtf!!!!!!! Left there waiting over half hour, then another girl came and ordered for us, No smile (like all their family died!!!) No thank you!
And I felt not well after getting home, will never go there again and warn others do not go there only if you want poison food and cold face !!!!!!!!!!!!

Love the sushi – fresh and reasonably priced. Love the concept of just sitting around and being able to choose your food. Edamame was served cold tho, which was weird… but edible nonetheless.

We always enjoy Sushi Train. Great variety of sushi and very yummy. Always a fun experience and friendly staff. It is expensive but you don’t mind paying more for the selection and fun of it. Just wish we could have had sake with lunch as alcohol is only served with dinner.

Great Sushi especially the braised Salmon and Snapper.
As takeout it was better than the service when eating there.
Price was higher but you know it is fresh as you can see them making it and can request anything you want.

Seafood is not fresh.
I went there last month, I’m not sure why as about a year ago I said I’d never go back again after feeling completely unsatisfied with the taste of the sushi.

Anyway, the last time I went, i ordered the Raw Snapper Nigiri, when it arrived the Snapper was Yellow (not clear white as fresh snapper should be) and smelled really fishy, so I brought it to the attention of the waitress who directly looked at the chef. The Chef asked me what was wrong and i asked “is this fresh Snapper?” he took the plate, ate one piece and said “it is ok and it is how it is supposed to be, do you still want it?” He wasn’t convincing, so i declined.

My view is that this place has the potential to do well, yet their product and service has consistently let them down. They need to offer better value for money and a much better product.

Lemme share with you one of my worst experience I have ever encountered at a restaurant.
Last night I went to sushi train with family and friends, while looking forward to this event and to try out their sushi all I got was utter bad service. I cannot believe the level of service that this ‘so-called’ restaurant provided. I understand they were busy at the time, but coming from a service industry myself there were no excuses for the waitress/managers’ attitude.
We were seated down relatively quickly however, everything just went down-hill from there. Upon several requests for utensils I finally got up to do it the traditional way- myself. She disrespectfully screamed “What do you want?!”, on top of this, throughout the whole meal, she glared and stared at me.

The waitress’s bad attitude did not stop there and persisted throughout the night

My experience at sushi train was the worst service experience I’ve ever encountered and hopefully all of those who hear this story think again before choosing to dine at this restaurant due to the utter bad service. If your going there just for the average food then you’ll be fine but will be highly disappointed with the level of service

It is one of the most overprice japanese sushi restaurant i go to.
I first went there 2 years ago, it was gd and qulity of food is gd, right size right price. But dont know since what happen, they increased the price and make the sushi way smaller than before.
the size of the sushi is 1/4 of the one 2 years ago, so small that dont taste any. and the sushi dont taste gd anymore.

for a japanese restaurant that really famous in customer service, this place is really bad.. staff not really helping in the way of service, two female staff just keep talking by themself and laughing, it gives a hard time to get their attention, but about the food, is pretty good, somehow i noticed the food portion gettin smaller from last time i visited here..

i had expected great things from sushi train as i loved it in australia!
the food was very enjoyable but like mentioned below, the customer service was shocking. it was 40 mins to closing time when we arrived but the whole time we were there it was like the staff couldnt wait to get out of there, they werent very helpful, you had to wait for ages to catch the attention of staff as there was nothing much going round on the conveyer belt and they werent very friendly.
they also practically kicked us out at five to nine.
so good food but crap custeromer service, would reccommend for food only.

Our grandchildren really like this place – and it gives them a good healthy feed for treats – especially after they have been to the Tepid Baths. Since we first went there with them a couple of years ago, the zizz seems to have gone. Today, service was slow, the choice of sushi was limited. The waiting staff didn’t seem to take as much interest in the customers as they did the previous time. Food quality is ok – but not startling. Used to do better – but good for kids. Three adults and three children cost just over $100.

Incredible expensive for the service given.
Food quality is not the best for the price they are asking fr; it seems not very fresh and a local version of sushi.

Incredibly disappointed with the sushi. I had come to Sushi Train a couple of years before and had enjoyed the food. The staff were nice and there was at least one english speaker on hand to help when we had a question.

All that seems to have changed when we went last evening. The sushi smelled much too fishy and the tuna must have been frozen, not fresh, because a piece I bit in to was frozen solid. Even some of the rice was undercooked. When I tried to complain the staff stared at me blankly. Finally a manager came up to solve the problem but she was rude and acted as if I was bothering her!

I would never go back to this restaurant. There are other good sushi restaurants in Auckland don’t waste your money here.

Went there with my family. It wasn’t too crowded but the place wasn’t very big. There wasn’t as much variety of sushi going around as I thought there would be. It was quite disappointing to see the same few flavours rotating in front of you and you can get bored of eating there because nothing new comes up. The quality of the sushi wasn’t especially great either it was just O.K. I most likely wouldn’t go back there again.

Went here for dinner, alot of fun picking your dish. But it took awhile for the right stuff to come around, got there when it was full and the staff were busy carrying out orders for those on tables. Food and service (pleasant waiters with drinks etc) was great and would definately go back.Fresh
