After eating at almost all the Indian restaurants in Dunedin I have realized that this is the best Indian restaurant in Dunedin. Food is very tasty and the host is just too friendly.. I feel like I am eating in a restaurant in INDIA and not in New Zealand.

Hands down the best Indian restaurant in Dunedin, upon arrival to the city i tried each of the Indian restaurants and quickly came to the conclusion that this is superior them all. The service is great, the host greets us with a smile and accommodates our every need. The curry and naan are high class and taste authentic and quality. I have begun to eat here on a regular basis and recommend it to all my friends. A must visit for curry fans. Nice atmosphere, incredible service and food that keeps me coming back for more. Delicious every time!

Meals were quite expensive for the amount of meat in them, and the vegetarian one we got was very bland. Also despite what this website says the corkage was NOT free, it was $4, which was pretty annoying. Good service.

Awesome food and excellent service!! Very impressed with the menu selection. Ranked among the best Indian restaurants we have eaten at. Price was very reasonable too and we did not wait long for our meals to arrive either. Relaxed and cosy interior and atmosphere. We will defiantly come back to try other spicy delicacy’s at this restaurant!

This place is great. I come here fortnightly. Good food, big helpings, good service and great BYO nights. I bring 20 people here often and every time it is great. Love the naans and the lassys. I consider it a great part of Dunedin and hope it does well.

I was rather looking forward to my Taj Mahal experience, until I first arrived and needed to use the toilet, and was told to walk down the dark alley outside the restaurant. Service started off well, as they took our orders within 15 minutes of sitting, however good service stopped there. Rice included with the curry was a horrendous over statement, as there wasn’t enough for one serving. To compound my disappointment, i only received 4 small pieces of lamb in my Lamb Rogan Josh. For a price of $16 this is completely unacceptable. Delivery of the meals was mostly on time, apart from my partners whose main arrived as we were finishing ours. This wouldn’t have been a major problem, had they not been clearing the plates, while he was still eating. To finish off the night and pay, I wasn’t allowed to split the corkage with my partner who I shared a bottle of wine with.

Overall a terrible Indian experience, I would advise the manager to re-evaluate his standard of service. If their was an option of no stars out of 5, this is what Taj Mahal deserves.

Had an OK lunch here recently, but when the bill arrived it was more than anticipated. When I brought this up, it was explained that they were changing menus, and although I had ordered off of the cheaper old menu they provided to me, it was expected I would pay the more expensive price from a menu I never saw! They wouldn’t back down and insisted I pay for their error. Unbelievable. Wont be back here….

@ Summit G – Are you suggesting restaurant patrons should assume provided table menus are incorrect and need to be verified by checking a menu posted elsewhere in the restaurant? Absurd. I think you have bigger problems than increasing lamb prices. “We cannot satisfy all customers” is a phrase I have never heard from another restaurateur, and judging from the string of bad reviews below, your customer service skills could use honing. You have lost a repeat customer over your handling and defensiveness of a minor bill discrepancy

I have eaten here several times and will not go back.

I think it is funny that the owner of this restaurant defends himself every time someone writes something bad…Relax, sir, every resturant on here has one or two bad reviews at least, even if they have a five star average.

The food at Taj Mahal is cheaper than the rest of Indian restaurants in Dunedin, but the service and food are not as good.

I once waited around in front to place a take away order for ten minutes and no one emerged from the kitchen so I left…That won’t be in your record book…I promise.

It’s good you take an account of things like that though, so that you might improve.

Awesome food, awesome service, awesome collection of wines and beers. I haven’t seen this kind of collection in another Indian restaurant.
I am sure I will come back and it’s recommended to others as well.

shocking service, was quite looking forward to Indian however when i phoned the girl had no idea what i was talking about. when the order arrive(an hour and a half late) i asked if it would be hot and was assured that it was however was luke warm. not good for chicken. the nan bread was crispy and dry. when i rung up to express how i felt about the entire service the manager just said she was new and that it happens and also was a busy night. he finally offered a new meal when i come in next but to be honest i think i will not go there again.

Hi Anonymus I think you writing this reviews just for a bad impression of my restaurant. According to you, you talk to a girl who was manager, and then you change to a guy who was manger, because there is only one manager here. You confuse urself who was…    More »

Fantastic little indian place, have been here for BYO several times and really enjoyed the food. Great service and well priced. My friend’s curry was too hot for her one night and the chef made her another very quickly without a fuss. Will definitely be back.
