Well the warning signs were probably there with a sign outside saying “chef wanted” but having limited options and dining there once before I thought we’d give it a go?
Bad move.
They were out of all fish which cancelled about 4 options, creamy mushrooms, then as we ordered we find out they ran out of mussels and bread. With a supermarket next door I thought they could of solved that problem?
The service was ok, and the coffee was great, but I felt after a very long wait for brunch the staff could have communicated with us. We arrived at 1:30pm and began eating at 3:10pm with the meals being dripped feed out. I have meet the owner/ manager before and he wasn’t there this Sunday which was a shame as he might of been able to whip his kitchen into shape, every time I turned around the chef was eating and as we left he was outside drinking beer and smoking in his chefs uniform. Not a good look. I guess maybe he’s leaving and just doesn’t care anymore. The food was average and luke warm one we got it. I just wished I stayed home and saved 180 dollars. Won’t be returning there.

We just had a super yummy dinner at Takahe which is also our favourite breakfast place in the weekends. The service is casual which is what we like but if your a bit posh you may be a bit ruffled.
What we like about Takahe is the level of care taken in the food, the tall dark haired chef if awesome and we always lick our plate clean (to the disgust no doubt of those city folk)
Tonight I had the Eye fillet, cooked to perfection and my husband had the chicken..the best parts were the yummy parmesan mashed potatoes and the tempura jalapenos…
The panna cotta for desert was also yum with tropical puree and I asked for Raspberry puree too which was equally delicious. They also have bomb ass coffee.
All round, way satisfied and worth every dollar for a sneaky BYO Tuesday treat, thank you!Coming from a hospitality background myself I am well impressed. Mihi nui!
