Timaru is spoiled for quality Indian restaurants. I have now dined in all three and they are all good, although one of them was some time ago and I have not reviewed it. My experience of Tandoori King this evening was magnificent. I had Lamb Rogan Josh, which was the most superb curry I have eaten in a long time, accompanied by roti bread. The lady doing the waitressing was friendly and helpful and the restaurant, was bright, well presented and appeared to be scrupulously clean.
While the food is more than acceptable at all three of Timaru’s Indian restaurants, Tandoori King gets my vote as the best. It also gets the best mark from me for atmosphere and friendly service. My search is complete – I’ve found my favourite!

I have been to many Indian restaurants, and the food here is some of the best I’ve ever had! Everything is delicious! Small cozy interior with nicely set tables. The only complaint I have is that sometimes the service is lacking… there appears to be one waitress (besides the lady who I believe to be the owner, who is friendly) that seems disinterested and not particularly friendly or engaging. Because of this fact, I often opt for getting take out, rather than sitting in the restaurant to eat.
If the waitress/service situation changes, I will update this review… but one fact remains – the food is fantastic!
