Summer is now under way, and the Olive Garden out the back at Cafe Tasca in Dominion Rd is again beckoning. With shells underfoot, protected lean-to deck and large umbrellas, its ambience is impossible to resist.
Christmas and balmy evenings are just around the corner, making Tasca perfect for get-togethers and group bookings – the “Continuous Tapas” choice is an excellent way to spend a fun, casual evening with friends and family.

My mum said these guys were good so we decided to give them a go.
Waste of money..
My partner had Whole Baby Snapper that had way too much salt, it was inediable.
I had the Linguini al Mariscos, it was boring and tasteless.
Ended up going home and cooking my partner a second dinner.
Will not be going back EVER.
So, I went with a group of friends to Tasca to celebrate my birthday. I had booked the table in the deck area in the Olive grove, just in case of rain. It was a perfect evening with great staff (nothing was a problem for them) and food. They even had mosquito repellent on hand for the likes of me who attract mozzies at 100m!
I have been back since for a glass of wine on a sunny evening with a friend, what bliss
I highly recommend Tasca Dominion Rd
We had some tapas as starters, the Dips Duo (tzatziki and hummus with hot Turkish bread) and Pan con Tomate (Spanish grilled tomato bread) were particularly good.
Three of us had a selection of tapas for mains – Panfried Chorizo Sausage (with garlic fried bread and mushrooms), Dolma (bell pepper stuffed with rice, onion, herbs, currants & pinenuts, with tzatziki), Calamares (pan fried with sea salt and parsley, with aioli and lemon) and Chilli Prawns were all very good. The other 3 had individual dishes – the Greek meat balls (on sautéed Mediterranean vegetables, with a crushed tomato &
oregano sauce and a dollop of Greek yoghurt) were very good and the Spatchcock Chicken Algarve (with sautéed potatoes and fresh tomato and black olive salad) was excellent.
Coffee, and tea (a good selection of both and also hot chocolate) were accompanied with some desserts – the affogato (ice cream drowned with espresso coffee & liqueur (several choices)) was excellent and the churros (spanish donuts with hot melted chocolate sauce) would have done for 2 if 1 of us hadn’t been greedy! The double chocolate brownie cake was very good and individual Turkish delight were a nice touch for 2 of us who were already full!
The (Spanish and American) waitresses were efficient and pleasant.
The total bill was $260 for the 6 of us, including 2 beers but no wine – we brought our own ($5 corkage).
Overall, a very pleasant experience. (No, I’m not related to the owners or staff!)

When I politely complained to the waitress about the wait I was given a bunch of excuses and then IDed for my order of sangria. The food was brought out less than 5 minutes later (presumably to make up for ignoring us) My partner’s meal was wonderful but mine was severely overcooked. The mussels were CRUNCHY and hard. The seafood was inedible. I did not complain because management had already made it clear that customer service was not their priority (both owners ignored us many times despite repeated attempts to gain eye contact). I will certainly not return to this restaurant. What a joke.

We began by ordering a glass of wine. The waitress brought our beverages however 10 minutes later the manager decides to approach and ID my partner solely and as she did not bring her handbag, the restaurant revokes her glass of wine. The manager argued with us and did not apologize. She disrespected my partner and myself who we are a middle aged professional couple. Other customers sat and watched in embarrassment as the manager was left without any excuses and without apology. Fair enough the manager did their duty to ID customers, but this really went too far for a small restaurant with few customers at the time. There was no drive to a humble hospitable approach and a ethical practice to enlighten first time guests to a hopeful return. We left without having our meals served. We recommend no body to visit Tasca Mount Eden
