Great family restaurant with fantastic food and the friendliest of staff. We’ve been going here for getting on for 20 years and have sampled many great Asian restaurants throughout the world (largely UK, NZ, Malaysia, Vietnam and Thailand… we have family in these countries). We’re a family of 4 and our kids have grown up loving this place too.
Granted you can find better locations and possibly atmosphere in Wellington city, but those places all lack the personal touch and the reception you get in a “local” restaurant. If you’re after fantastic food and like getting to know charming people (like Nina and Michael who run the place), you too might become regulars.

We love Taste of Malaysia. We have been going there most weeks for the last 10 years. The food is delicious, the staff friendly and the service is excellent. We highly recommend this restaurant.

While the food is great, be very wary when you book for a group.
Recently we booked a table for 20 ($25 set menu)including two children at half price and on the night only 14 turned up including the two kids. We agreed with the hostess that we should pay for 16 all up and this included the kids at $12.50 each. The last member of our group could not leave until they paid for a 17th person which was not what was agreed.
Our attempt to recover the additional $25 was unsuccessful. I think the hostess needs to be mindful of what $25 is worth to her business as we will not be returning.

Its always a Great Night Out when we dine at the Taste Of Malaysia Restaurant in Lower Hutt. The Malaysian food there is always “simply delicious!!!” The ambience there is always great, especially from the manageress there who we simply know as “NA”……..she always make us feel so welcomed with her great charm and friendliness!!! And their food service is “fast” too!! My favourite food there is the “Curry Laksa”…….I always order it…….its so yummy!!! Another favourite is the “Mee Goreng”……always so tasty with just enough spice added!!! And theres the Curry Chicken Potato Dish…..simply “Out Of This World”!!!
I will have no hesitation in recommending the Taste of Malaysia Restaurant to everyone who enjoy cooked home-styled Malaysian Food. Cos thats the way its Best Eaten!!! Lovely!!!

very excellent food, my family like to go there very often, also my children like to see the lady boss who named Nina, she is lovely and friendly always, the food they like is Roti dipped with Chicken curry sauce, they think it is very yummy. my husband likes their Mee Goreng which he thinks it is best noodle dish he ever had in Wellington. I like the Thai salad dishes, they are very tasty. Go ahead, ignore some mean people. We support you all the times!

My experience in Taste Of Malaysia has been very poor, to my understanding there was Three partners in the business and two of them have left the business and sold their shares. One of them was also the head Chef, to my understanding thats why the food taste so bad at the moment. They have a Thai Chef from Thailand that cant even cook their own traditional dishes let alone trying to prepare traditional Malaysian dishes. This place was great before but now I would now even go there.
We had a good, tasty meal with great service. Nothing outstanding, but good value for money when using the Entertainment Book discount (25%).

Relaxed and friendly atmosphere with a huge selection of Malaysian dishes. Best to eat-in rather then take-away. Not a lot of choice for fussy children but a lot of mild dishes available. I recommend the Lamb and Potato curry!
