We used to dine here regularly but hadn’t been in about 2.5years due to having a child. We decided to go for lunch today (with small child in tow) and had yet another fantastic dining experience. The food, coffee and service is consistently of a high standard – we’ve never experienced a single off day – and they were very flexible and accommodating to our three year old (not really their target audience) by offering to plate her a half potion of anything on the menu. The menu steps a little outside the mainstream lunch/brunch offerings as well, which makes a refreshing change. We will be back!

We have been to Taste several times over the last few years, and are always really impressed with the experience. It is definitely our favourite restaurant, and being local makes it even better. The service is absolutely flawless – friendly and attentive without being obtrusive. The food is delicious. The ambience and decor is relaxed yet classy. if I had one recommendation it would be to dim the lighting a fraction, to create a more private setting. Would thoroughly recommend this restaurant to those wanting a more ‘special’ dining experience.
We’d heard great things about Taste, so tried it one Saturday morning for brunch. We weren’t disappointed. Service was impeccable and the food absolutely delicious.
Turning up with 3 children in towto what’s quite a stylish place didn’t cause a ripple – we were offered half portions, and in the end a large breakfast was plated between two beautifully. Ingredients fresh, high quality and presentation excellent. Coffee fantastic.
Pricewise, it’s up there certainly. And they could have done with making the blue cheese on toast breakfast a bit more substantial – but it’s quality through and through.

Fantastic.
My husband and I went for a quiet dinner having heard good things about this suburban restaurant.
We found a small restaurant that has been cleverly made to feel light and spacious by the generous use of large mirrors, warm neutral colours and good lighting.
We found the service excellent, arguably the best we’ve had in Wellington. Discreet, efficient, thoughtful, flexible, knowledgeable – overhearing me muse over the wine I would like but would not be able to drink a whole glass of since I was driving, they offered to pour me a half glass; water glasses were kept full at all times in a very discreet manner; and the dessert we decided to share was thoughtfully split onto two plates for us without us asking. We were invited to relax and stay as long as we liked and consulted on the length of time we would like between courses. The atmosphere was relaxed but the service was wonderfully attentive without being intrusive.
The food was simple and elegant. Each dish we enjoyed was well-presented and considered, and just the right amount. The star dish for us was the seared scallop entree – they were cooked to perfection and served in the most sublime creamy curry sauce.
We loved our experience there and will definitely be back sooner rather than later.

I have eaten here twice. Lovely spot and easy parking. Whilst food and wine selection is good, the real let down in one of the owners manner in interacting with customers. Just not warm.
Also note: For Christmas I purchased a voucher as a gift for a family member and was disappointed to be told they had less than 3 months to use the voucher (due to closed hours over Christmas) and owner was unwilling to extend the date on the voucher. Left a sour taste.
Bought 1 voucher instead of 2. Bought another for Boulcott St Bistro who I must say present their vouchers more professionally and provide a more generous time period to use the voucher.

It never ceases to amaze me. I have eaten at this restaurant 5 times now over a period of a few years, and I am still impressed with the whole experience of eating here. It is always very busy. I love the little sandwiches served at the beginning and the service is great. The menu is simple but stylish and not over the top with a whole swag of dishes. I have never left food on my plate because it is always is a joy to eat without feeling overly full. Friendly welcoming staff. It does pays to book because it is so popular..just enjoy.

Always a good experience!
Taste claims to be a “suburban dining room” which is an accurate description. It has a short menu, all of which is beautifully presented and well made.
Service is absolutely impeccable. The wine list is interesting and varied.
It’s a good place for a couple or a small group. Best to call ahead as it is often full.
