I recently posted a negative review of Thai Crom, based on my experience on two visits when restaurant staff told me a dish advertised as a special was cheaper than normal but also smaller than normal. Owner/manager Neville responded, offering an apology and assuring me that I had been misinformed by his staff and he would take steps to ensure his staff were aware in future that a dish on special is exactly the same as usual in every respect except for the price. I subsequently removed my review, not wishing to do any harm to Thai Crom for something which was evidently a misunderstanding between management and staff. This evening I returned to Thai Crom with an open mind.
I ordered green curry chicken with steamed rice. The meal was served quite promptly, in attractive manner and by a pleasant waitress. The meal was tasty, quite sufficient in quantity and contained a good amount of chicken and fresh vegetables. The atmosphere was pleasant, with background music at low enough volume to be unobtrusive.
My only slight quibble was with the price – $23.00, being $20.50 plus $2.50 extra for the serving of rice. Top class Thai restaurants in larger centres typically charge $18.00 to $19.00 (with rice included), for the same selection.
However I don’t mind paying for good food and I enjoyed this. I didn’t have a chance to put Neville’s assurance about specials to the test, but I accept his word.

Fantastic place to eat Thai, I go there probably once a fortnight. Their $10 lunches are awesome and the food and service is GREAT. Atmosphere is wonderful and the restaurant is clean and inviting. There is area outside to sit and enjoy the Central Otago scenery

We had lunch at the Thai Crom Restaurant in Cromwell while we were holidaying in Queenstown last week.
I ordered the Paneng Chicken Curry on Rice which was really beautiful and flavoursome.
My wife tried Pad Thai Chicken meal which was very tasty and enjoyable .
The service was excellent. We were well looked after by a very friendly Thai waitress who was also the owner of the restaurant.
It wasn’t very busy for lunch there today, so our meal arrived very quickly.
The restaurant was nicely decorated with attractive Thai wall features and ornaments.
Overall it was nice lunch at a reasonable price in a a very pleasant Thai Restaurant.
We would love to return to the Thai Crom Restaurant again the next time we are in Cromwell!!

We have visited New Zealand from our home in Des Moines, Iowa many times. Fortunately on our first visit years ago we discovered the wonderful Thai Crom restaurant. We have since made it a point to stop in Cromwell on each trip to enjoy the fabulous Thai food. Over these years the restaurant has always been consistent in its quality and assortment of delicious Thai food. We have come to know and visit with the owners and they are delightful people. We have also talked with many New Zealanders in the area and they all love Thai Crom. We are planning our next trip for January 2010 and will have several more great meals at Thai Crom. If you are in New Zealand or visit there do not miss this excellent restaurant
