The worst Thai food we’ve eaten ! Stopped in on a Thursday night to order takeaway. Thought that the prices were steep and surprised their menu items cost more than they would in Auckland, however figured this place must be good. We placed our order with a staff member who struggled with English and the food took about 20 minutes which we waited for patiently. We then drove straight to our hotel, just a few minutes from the restaurant. The food was cold. Our chicken with vegetables and cashew nuts contained no cashew nuts at all. The spring rolls had almost nothing in them and just tasted foul.

We ended up throwing the food out. Avoid this place like salmonella !

I understand that big groups are difficult to cater for but the service at Thai orchard was not on.
The waitresses were nice and obliging but having the time difference between meal number one and meal number three at over 30 minutes is really unacceptable. What is the point in going to a restaurant to eat with others when they end up watching you eat while they wait for there meals.
When arriving to pay the manager “ssshhh”ed us very loudly then demanded the incorrect money for meals , all without any apologies for the service

The meals were good but the service really needs to be improved if they want to keep seeing returning customers there.

20 minutes or less after we put in our orders for a Mixed Entree and a chicken Pad Thai, we were served. The mixed entrees were comprised of 2 spring rolls, 2 Thai Orchid toasts, a couple ribs, and I asked for curry puff instead of the fish cakes, and they obliged.

It was ALL so yummy! And for the price, you get a HUGE plate of pad Thai! Enough to share, which we did. Ive had it before, from another restaurant, and did not like it at all. But this one was so yummy! If my partner had liked chili, I would have ordered it spicy, personally.

The downside is the room is so small, everyone was talking louder and louder, which was annoying. And they didn’t seem to have any AirCon or any windows open, so I got hotter as the night wore on.

All and all, we were satisfied with our meal and the attention from staff.

Would love to give a 0/5 but that’s not an option!

I ate with a larger group (10ppl) and can truly say that I didn’t enjoy a single thing in the restaurant.
Normally I am very good about finding the “silver lining”
but just can’t at Thai Orchid.

When I first arrived I was told to go upstairs by what looked like the chef, and was then helped by friends to get my own water and wine glass off a shelf.

We had a laugh that the serviettes on the table were actually a kitchen paper towel folded in half, and that they had turned the tv on for us – to a Disney channel musical!

About 30mins in we were given menus, a sheet of paper and a pen. We were told to write our name and the number of what we would like to order.

When our food came it was the typical one at a time customary at Thai restaurants, but one thing we noticed was that the noodles were not very good, the chicken tasted like it had been microwave burnt, and the “special sauce” was a store bought sweet chili thai sauce.

My crispy prawns were soaked in the sauce and very soggy.

The plates were then cleared away and the mobile eftpos brought out, without any communication.
We were then looked at, stood beside and finally had the table completely cleared while we were still talking and trying to finish our drinks.

The message “time to leave” was clear.

The food, atmosphere and service were all just horrid and the 10 of us will not be back.
Would not recommend – there’s many other better restaurants on the street.

We ate there tonight, the place seemed old and tired, stained table cloths and chipped crockery. the staff whilst pleasant enough seemed unsure about the menu and how to serve things.

The food was tasty but overcooked rice and undercooked veg, pasta instead of noodles (overcooked and a school dinner lady presentation made our minds up not to pay a return visit.

Main and starter for 2 with one drink each $80 Dec 2011

Their takeaway green curry is so good and everything else i have tried. I like it very spicey so always get the lemon chicken salad, never disapoints me!

Very iffy restaurant.
I think they need to focus on the brothel business upstairs, rather than cooking food. Check out the dodgy characters hanging out in reception… hmmm I would give it a miss! Try At Tonys japanese just down the road!

one star rating undeserved does not warrant a star it was that awful!!!!!!!
AND….attitude of one staff member was very rude!! The food for the amount of people was not enough..too many carrots/cabbage and onions. Not any vegetarian selection, hardly any meat in the dishes and we had to ask for rice, which was cold. The dessert was one or should I say half a scoop of store bought ice-cream.For a banquet absolutely appalling considering the price of $35 a head.Would not and will advise people to avoid this place.

None of the staff appeared to want to be there. The smell of the dining area was tired and musty. There was constant movement from the kitchen through the dining area of staff carrying plastic bags of takeaways.
The prices were almost reasonable but spoilt by the old ‘trick’ of charging extra for the rice which accompanies most dishes.
Don’t buy wine by the glass because you will feel ripped off by the very very small amount in the glass.
The green chicken curry was almost ok, but spoilt by being too thin and with very little actual chicken.
I will never go there again.

We ordered a meal to be delivered via the website and it arrived within an hour of placing the order.
But the food was of really poor quality. The spring rolls were burnt and the spare ribs were dry and tough, so much so that they were not even eaten. They also failed to deliver two of our appetizers which arrived about forty minutes after the original delivery.
Also the prawn dish had only eight prawns in it. We spent over $100 on our order and it was so not worth it. All very bland and cooked poorly. Would never order from there again or recommend to anyone.

find a $20 dinner voucher and went with my friends for a meal on Tuesday. The food was delicious and the service is fantastic, food served large portion and so fresh and tasty, full of flavours as Thai food is popular for. A group of 30 of us went their function room for my friends birthday and they even let our friend dine for free on their birthday.

will go back again. highly recommend to my friends

thank you Thai orchid. we had a good time.

Maybe we were lucky after reading the other reviews but a group of us went in last weekend for their $10 lunch special and we all had really enjoyable food that came out very quick. Service wasn’t great tho..

We didn’t enjoy our meal at this restaurant. The fish cakes were tasteless and accompanied by a cheap sweet chilli sauce.

The chicken in the main meal was not stir fried but deep fried and dry.

The rice was over cooked and mushy. Worse, even though only one of us ordered rice we were charged for 2 serves at $2 each. When most restaurants provide the rice for free this price was cheeky especially when the meals were priced above average for Thai food.

We won’t be going back.

I ordered a delivery through their website around 8pm, and waited an hour on my starving stomach. I couldn’t wait any longer, so called them to ask how much longer I need to wait. I was expecting for an answer that they’re on they’re way, but unbelievably, they said they haven’t received my order !!! How could I expect that answer as I had an email confirming on my order !! They took my order through that call, and promised they will deliver it within 30 minutes. They came just after 30 minutes, and I handed a copy of the email that shows the time of when my order was taken. They only gave me $2 discount for waiting nearly 2 hours, starving, and I am NOT happy with their service at all !! When the deliverer left, it was 10pm. I was shaking on hunger, but was over too hungry, I could barley eat half. Anyway, my Vegetarian Egg Noodles were not seasoned. Absolutely non. I will NOT, NEVER, order through them again.
