Wow! Great setting terrific people and the food is OMG good. We had 3 pork bellies and a chicken souvalaki. The pork melted in our mouths with a good serving of crackling. The chicken was very moist and juicy and all our meals were very generous in their size. The night was topped off with the lightest, most moist delicous sticky date pudding. Thank you, when we come back from oz again you will be our first dinner stop. (sorry about the spelling but am writing this at 5:30am on the way to the airport in the back of the car)

Actually – we have been there three times over the last 3 months. First time the platters have been great – fresh and tasty (say 4 stars) and the beer was great! The second time the platters have been o.k. but the beer was still great – and the last time the food was rather low standard – the seafood platter felt rather under-cooked – and the sausages on the “thirsty platter” have been the worst we ever got served in any Kiwi restaurant (tasted like a mixture out of flour and grease …). The beer tasted stale as well.
Conclusion – it is possible to have a good experience (see our first visit), but the quality seems to be inconsistent (and, if our data form a trend, deteriorating) – hence only 2 stars.

Good quality food and friendly service. We have eaten there twice recently and both times the food was great.
We will be back…. which should say it all!

Essentially good solid food, though service can be a bit slow.
Dessert a little skimpy on what we’re used to in NZ.

Great food at a good price. Ignore the negative comment below. Excellent movie meal deal on Mondays and Tuesdays, and pub quiz is always very professionally run.

I have been to the Thirsty Marriner on a number of occasions and have always found the food and service to be excellent. Having read the other review I know that the coke that they sell is in the small bottles and is 2 x glasses worth so $6.50 is really not too bad! I have attended the Quiz nights on a Wednesday and have had lots of fun and was impressed by the professionalism of how it was all run. We live in Redwood so this Bar is not close for us to go to but we do make the effort especially on a Monday or Tuesday night when you can get the movie deal for $25 which includes a beer or wine, a main course and a ticket to the movies which is just across the road….wonderful also to have the beach across the road to walk off the yummy desserts!!! We will definatley be back. A+

The steak sandwiches we ordered were OK (nothing exciting) but the fries served with them were overcooked. It was fairly empty so the wait for our meals was not long which was good. We were however very disappointed when we came to pay. We had visited on a public holiday of which I know that some places charge a surcharge and some do not. I figured this place did not as they did not have it displayed anywhere that this would be the case. We also were charged $6.50 for a glass of coke plus the surcharge making it $7.50 for a coke of which seems absolutely ridiculous!! I would not recommend this place to anyone.
