I have had two great experiences at Tides – one for lunch and one for dinner. Both times the service was fantastic – very friendly and attentive staff. The food was great and the portion sizes are reasonable. For lunch I had the open chicken sandwich – which was delicious. However, I would have to say I prefer this place for dinner than for lunch as I think the dinner food is better quality. For dinner, I had two entrees which they were more than happy to do as dinner items. I had their pate which was lovely, and their tomato soup (soup of the day) which was rich and tangy. For dessert – their apple and rhubarb crumble was delicious. However, my mum had the crème brûlée and thought they had used bought custard in it as it was not quite how it was supposed to be. This restaurant is suitable for most ocassions – although it is more of a casual restaurant and not terribly exciting in decor or ambience. Overall, a good experience and would go back there to try out some other things on the menu.

Thanks for the positive review. I can assure you that we do not buy ready made custard. We are dinosaur chefs and make virtually eveything on the premises – only free range eggs are used in our brulees and creme anglaise. We are a cafe by day and restaurant by…    More »

We have been a few times since the restaurant opened several years ago and have been so impressed every time. The food is fantastic (sometimes takes a while to get it but as long as you know that, it is fine). The waiters/waitresses are always fantastic and nothing is any bother. A group of 8 of us came last night, the restaurant was full but the service was great as usual, our waiter was patient, informative and very humourous. Excellent menu and great specials. Definitely highly recommended.

It’s nice to have something that you can call your own. This place has been part of the Waiake beachfront for over 20 years. It was originally known as Art Ducko and about 3 years ago, became known as Tides when new owners came on board. We come here about two, sometimes three times a year.
Uncomplicated, yet tasty and wholesome menu. Good choice of pasta, meat and seafood dishes. The decor is basic, but does it matter when you’ve got good company and an amazing outlook onto the beach?
Seriously, I’ve never had a bad dish here. The food is always fresh and the waiting staff don’t hover around you like vultures. The portions are very generous, which doesn’t bode well for dessert, as I’m always full!
For people wanting something that provides good value for money, Tides is well worth a visit.

Hi
Heared great things about this restaurant but sadly disappointed. Flavours were ok, but some odd combinations of food; with the presentation lacking a bit of finesse. Place looks a bit tired, and could benefit from bi fold doors to open onto pavement and make use of the site.
On a positive note – service was great, nice and friendly:)

I have recently celebrated a birthday at Tides waiake with 30 + friends. The evening was a great success and all that attended enjoyed the meal and service immensely.
I can and will highly recommend Steve and his team for quality of food, experience and service.
Good luck to the restaurant in the future
