Visited last Saturday and found the food generally OK but 3 small mushrooms with salad leaves is hardly a main course size. The service was very slow and orders are not placed in an arrival order. We saw 4 tables of food come out, from the kitchen, to people who had arrived after us before ours was finally served. 45 minutes is a long time to have to wait. When I pointed this out on paying they were not very interested.

To the Reader and in response to Lynn’s comments: Lynn’s table was told at the time of ordering that there was a delay on food because there was a number of orders up already in the kitchen; this was it due to it being a weekend and in the school holidays. My…    More »

I had a terrible experience at Traffic on 4/12/2011. My partner and I stopped on Sunday afternoon. Admittedly it was 4pm however when we asked staff if they were closing, they were happy to accommodate our request for a pizza, drinks and a slice of cake from the cabinet which we paid for on ordering.
Firstly there was no one else in the bar/cafe but the staff (4 or 5 working out the front) were too busy wanting to get closed and finish work that they only brought over one of the drinks we had ordered. Therefore my partner was sitting there for some time waiting for his drink and ended up having to ask for his drink.
I ordered a coffee this was absolutely disgusting – really weak and way too milky.
The pizza – a margherita was doughy and instead of basil as one of the toppings listed on the menu, they put basil pesto on the pizza. Luckily neither of us have any nut allergies as pesto is full of nuts!
I asked the staff if the cake would be coming as I noticed all food had been removed from the cabinet and they were discussing who was taking what was left home.
I wish we hadn’t paid for the cake as in the end it was not a comfortable environment with cleaning process taking place around us and chairs being put up on tables I didn’t want to stay to finish the pizza let alone eat the cake.
Really disappointed by crap service, and food that was not what we expected. Won’t be visiting again.

To the Reader: we have sent all of our contact details to R2D2 some 10 days ago , we said we wanted to find out more detail and put right the experience they had, and to date have had no response. All of us at Traffic are focussed on giving our customers the best…    More »

Stopped here for a late lunch after a day of shopping. The waitress was very friendly and hospitable. Took a while for the food to arrive purely because it was so popular. Food was served hot and was delicious!

Have been here often, mostly for coffee and a snack during shopping expeditions. There is a good selection, from a variety of menus and the organic coffee is good. They are child friendly with a play area(handy when the grand children are in tow).
We decided to try their brunch menu. There were about eight items to choose from, all but one featured hollandaise sauce. There were no fruit or cereal options. We both ordered the portobello mushrooms with black pudding, bacon and tomatoes served on toasted bread. The food arrived nicely plated, along with the lattes we ordered to have while waiting for the food. It was just as well really, because the glasses were too hot too handle until we had eaten. I thought the mushrooms were a little tough and my husband found the black pudding a little salty, small things that didn’t overly detract from a cruisy start to the day.
PS Went back later in the day keen for an iced tea to cool down… to no avail. Even bottled cold tea drinks would be a nice addition to their selection.

Just to let you know at the time there were about 18 choices on the brunch menu (all day brunch/lunch) with additional daily specials. The mushrooms are couriered direct to us from Parkvale in the Wairarapa and our smallgoods are from Harringtons and the Waikanae…    More »

Have been to this Cafe for alot over since they opend. Nice place, but have to say do not go there as much now as prices are abit high and the food not as much variety as they once had. Bring back the wedges with bacon and sour cream, better salads like they used to have with strawberrys. Coffee not as good as earlier, seems to have had alot of staff changes to. would definately still go, but not as often.

Thank God for a up-beat bar/cafe in Otaki!

Great chefs, fresh food and a big friendly welcome from Front of House owners Mark & Sam Burgess.

Fantastic variety of live and local music on Friday nights.

City bar vibe in a rural town! You’ve got to love it!

I like all the little touches – like the complimentary minties on the counter, the stack of sun hats & sunscreen for outside diners, and the bright breezy atmosphere and decor. The coffee was not bad, the service good, I am yet to try the food, but will be back next time I am passing through. A lovely cafe!
