Allan Scott first came to Marlborough in 1973 to plant some of the original grapes in Marlborough. Two years later he planted the family’s first vineyards supplying grapes to Marlborough’s emerging wine industry and established their own winery in 1990 producing a full range of wines especially suited to Marlborough’s gravelly soil and sunny climate.
The restaurant, “Twelve Trees”, named after the 75 year old trees that surround the property, has become one of the most popular lunchtime venues in Marlborough attracting both locals and visitors alike. In summer the shaded leafy courtyard, with its fountains and elegant topiary, provides a calm and cool oasis for guests while in winter the cosy interior and open fire creates a warm welcome. Add to this the great seasonal menu featuring fresh Marlborough produce and the Scotts’ famous wines and it is an unbeatable combination.
Allan Scott Wines still remains in family ownership. Of immense pride to Allan and Cathy is the fact that the whole family is involved in the business. Son Josh is winemaker, younger daughter Sara is the viticulturist, while Victoria, the Scott’s elder daughter looks after the marketing.

Although we didn’t have a reservation we were shown to the only available table by the doorway but that didn’t make our experience uncomfortable, quite the opposite as it enabled us to watch what was going on inside and out. We were amazed at the professionalism of the staff who were also thoughtful and entertaining to talk to. The food was beautiful, melt in your mouth positively Delicious. We just loved it and stayed there for a quite a while. Lovely people, lovely place and lovely food. My favourite so far. Thankyou
