Went here with my partner for a meal as heard from friends that the place was fantastic and we weren’t disappointed, very nice set up and they had a two piece band playing in the background so perfect atmosphere, my partner was conflicted as to what to drink as it’s a Speights bar and not his thing, the bar manager actally came to our table and offered a sample of there very own Black Sheep beer which tasted great, was very happy with the meals and stuck around for a couple more drinks after as it was such a nice set up, very good staff and prices were good.

After hearing mixed reviews from friends and family thought we’d head here and use the entertainment card discount during the week.

Very attentive service, we shared the cob garlic loaf for entree which was freshly baked – lovely, warm and soft. I had the pork belly for a main, my partner had a steak. Both meals were fantastic only slight critiscm was the spinach served with the pork belly was quite bitter. All in all meals were still top notch and brought out quickly

Would definitely recommend

We went to this restaurant for my Mothers birthday dinner. We booked a table for 5.30pm for 14 people including three kids. Two of us adults turned up a bit late just before 6pm to work commitments. We were approached and read the specials of the night just after arrival at 5.30pm however noone came to take any drinks orders or meal orders until we approcahed them to advise we were hungry at 6.20pm. Our orders were taken but by 6.50 my Mother had to approach the waitress and ask that the kids meals come out asap as they were hungry (they had been waiting over an hour at this point). It was then after 7pm and still no kids meals so my Mother approached the bar tender who apologised and went straight to the kitchen to request the kids meals at least. Five mins later the waitress came over to apologise and say that one of the dockets with a childs meal had been “lost” and so they were making this meal now. Slowly the meals started to come out and by 7.30 we all had our meals except for me. I was then told that my meal was being made and would be bought out asap, apparently this docket had also gotten lost. The meals themselves were very small for the price and one of the burger buns was so stale that it was crunchy (not from being grilled). The potatoes on some meals were hard as well.

The service we received from the barman and the waitress was wonderful. They are to be commended, however the manager on duty was another matter. Upon paying we relayed our experience and instead of the expected apology we were told that “We got very busy tonight you know” We responded to advise that we had booked and were there before anyone else in the restaurant. The manager then told us that due to some diners in our group arriving late he had to re – explain the specials and this had slowed down their service. Once again we reminded him that we had booked and that we were a large table, at no time did we receive an apology of any sorts. My mother then advised that she would not be coming back. The manager seemed totally taken aback but instead of offering an apology, he offered excuses and tried to put the blame back on us.

Some advice from one business owner/manager to another. If you have an upset customer try to see it from their perspective, admit that there is/was an issue and take their feedback. Most Importantly Apologise!!!!

Woohoo went to Two Black Sheep for dinner last night and tried the new menu.
Restaurant was fairly busy and my order was taken when I was ready. I ordered the garlic Cobb loaf and to my delight I was asked if I wanted this prior to my main or along with it (nice touch). I chose to have this with my main which was to be the reddened chicken.
When my meal came out it looked fantastic and the sauce that went along with the chicken gave it that special touch of class.
The Cobb loaf was amazing and so was the chicken, it was cooked to perfection and the vegetables (cauli, broccoli & carrots) were arranged beautifully on my plate. The chicken was placed on a bed of mash which was creamy and along with the sauce gave my taste buds a great work out.
I would definitely recommend the new chicken recipe.
Overall it was another awesome dining experience even tho there were only two front of house staff and the restaurant was busy I still got the A1 service (well done guys).
I will definitely be back to dine again, good food, awesome surroundings, friendly and prompt service.
Well done Two Black Sheep for filling up my tummy. I look forward to my next visit.

Recently went to Two Black Sheep for a friends birthday. She rung up over a week beforehand and booked a table for 12. When we arrived they had no record of our booking, and for a moment we thought we weren’t going to be served. Thankfully, we did get seated. Myself and at least 3 others ordered the Chicken main, and we found it to be bland and boring. The seasoned vegetables were nothing of the sort. The chicken, which was supposed to have tomato and cream cheese wrapped in bacon, seemed undercooked. There was no tomato in it either, like the menu stated. Two of the orders were wrong, but that is acceptable on a busy night. On a plus side the servers were pleasant and the cocktails delicious, but the meals did take a long time to come out. I wouldn’t go there again.

I have really enjoyed this resturant. My children loved there food. My boys got the preschool meal and I was so suprised at the quality the carrots were cooked but cold so they were perfect for little kids. My daughter had the fish and chips when she finished she said it was the best meal ever. I will definatly be bringing my family back.

Two black sheep is an awesome place to go to eat! Went there in mid november with some friends, we were greeted promptly and the staff had a smile on their faces. We had booked a table for 6, however not everyone from our group had arrived, so we sat out in the courtyard with our drinks. We were not rushed to be at our table at 6pm. When we were seated the staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was amazing as always and I will be returning. We all had the two black sheep burger and they were all well presented and delicious. Thanks again to all the staff at two black sheep. I will return in the near future. :-) 5 stars for you. Keep up the great work.

I have been going to 2 Black Sheep fairly regularly since earlier this year when it opened. Admittedly, I’ve never had a sit down meal but have always found the staff friendly, helpful and always smiling – important when you want to keep going back. Their Happy Hour prices are competitive and on a couple of occasions the barman has actually brought out complimentary bar snacks to help soak up the cold beer. Nice work guys, keep it up!

We visited Two Black Sheep for my 40th in Nov 2011. We had 41 guests in total dining in.

Right from the early booking stages right through to the end of the night we received fantastic service.

The staff were friendly, and helpful. Happy to accommodate the needs of our guests (some did not partake in the set menu, instead ordered off the main menu).

Not to mention the food was fantastic with really generous servings. We had a fantastic night.

I recently had my daughters 13Th birthday party at two black sheep and loved it.
We were put into there function room where they had decorated the table for us with balloons and they had kids menus which you could colour in.
They also put on the big screen with the rugby so the adults had something to do as well.
I had eggs Benedict it came with bacon instead of ham and was great.
As for the rest of the food there was nothing but praise for it especially the burger(it was huge).
Overall it was a great place to have a birthday the staff were friendly and didn’t mind changing things for the fussy people.
I will be going back.

Today I decided to take my husband to lunch with our two children, as we had heard great reviews about the warm, friendly welcome you receive at Two Black Sheep. Well what i had heard was totally correct, we hadn’t booked however the pub was extremely busy and we were advised that there could be a 20 minute wait, which we didn’t mind as we felt welcome. So we waited in the sun drenched courtyard, what a pleasant surprise. the children let off steam as all kids hate to wait. We were offered drinks and the children both had a kid’s cocktail a fluffy black lamb and a spider drink, complete with lollies. they were being as kids always are noisy however the owner a lovely lady Pat, advised us no worries as her and Bill welcome kids as she said this is a family cafe. We were than shown to our table, both children were thrilled to have their own menu’s complete with colouring pencils, a great start.

We ordered the mini hamburger and mini fish and chips which were delicious, just the right size!! We both had the corn fritters which were moist and very tasty.

I must say that the prices are very reasonable and food was great quality, hot.

Service was brilliant, friendly and efficient.

We will definately be back thank you all at Two Black Sheep!!!

Worst experience in a restuarant in years! My fiancee and I went without drinks for the first half an hour apparently due to a computer issue? We only got them after asking again. Then we asked where the garlic bread was that we ordered, the waitress went away and never came back? Then the underwhelming mains turned up, whilst they tasted good the were lacking volume.
Dessert: my almost Chocolate Mud Cake had hardly any cocoa in it and was obviously microwaved to death! My fiancee’s cheesecake was store brought and not handmade as the waiter suggested.
We will never go back to this restuarant. Many friends warned us off but we wanted to try it for ourselves (we wish we hadn’t now)

A group of 7 of us went here for dinner last Saturday night and were not impressed…

- like Angel S (11 May 2011) our cutlery had a nasty taste to it that tainted all the food

- some of the chairs were in need of maintenance/replacement and we did not feel ‘secure’ sitting on them!

- food was pretty average: fish and chips weren’t drained very well so were quite greasy; beef pot pie had big lumps of fat and gristle in it; two of our group both ordered chicken burgers which came out being very different sizes

We won’t be going back.

I love this place and this week I’ve been twice. On Wednesday I had the pork belly which was cooked to perfection! Soooo good and served on a bed of warm mash, spinach and some kind of super delicious sauce. What a satisfying mid-week dinner it was. Accompanied by a bottle of Paper Road (try it if you haven’t already), a 2009 Wairarapa Pinot noir recommended by the highly knowledgeable staff, speaking of whom are some of the most friendliest and welcoming you’ll find. There are so many things that make this place great. A warm relaxing atmosphere, great food/drink, awesome staff. I was back on Friday again for drinks, to relax and unwind with some workmates and once again had an awesome time! Thanks again TwoBlackSheep, you guys rock! :)

Food was great and service excellent. Friendly staff, a great place to take kids. Can’t wait to go again and try some of the other dishes on the menu.Husband had ribs, i had the pork belly, kids had chicken and seafood. Dishes were generous portions, warm and freshly made. Complements to the chef for the sauce on the pork belly. Dessert was yummy. Warm inside on a cold winters night, decor and settings perfect.

My hubby and I visited this place on Saturday night and what a treat, they had just launched a new menu, I don’t know what their last one was but this menu is hard to choose from, it all looks good. My husband had the shrimp cocktail which lacked a bit on the presentation but he said was really moorish and I had the seafood chowder which was served with bread and a king prawn on the side, tops given on that round.

Then it came to the main and husband’s choice was the ribs and I had the Pork Belly, half way through the main we swapped dishes, they were so nice and it’s refreshing to see they are not using the normal sauces which you get everywhere, neither of us has tasted a sauce like they had on the ribs, the pork belly was tender and I was initially reluctant to swap dishes.

On to the desserts, my husband had the mud cake which I agree with him, delectable and I choose the cheesecake of the day which was double chocolate, heaven!!

We’ve found the place in the Hutt we’ve been looking for and will definitely be back.

Wouldn’t go back here again. We went last night with two kids. Friendly enough staff for sure, but the food is just awful, worse than average apart unless you count the kids meals of nuggets and chips which surely you can’t fault. I ordered the two black sheep burger, the meat pattie was charcoal at the bottom about 2cm thick – disgusting, like the pattie had got stuck on the grill and they scraped it off with all the other stuck on food. My husband ordered the rolled roast pork, which came with two strips of pork, had a funny taste – not impressed at all. We were asked twice if we wanted to hear the specials, when we had already been TOLD the specials. The staff don’t communicate at all, why send 3 plus people over to keep asking about taking an order or taking drinks etc? Would NEVER go back again. $85 – waste of money!!!

Very happy with the meal. Chef not that great with presentation skills but makes up with the quality of food. We thought both the food and drinks provided very good value for money. Service was exceptional. We walked in off the street, were seated straight away and didn’t have to wait long for the bread and subsequent mains. We were looked after during our meal and couldn’t have asked for more.
I had the lamb – Nice! also highly recommend date pudding.
Planning on going back in a month

My husband and I had dinner here last Fri night. We were not sure what to expect because we read the mixed reviews before we went.I have to say-we were most pleasantly suprised. We shared a bread&dips entree(plenty of it and tasty dips)AND also the calamari(5 stars chef!!!we have had lots of calamari before but this was the most tenderist, delicious EVER!!)For mains ~ Hubby had rib-eye,med rare(he was very happy!)I had fish-terakihi(and I finished all my dinner-I never ever do that usually!)
I was a bit miffed at the barman-note*you should serve people in order of arrival,we were first! But that aside, all the wait-staff were friendly&attentive.
I give 5 stars partly for the service and food which were both better than just very good but mostly,we are still raving about the calamari,so keep that chef on!!

I decided to go out to dinner with my family and friend to Two Black Sheep. We ordered the garlic bread for entree (which was good) and my daughter ordered the fish ‘n’ chips off the kids menu and came with our entree’s her meal was so oily that when we got home she threw it all back up. Mains: me and my friend ordered the ribs, way to much onion on the “sauce” more like a relish. The chips should be on the side of the ribs not underneath anyway as i was eating my salad on the plate I tasted something funny and thought that I had sprayed my perfume to close to my face but then i licked my fork and turned to my friend and told her to lick her fork….the look on her face said it all. So she go up and told the owner that the forks tasted like methylated spirits and his response was “ahh ok” then I watch him doing whatever it was he was doing (which wasn’t taking the forks off the table and re-washing them) I found that pretty disgusting!!!! Other than that our waitress was really good that night and the younger staff were really nice.

I went for my 65th birthday dinner there last night, 26 April 2011, with a group of 20 people and I just want to say how impressed everyone was. The meal was lovely and hot, plenty of it, meat beautiful and tender and the waitress we had was superb, who made it into a really special occasion for me and my family/friends who came from different parts of NZ and Wellington. The colonial goose fans said it was the best they had had for a long time.

The only complaint some people had was the bread and butter pudding was a bit dry; they suggested that the Chef find Aunt Daisy’s or grandma’s recipe for this as it should be nice and soft. I am sure the Chef can accommodate this for next time. Everyone raved about the sticky date pudding.

Once again thanks for a great evening; many of the group will definitely be coming back and passing the word around amongst their friends to come to Two Black Sheep.

Went for dinner for the first time on Saturday night with friends, we all agree they have the best steaks we have had in a very long time, meals were big so bring your appetite. Hubby had prawn cocktail and nearly licked the dish. Personally I was in heaven with the sticky date pudding & caramel sauce. I highly recommend you give them a try.

Went to the Hutt looking for a good meal. Drove by the Cadillac Diner. Been there before. Looked inside, 6 people at 7pm on Saturday. No change apparently. We drove on. Came to to this place. Went in and checked the menu. Looked like real good food at good prices. The place had a quite a few people there too. And so we we sat…

We started by ordering our starter – Garlic Bread. When it eventually turned up there didn’t seem to any garlic. Cheese, yes. Lots of cheese, but no garlic. And it was small. Four very small pieces of french bread about 3-4 cm long with a crapload of cheese. $9. I could see trouble on the horizon.

Our mains turned up about 60-70 minutes after we ordered them. Our drinks (that we ordered 20 minutes before our mains arrived) came about 10 minutes after our mains arrived.

Now to the mains themselves:

I ordered the ‘pork knuckle served in a mildly spiced two black bbq sauce with chips’. There was no bbq sauce. If they think it was bbq sauce, they need cooking lessons, soon. Probably a lot of them. It was a relish, and an average one at that. For good measure it was a tomato based relish, not a bbq based one. Tomato. Lots and lots of tomato. The chips came under the knuckle…and the relish. There was a lot of relish. It completely covered my chips. The chips of course being smothered in RELISH, NOT bbq sauce, were soggy and horrible. The pork knuckle was ok, but there really wasn’t a lot of meat on it. I counted how many forkfuls a got. It was easy, there were four. There was also a lot of tomato relish on the knuckle. And the chips.

Now to my wife’s meal. She ordered the ‘tender chicken thighs’. There was one thigh. An ‘s’ is used when there is more than one. Two for instance would be more than one. As would three, four, five etc etc. Other than that it was ok. Decidedly average was the sentence actually used.

The service (outside of being pathetically slow) was surprisingly good. Very friendly and trying to be helpful, which was hard considering the above. As we left the waitress she said she’d see us next time. No, you won’t.

All in all this is not somewhere we’d ever consider going again.

Hubby and I first went to this establishment 20 March. Ordered mince on toast & shearers brekky. Absolutely beautiful meals. The mince was rich, filled with vegetables, mushrooms, beans – just gorgeous. My husbands shearers brekky was equally gorgeous, delicious scrambled eggs, generous portions of streaky bacon, mushrooms etc.. We were so thrilled I asked for menus to hand out at work and I was generous with my praise.

Sunday 10 April returned expecting same quality of food. WRONG…..it was as different as night and day. Mince was colourless, plain, watery & tasteless, eggs were marginal, ciabatta was soggy due to the watery mince, husbands bacon was crispy & sparse…scrambled eggs were dry,…not good at all.
Waitress informed us there was a different ‘chef’ on today. Well that was obvious.
2BS must be consistently good if we are going to return.

8 of us booked in for dinner last night. Service was fantastic, barman was friendly and helpful – top marks to him. Same goes to duty manager. Niece’s meal was free as was her birthday we were out to celebrate.
entrees were delish, garlic cob, calamari – yum :-) chicken and pork belly not avail.
I ordered Colonial Goose – delicious, except the potato’s were a bit hard.
4 ordered fish and loved it, 3 ordered burgers – pattie was not nice – big and thick sure, but not tasty.
However, friendly, efficient staff more than made up for the shortcomings but that alone won’t entice us back for a while.

We were pleasantly surprised with our meal at Two Black Sheep, having heard some horror stories from family and friends about the food and service recently. The food is standard pub fare; no particularly special and with reasonably sized portions. We started with thick pieces of crumbed calamari with lemon and tartare, which was surprisingly tender. I had chicken thighs stuffed with cherry tomatoes and cream cheese and wrapped in bacon for my main. The flavours were very rich but there wasn’t much chicken or tomato inside the bacon. My partner’s medium rare scotch fillet was quite thin, resembling rump steak. Our service throughout our meal was excellent – very attentive, pleasant and quick in a quirky, inviting environment.

After reading the mixed reviews posted we decided to give Two Black Sheep the benefit of the doubt, and we’re pleased we did. We were seated immediately on arrival and our waitress was both friendly, efficient and helpful. She took our drinks and starters order, then once our drinks were delivered took our mains order, which meant we weren’t having to wait ages for our mains to arrive after we had finished our entree. This is good management and not something we have come across many times before.
I ordered the breads and dips for starters, which was nice although the dips I was presented with weren’t the ones on the menu. My husband ordered the mussels in white wine and spicy salsa, which he thoroughly enjoyed.
I ordered sirloin steak (medium) for my mains, with chips and salad. The steak was cooked beautifully and was delicious, and although the chips were slightly undercooked they were nice as well.
My husband ordered the spare ribs and for $21.00 we got more than our money’s worth. The ribs were huge and meaty, and there were plenty of them. He is a big eater but struggled to get through them all plus his chips and salad. The sauce they were cooked in was lovely (I pilfered one of his ribs to try)- not your traditional bbq sauce which appealed.
One thing that we really liked was that our waitress wasn’t the only one helping with our table, the wait staff seemed to be working in tandem and our plates were cleared immediately by another waitress, and we had yet another waitress ask in passing if we needed more drinks once we had finished ours and whether our meal was ok. Although some diners may see this as being too over the top, we thought it was great service and is one of the reasons we will be making a return visit. Overall a very pleasant experience and one we look forward to repeating.

We visited Two Black Sheep for the first time last night. We were rather wary following earlier comments about this place but very surprised! There was absolutely no difficulty whatsoever with our vouchers. We had two fantastic meals chosen from the full menu – ribs and a steak, plus a glass of wine and a beer all for the stated voucher price. The service was excellent and the food great. I’d go so far as to say the ribs were amongst the best I’ve tasted locally. We’ll definitely be going back.

We had a group of 8 of us (4 adults & 4 children). The service was a little slow to start with taking our order but the girl was very sweet and bubbly.
The kids meals were fantastic value and good quality. They came out with crayons and the menu was a colouring sheet.
We found the meals very substantial (even took home a doggy bag). They were well presented and well cooked. We loved it and we’re going back again soon.
Highly recommend this for adults & kids alike.

We ordered the toasted Ciabatta and the homemade beef pattie. The Ciabatta was ok but the burger was dry and had way too much garlic. Our table was sticky and we had to fight flies in order to eat our meal. That was off putting! And a warning for those who bought vouchers on Spreets.co.nz – even though it quite clearly says on the vouchers “one voucher per person per visit” there were two of us and we were only allowed to use one voucher. There was a sign at the door saying vouchers could not be used for couples, only for groups of 6 or more. We buy those vouchers all the time and never had a problem before!
Anyways, as we had another voucher to use we went back the next day for breakfast. It was better than the lunch, even though mushroom wasn’t cooked properly and the sausages were a bit over deep fried! By the time we left we were the only ones there and had to go to find someone to sort out the payment as there was no one around.
Overall customer service was ok, meals could be much better. We dine out a lot and always expect a little gourmet touch to the meals but here it looked like something I could have made at home myself

well cold black and oily was asked for no tomatoe due to alergie guess what they gave it to me, mushrroms were black mind you so was everyting else. The wait staff were so apologetic and the management refused to let the chef come out to see me even though he came out anyway.
$21 for a breakfast I think it should look what it says it is.
Replacement was better but it is a heart attack waiting with all the salt.

Our family of 6 (mum, dad and 4 kids ages 7 – 1) went to Two Black Sheep and Baa on a Sunday night for a birthday dinner. We were very happy with the quality of service, very attentive (but not too attentive) staff, and excellent food. The little ones enjoyed their mains, in particular the fussy 3 year old, and the kids cocktails are a sight to behold. Mum and Dad had very nicely done steaks, cooked as requested. The speed of dinner delivery was quick, perhaps a little too fast, but bearing in mind the attention span of the younger diners, this was not a bad thing. All in all an excellent experience and we will be back.

I have visited this wonderful new restaurant on four separate occasions now. I have always found the staff to be very friendly, and the food is mouth watering! I highly recommend this restaurant to all, it is great for both families & groups, and I will be back!

I visited two black sheep on sunday 6 feb and although there were a few items on the menu that were unavailable which we were told was due to the unexpected influx of people in the weekend, the experience as a whole was excellent. my fish of the day (terakihi with lemon butter) was absolutely delicious, all our meals arrived on time and were enjoyed by every member of our table of 8. the drinks were reasonably priced as was our dinner and the service was exceptionally wonderful. thats what i call service with a smile!
would recommend to all

Thanks for the great report, a bit of a contrast from the previous two, when you wrote in we had been open under two weeks. What a hectic couple of weeks that was, green staff with few leaders we had to put in lots of training to get them to where we are now. A…    More »

Well there was 4 in our group – we booked a table, were nearly seated with the wrong people. We were pressured into ordering as soon as we sat down. Meat was tough with each meal. Something was missing off each meal ie. no crackling, no yorkshire pudding, no specials on their menus, no fish as advertised. The waitresses constantly interrupted and reached across the table clearing cutlery, plates as soon as we finished, removing our drinks as we were still drinking, we were not told these bits of food were missing off the menu when we ordered. We were asked how our meals were constantly, we told them werent happy – nothing happened – we did get one free dessert – oh yes, the fruit advertised was not available! would not recommend this restaurant, food cooked too fast, staff in a rush to clean up and go home
