Ujazi is perfect for sun lovers who want to sip their coffee while people watching or looking at the art in the gallery window. Ujazi does get very busy and sometimes there is a wait for meals, although they tell you this when you order. They do have a good chiller cabinet selection of slices, cakes and panini type quick lunches though, if you can’t wait.
I think they’ve slimmed their menu down lately, which is a good thing because you got neck ache before, trying to choose while looking up. There was just too much to read while in a queue for ordering.
The coffee here is excellent, the carrot cake yummy and food good and fresh.
The only downside is having to sit outside in gloomy weather because the inside is full. If you have to sit outside then, choose their porridge with cream and sugar and everything will be alright in the world.
Ujazi is that popular that the cafe over the road must be wondering where they are going wrong.

Disappointing is now all I can say about the new Ujazi menu. The food cabinet is almost bare and lacks any real vision and the blackboard menu is uninspiring.
The slow roasted beef salad I chose for my lunch was bland, small and over-priced. It said it had new potatoes in it … hmmm so to find wedges instead was a surprise. Oh and two tiny bits of diced cheese???
Wonder if I should bother to mention the lack of dressing!
I am sorry to write this as Ujazi was always a favourite but now it will be solely a quick takeaway coffee stop

The coffee alone gets a five star rating from me…love it!
Cafe is always busy, great people always served with a smile. Needs airCon for those hot days and chilly winter days. Best spot for soaking up the HB sun and people watching. O for Awesome.

To be honest this place has got a very good coffee, no doubt about that but the service is just shocking, it pretty much does not exist just a few zombies standing and staring at each other.
food is average as well.

It was busy I’ll give it that much and it does very much have that artsy cafe feel about it. Coffee wasn’t too bad.
It’s hard to say what the atmosphere was like inside, other than hot! It was a very warm day but fortunately there were a string of tables lined up along the store front outside – all relatively busy.
So busy that there was an hour long wait for any cooked foods. It gave us a chance to do some people watching.
The breakfast itself was fairly standard as far as breakfasts go. I can’t complain about the portions too much or anything, but my poached eggs were overdone! (my pet hate).

I’ve been to Napier quite a few times and always end up at Ujazi…. great variety of food and great coffee (worth the wait). Highly recommended.
