Has changed hands over the years, the food isn’t as good as it used to be and is overrated. Shanghai and a few other restaurants around the same area do a much better job

I have been to uncle changs once on a visit to wellington and i still dream about the lemon chicken i ordered.. it was succulent and the batter crispy. just amazing nom nom nom nom!! my partner ordered sweet and sour pork which he also enjoyed but as i recall he ate alot of mine as well! the service was good and the food served incredibly quickly- however, when dining out i like to settle in a wee bit before my food arrives. I sort of felt rushed and would have preferred to have a glass of wine and a chat before eating. you also have to order rice seperately which i didn’t realise atm. overall a very pleasant experience, i cannot wait to go back for more of that amazing lemon chicken!!!!

I’ve been eating at uncle Chang’s for years and love the place. The food is quick, always hot and delicious, reasonable price, and being next to Readings Cinema means its a great place to pop into before or after a movie. My favourite dish is the sizzling beef (which comes on a hot plate). I also like the fact the decor hasn’t changed in years (some green paint on the outside, bright read dragons and lanterns on the inside – just great). Undoubtedly there are other places where the beef is more tender or the chicken is cooked better – but I think the whole uncle chang’s experience is great.

Got all excited over the rave reviews (Mr Burton included)and although the chicken and cashew nuts were good, we were very disappointed with the sweet and sour pork. The pork pieces were small, overcooked and very dry. Staff were pleasant but given the choice of other asian restaurants, we will probably not return here.

Brilliant service, and excellent food. The satay chicken and orange beef are delicious, as are the garlic prawns. Quick and tasty, would definitely go again.

My friends and I frequently dine at Uncle Chang’s. There are usually 5 or 6 of us and we always get a nice round table with a lazy susie, which is great because we are able to share our dishes easily. The food is always delicious and tasty. My favourite is the chicken and satay sauce, it comes out on a sizzling hot plate. The staff are friendly and attentive. Uncle Chang’s really is a Wellington icon and I would recommend it to everyone.

After eating here for near on 20 years I thought this was the best chinese in wellington however i went recently and ordered my fav orange beef and man was i dissapointed to find it completly differnt to how it used to be-nowehere near as good and the other meal i ordered had very tough pork bits in it. I was shocked, not sure if I will return now that they have changed the chef. Pity…
