Based on previous reviews we met friends here for lunch – a halfway point for both couples. The food was excellent and the choice varied. The friendly, staff and helpful advice about how to use quince were an added bonus. We will be back!

Called in one evening to check the place out. Was won over immediately by the ambience, artwork on the walls, helpfulness and friendliness of the staff and the menu and wine lists looked pretty good. Made a point of having breakfast there the next day and couldn’t fault anything. Naturally, dined there that evening and had breakfast again the next day. Impressed by the consistency of the food quality, friendly helpfulness of the staff and their willingness to put themselves out to please you. Oh, yes, the food and wine were everything you’d expect and reasonably priced.

The Vault celebrated its first birthday this weekend (11/12th July) and we’re chuffed to say we’ve been visiting for the same amount of time! We travel frequently from Hawkes Bay to Palmy and The Vault ties at first place with The Paper Mulberry, for the best cafe on our route.

From the outside it’s unassuming, but inside the old bank building is light and airy with leather sofas to rest in, as well as the usual tables and chairs. Gaylene and her staff are always cheery and welcoming and despite its size, the place is warm on a cold winters day.

The menu isn’t vast but that’s not a bad thing here. It’s the usual cafe fare but with the odd (good) twist. The portions are generous, the food of very good quality and the coffee excellent. My OH asked for his steak to be ‘blue’ and was surprised when the chef delivered it herself. She was so pleased someone had asked for a rare steak!

We’ll carry on planning our trips to coincide with lunch at the Vault and would happily recommend it to anyone.

Best cafe in Dannevirke.Located in a former bank chambers this cafe is light airey and even when busy is quite spacious with plenty of room between tables.Staff are attentive but busy.Great mid level contemporary black board menu with sensible prices we enjoyed a very pleasant lunch with adequate sized servings.Under previous owner this cafe languished but with recent young new owners it has taken on a new life.At the weekends the cafe becomes a mid to upmarket restaurent in the evenings.Although this is at yet untried a quick perusal of the menu showed a good range of enticing offerings.I shall try the restaurent shorty and report.
