We went on a Sunday evening and they only had three tables occupied, but because the restaurant is divided into areas by large wine barrels it didn’t seem empty. Service was good and the food was amazing, each course was full of complex flavours and textures. It is not cheap with two entrees, two mains and a shared desert plus a bottle of wine costing $192 but it was worth every cent. Would go back any day.

The staff were knowledgeable and helpful but perhaps a little bit too casual. We were left waiting a wee bit.
The food was sublime – we had the duck and the pork mains. Beautifully presented and good honest flavours. The petit fours for pudding were heavenly.
The deal breaker though was the tacky fake battery operated candles in plastic beakers. This is Vidals not Valentines!!!
Conclusion: I’ll definitely be back if someone here recognises the magic of a real candle-lit dinner and brings back wax candles in glass votives.
The menu has changed to that which is on the Vidal website, but still contains lots of variety. We chose the crusted lamb fillets.
We started with a plate of bread and olive oil which was very tasty, fresh and yeasty, just how we like it. Our mains arrived very quickly, a bit too quickly to be honest as we had barely settled in. We felt very rushed.
The lamb was well cooked, lovely and pink on the inside but the ‘crust’ was more reminiscent of a thick piece of readylawn. It was bright green, nearly a centimetre thick and far from crusty. It also didn’t really have any real taste. We put it aside and ate the lamb. It was disappointing as we were both in the mood for crunchy crusted lamb. The risotto underneath was lovely and the accompanying vegetables were very tasty (carrots and courgettes), although the silverbeet was pretty raw.
A nice meal, that could have been a lot better…….
