Nice little pub out in Patamahoe, excellent carparking and nice theme. But found it overpriced, bad coffee and a waitress that just didn’t want to hear our concerns. We had whitebait fritters, $18.00 for 3 small fritters with 12 rocket leaves, no dressing or bread to pad it out. Overpriced, we thought, we know whitebait is expensive, but we weren’t told at the time of ordering it was just an entree size. The waitress also just wasn’t interested when we voiced concerns over the size of the meal, it was like I don’t care. One of our group complained and got a free omelet to replace 6 mini thai fish cakes for $18.00. but really should you have to complain to get a reasonable meal? Coffee? Don’t bother the whole table said theirs were not good. We can get better value in places like Gordonton, if you’re going to use remote location for an excuse. The breakfast brunch menu looked good and the meals were substantial. But on the whole very overpriced.

We go to “The Village” on a semi regular basis, just my hubby & I and also with friends. Love the food, love the atmosphere, love that you can become a member & get discounts, love bike night. Never yet had a problem with staff. My fav for dinner is the chicken breast!

The man that served us was abrupt and could do with a lesson in hospitality!

My meal was average (I had chicken breast)but my friend had the Calamari and that was nice. I think the prices are quite high for what it is.

Would probably come here again for drinks and wedges but not main meals.

Unfortunately I agree that the staff seem ‘put out’and it would be a much nicer experience if they smiled and welcomed their customers. Can’t fault the food though!!!!
We were there tonight 26/08/2011 and it was extremely busy. One group of 30 and another of 22 as well as the normal patrons. Food was awesome and ‘Goodness! do my eyes deceive me? Is that Simon Gault? Yes it is…he knows a class place to eat!!!

Been to the Village several times. Good atmosphere/vibe for a country pub. Owners friendly enough however some of the bar/wait staff couldn’t crack a smile if their life depended on it! Food – got put off eating there when I got the “special” tuna which came out like tinned tuna it was sooooo dry! Tried again with the pizzas which ARE fab and they seemed to redeem themselves however yesterday when I ordered my standard “fungirl”(mushroom and basil)pizza with bacon and feta extra the price went from $22 to $28 – never been charged for extras – it seems they are now doing so. Love that pizza but I aint stoopid $28 is just toooo much – sorry guys….
Just to update all those considering stopping in for a nose bag at the Village.
Being a local stopped by and had a chat with the owner who very kindly offered a voucher to try again – which we did!
Totally pleased with latest experience – pizza was great (as always), sesame crumbed tuna was cooked to perfection (rare on the inside and not dry) and the calamari was yummo! Recant my previous review it was all good and not “poofter food” (mega price for minscule portion). Good portions at a good price!! Staff were friendly and smiley (one thing that doesn’t cost – hospitality fundamental). Thank you both we will be back!! And if you haven’t been there yet then – “where the bloody hell are ya”!!

Have been here twice now for lunch. They have really cracked the excellent balance between country comfort, and professional style.

A warm, inviting, accommodating operation that is definitely now our new local (even if it is a bit of a drive).

Accommodated our kids well too, made sure the fireplace was warm enough for us, and generally a delight to visit.

To the owner & staff – well done.

Thoroughly enjoyed our meal, excellent cuisine,
fairly priced in a lovely country atmosphere.
Although to be fair I would agree with reviewer
Mel in that it would nice for a bit of customer service, such as checking if everything was ok with the meal and if we had enjoyed it. Maybe a customer service course for staff would be of assistance. But all in all a lovely evening!

Interesting food, compliments to the chef for the good food and menu choice. Mid week is now busy (Thursday) so would not recommend if you want something quiet and romantic, great for groups. Service is terrible, some of the wait staff manners are appalling and definitely need to be improved. However apart from the wait staff good atmosphere.

This new owner has done a great job with refurbishing The Village Bar and Grill. The menu is great and the food is really tasty.

He has live music and the night we were there a superb duo were there called Groovejet. Lynne McCutcheon the lead singer is awesome, she got out and about with her mic and involved us all as she sung heaps of great 70s and 80s songs, it was the best night out our group had had for years.

This is great country bar with a nice safe fun feel about it, well be there again when Groovejet is back as we know it will be a fun night.
