Well we ate here 3 times during our stay at the Copthorne. Breakfast Sunday was poor. The scrambled eggs the worst I’ve eaten anywhere. Almost rubbery in a yellowy liquid. Funnily enough taking the prize for the worst scrambled eggs off Alfresco’s where we’d eaten a day before. The bacon was bland, the coffee machine didn’t work well. We left disappointed by the spread. Monday we ate there deciding to avoid aspects of the menu. We avoided the coffee. The scrambled eggs were much better today and far better than Alfresco’s offering. The bacon was good. In fact the overall meal was satisfying hotel fare. Our third meal here was dessert on the Sunday night. I had pannacotta. It was a good pannacotta let down by a far too sweet syrup. It also didn’t seem to come with the roast peach. My wife had the Creme Brûlée. She gave the top a tap and nothing. The surface was browned but it was part of the liquid below. The liquid below was a liquid. This would have been best described as Creme Custard or better still just custard that was browned on top. There was no sweetness to the top. It was a Creme Brulee that should never have been served. Overall a disappointing experience. We’ve eaten at Copthorne Omapere and Oriental Parade and bot these put this Copthorne to shame.

Bit disappointing.

We ordered a couple of drinks from the bar which were interesting in flavour / mixes to say the least. If we were trying these drinks for the first time we wouldn’t be repeating the request.

Fish was ok.

Pork belly was poor.

Service was ok but not exactly great.

Absolutely amazing meal we shared at Waitangi Restaurant. Oysters were fresh and the duck salad was interesting with a crazy citrus flavour combo – very enjoyable, however I think sliced duck breast would have been better than shredded. The veges/potato sides were huge and beautifully cooked for “simple side dishes”. The real hero’s of the day were the absolutely perfectly cooked Pork Belly (10/10!!) and the Fillet of Beef wrapped in bacon also (10/10!!), extremely good… we left very very satisfied and are rapidly thinking of excuses to come back for our next special meal out occasion when heading up North on holiday. We asked that huge thanks and compliments were passed to the chef, so I do hope you got them. Many thanks again for making a special occasion for us (my 30th Bday dinner), even more enjoyable!!!
