Dined at Wakelin House with my partner last Saturday, and we had one of the most enjoyable restaurant experiences we have ever had, thanks to the unbeatable combination of outstanding service and great food and wine.
We were staying some way out of town, so I enquired the evening before about transport options. We were delighted that the restaurant offered to drive us home after the meal – and they later called to ask if we needed a lift in as well!
The service with the meal matched this great start – we chose to start with a couple of glasses of sparkling wine – it was slightly flat when poured, but they noticed and replaced it even before we had commented!
All the staff with whom we dealt proved friendly, focused, knowledgeable and very professional. We felt welcomed and in control – we were able to dine at the pace which suited us, we were neither rushed or kept waiting at any time.
Great service like that absolutely puts you in the right mood to enjoy the evening, and Wakelin followed up with excellent advice on wine matching and of course great food.
All in all, a great evening, thanks to a faultless display by a restaurant which deserves to be much more widely known.

My wife and I took friends to Waklin House for their 70th birthday. It was a perfect fine-dining experience for all of us. Innovative menu, with excellently cooked and presented dishes, service that was cheerful and attentive yet allowing us room to relax and talk, and great ambience with warm log fire and a feeling of intimacy. Highly recommended.

Don’t know where those last reviewers went but it wasn’t to this restaurant… We had an amazing night here. It’s not italian and the old chef must have left as the food was incredible. The pork ribs with truffle honey are to die for!
my full compliments to the chef and staff at this restaurant. we had a fantastic meal and enjoyed every minute of our evening. we would highly recommend this restaurant. thank you guys!!
Took my mother out for dinner on Friday night, wishing I had read the “cuisine” write up before hand, if I had I would have cancelled my booking. It wasn’t as bad as the review suggested it was much much worse. Unprofessional and lazy with little knowledge of the food they are serving and at best warm food, not what you’d expect from a place that charges the prices they do!
The chef??? is obviously more at pains to keep his hair in order being in dreadlocks than looking after the food he’s presenting.
I could go on and on , but suffice to say it’s not working for you, give up and try something else,it was a disgrace you all should be ashamed of what you produce and how its served.
The cuisine critic wasn’t hard enough on you…

This place had a major makeover with new decor and menu. We were disappointed with the standard and presentation of food and do not expect to pour our own water or wine. Four mains were ordered and all arrived with the same vegetables yet a menu distributed at the weekly farmers market showed different local vegetables to match the meat/fish. We were checking the place out after a poor experience 12 months ago, unfortunately we will not be returning.
