Terrible. Disinterested bar staff who seem to be doing you a favour by getting you a drink. The meals took an eternity to come out and when they did they were luke warm and were very average. None of us in our group rated the place and we wouldn’t be back.

Dined at Wanaka Ale House (NO LONGER SPEIGHTS ALE HOUSE) prior to xmas found the staff to be very helpful regarding the area and what to do while in Wanaka, food was ok, great views from the bar but very windy … she informed us that this bar hasn’t been a Speights Ale House for quite some time now (approx 3 years )hence the difference of menu rather than a nationally recognized menu and beverage lists its a shame that this is no longer a Speights Ale House .

The waitress seemed distracted and the other one seemed to be covering her backside constantly. After watching the couple next to us telling them they were not paying for their meals as it was uneatable. My partners meal first appeared not well presented but she said it tasted ok. My roast pork looked like it had been scraped off the floor and the ‘steamed’ Veges were dry and looked like left overs. Over all we will not go back even after the bending over of the one waitress who was smart enough to see things were way below standard and tried to compensate. Again a disappointing eating out experience that is encouraging us to become better cooks at home !

Went with a group of 10 friends, all of the steaks were terrible, cooked badly and poor quality meat. I have had many steaks, this was easily one of the worst. The pork looked and tasted like food you would get from a high school cafeteria. The rabbit pie pastry was a hard biscuit. All the vegetables were very undercooked. I would not recommend this ever, you could get a better meal for a third of the price. We complained to the waitress and they all ignored us.

terrible terrible food. $25 main, slapped together. It was deep fried fish, all oily batter, was the larger size but hardly any fish. And the salad, was just lettuce, tiny bit of red onion and NO DRESSING! yuck. Poor lay out of restaurant means minimal service down the front if eating there for the view of the lake. Go there for a drink.. but not dinner.
