This would have to be one of the top restaurants in the Waikato. I have been there several times now, lunch and dinner and every time my dining experience has been superb. The staff are extremely friendly and the food is to die for. Would highly recommend this restaurant.

the service was excellent, our waitress was friendly and helpful. we were a little disapointed by the food. it was beautifully presented, yet the eye fillet did not melt in your mouth, and lacked flavour. the fish was nice, as was the chicken. the meals werent outstanding. the wine list was limited in terms of what you could get by the glass, with just one option, and mystery creek wines is not my first choice at all. a nice evening, but expected more.

The woodbox is one of the top listed restaurants in Hamilton, so again we hoped for an amazing food experience.
Everything was really good. You come into a homely athmosphere with a nice fire. The service, a fellow from Brasil, was really good and friendly.
The steak tartare for entree was really good with a crumbed poached egg. I absolutely love steak tartare and prepare it often myself, but this was exquisite. Good flavours and textures, well presented.
The main was the fish of the day (hapuka). Again, good flavours although the hapuka fillet was quite smal for the price. If you’d only have the main, you might consider another dish to feel satisfied: fair enough, there’s enough good food on the menu
Dessert was a filo pastry and custard: very nice but not the most overwhelming dessert, although the chocolate fondant of my dining partner was fabulous.
After a three course meal, you are definitely satisfied. I am quite a big eater myself, and I couldn’t fit in much beloved cheeses
Definitely top in the waikato!

Lovely restaurant, although the food wasn’t as tasty as I had expected. My husband ordered the $68 steak which was meant for two (he was hungry) and he finished the whole thing, along with an entree and a dessert. Just average in my opinion. Good wine though. I had the pork as my main and the sticky date pudding as dessert. Wouldn’t hurry back

A bit of a drive off the beaten track on a rainy night from Hamilton!
Pre-book would be best..we had an early dinner & it filled fast!
Online booking a bonus!
Lighting in the carpark not so great & a few pot holes but lots of parking!
Very warm & cosy with the fireplace! Beautiful intimate setting!
VERY attentive service!
Used the entertainment guide gold card so got a bargin but otherwise NOT cheap!
Main meal of chicken & eye fillet cooked to perfection!
Worth a trip for something different!

My partner and I are very hard to please, as both of us are from the industry but all the good things we had heard were absolutely true. This restaurant was amazing, the service, the atmosphere and the food. I would rate it the best in the area, don’t let the price put you off or the fact it is out of town, it is more than worth it.

This is meant to be one of the top restaurants in the Waikato.
Have been there several times for both, lunch and dinner during winter the place is nice and warm but summer the flies are a killer.. The staff are friendly and the food is good, as it should be for the price.

I rang and booked into woodbox an hour before arrival, they were very accommodating considering my late booking and said that it was fine. Arrived and couldnt believe the great atomosphere, view and the staff were just amazing. Food was devine, have since been back twice. Took friends from overseas for lunch and they highly recommend Woodbox as well. Try it out people, well worth the drive!

Went for dinner after having a fantastic lunch.but we were to be so disappointed the evening meal was tasteless with good veal and fish wasted. The veal was soggy had the dusting flour still underneath after it had been cooked in a greasy oil which stewed the veal and left an unsavoury aftertaste. The fish Harpuka was cooked in the same oil and was spoilt.
Wine was nice and nice Staff pity the Chef let them down

I decided to go here on advice from my sister, who said she’d heard great reviews on it.
So we went to The Woodbox on a very busy Wednesday night with a large group of us (including young children) and we all had a great night.
The staff were very helpful and friendly, the food very tasty and fresh, and service very efficient.
It is definitely worth trying.
Many thanks for a great night, we will definitely be back!
