10 Reviews for ZOMER at McKenzie’s
This place is average at best. Service started off well, with menus and water being given quickly, and orders taken promptly. The food was ok, the kroketten lacked flavour though and were not piping hot. What really let the experience down was lack of attention to the customers, I.e checking if more coffees were wanted, or any desserts. It took some time to flag someone down, and it was definitely not busy. The overall attitude of wait staff is disinterested.

Disappointing service -3 other tables who ordered after us received their coffees first. My long black when it came was the equivalent of a ristretto and not hot.The barista needs to go and find out how to make a true long black as excellent ones can be found all over Auckland. When the breakfasts came the portions were small and miserly, in particular the fruit salad and the scambled eggs. Not sure if this was supposed to look upmarket and trendy or what but it just looked as if they were penny-pinching.

Went here today and I thought it was great. Had the bruschetta and it was yum. Coffee was great. The staff were very helpful even while being very busy. The staff are also quirky and interesting, creating a certain character about the cafe that I enjoy.
I think people who have had bad experiences have written majority of the reviews here, and the good experiences have been missed!
I’d recommend the juices!

I was really looking forward to eating here today, as a fan of their sister cafe in Herne Bay, however it wasn’t meant to be!
Although fully staffed (we counted at least 4 wait staff) we grabbed our own water, also gave up waiting to be given menus, so got those ourselves.
We proceeded to wait to be served, and although the wait staff made eye contact, not one came near us and after 15 minutes we gave up and left.
Unsure why service was so bad, as there were empty tables, do not super busy.
A real shame as the menu sounded great and the plates we saw looked delish.

I’m not sure what all these others are on about…I love coming here for coffee and lunch. The food is always so fresh and tasty. Great atmosphere and the staff are lovely. I would defiantly recommend trying it out.

Was the 3/1/2013 Sunday … The girls and I where out for a nice lunch far from it we had to wait for our meals one of the girls had the omelette said it was over cooked and dry. I had the poached eggs they where hard I asked for soft eggs to top it off they where cold.
The other lady did enjoy there meals. Coffee was really good.
That would be a 5/5 food has let it down in this case.
This is a shame, I heard good things about the place.

I was in on Monday the 14th, coffee was great taste so good. I was looking forward to the food I was told about the place, myself and a friend ordered. Presentation of the food was so so the food had no soul no salt no pepper it goes a long way …
I was disappointed.
I did give Zomer a 2nd chance Friday the 18th for a business lunch. I came in had their home made juice served in a warm glass no ice. Would not be back, food was poor.

Just walked into this cafe which has newly opened in Takapuna. Have had coffee here before which was not bad. Unfortunately, don’t know why I decided to have a sandwich but I did today and I can’t beat myself up for it. Was in a hurry and ordered an open sandwich with single bacon and avocado. Judging by the price ($12), one would at least think that this will somewhat be substantial if not filling. To my horror when I opened the takeaway box, there was a couple of measly tiny slices of wholegrain bread with some mesclun leaves and a couple of cherry tomatoes split in halves. Not mentioning a hint of avocado and thin slice of bacon. I have to say that it the lamest attempt at making a sandwich. I don’t think I will be going back there again considering there are a lot of nice cafes in the area. In my opinion, to be a sought after cafe you need to have thing on your menu that stand out. If it doesn’t then don’t have it on there!

If you are pregnant make a point of saying so…
We tried this cafe after reading a great review. Lovely decor and location, though as it was raining we had to squish inside. We had the Asparagus dish which came out looking absolutely lovely, though as they fail to clearly write on the menu what is on the dish, I was surprised by Mayo all over the bread and could not eat it due to raw eggs in the Mayo. So upon asking for it to be redone, i had to wait patiently (about 20 minutes at the very least!) while my friend tried to eat as slowly as possible. When she had finished her meal, had her plate cleared and waited another few minutes, I was finally given my new dish. It was nice, nothing i couldn’t have done at home. The real kicker was the rude woman who said “You should have told us you were pregnant” – well lady – 27 weeks pregnant with a bump, and you didn’t put it on your menu!”
When paying, I was given the same message “If you had told us you were pregnant… blah blah” but no “Sorry” was uttered.
So nice place for a casual brunch but beware of the wait… and make sure you tell them you are pregnant.

Visited Zomer yesterday
A lovely setting, the outdoors will be popular when the sun shines.
Although the coffee was a bit weak, I am sure they will get their act together, after all they have only been open 1 week.
