26/05/2012I would only have nice things to say about this place. My partner and I have been here a few times for breakfast and for dinner. Great barrista! I would have to say that the coffees and the hot chocolates are one of the best that we have had! The breakfast meals and dinner mains are decent servings! The creamy mushroom is absolutely beautiful, having had it in the big breakfast and on my steak dinner main. I had the bread and butter pudding, hot out of the oven and it was great on a chilly winter night! It may have been better with hot custard instead of ice-cream in the winter time? The service had always been excellent, and their little daughter is very friendly and extremely cute. I would come back with friends and family, as the prices are very reasonable for the amount of food that you get. =)

26/05/2012First time at this restaurant. I had read a few reviews which were generally good and went with an open mind. I found the atmosphere warm and friendly. Our waitress was charming and knew the menu and how the food was prepared. The food itself was excellent – I had a sardine based starter which was really moreish and a steak with my wife stealing half my entree then having a pasta dish. Really nice. They charge a minimal price for corkage and I took a nice red that suited the food. Would highly recommend for couples / to four. Was in two minds as to 4 or 5 stars

24/05/2012I held a baby shower for a dear friend of mine and in total there was 5 of us who enjoyed the food! the company of management and staff who helped us throughout the night to make it an enjoyable one for the mother-to-be, myself and friends. Very nice food although we only had the entrees and dessert we were all very full
delicious! would definitely RECOMMEND! & definitely be back!!
Thank you very very much for giving us all a memorable and enjoyable night!!
the mother-to-be was very impressed!!!! and so were my friends! Thank you for also helping me and doing all you can to make us feel comfortable!
Also to the negative comment of Josephine. I am unsure to why you believe it was dirty. If you ask me.. my guest and I would disagree.

23/05/2012Love this place. Went for the hi-tea – the selection of sweet and savoury treats was impressive. Range of tea flavours was awesome. Really good service. Nice and cosy ambience (though it was a bit too dark for my liking) – but I guess it goes with the theme.
Make sure u check out the restrooms – very unique!

21/05/2012Dropped into the Macs bar after work on Thursday night. It was fairly busy and they had a guy playing on a guitar, I was very happy to see that they now have pizzas. Although they only seemed to have a few available, the waiter said there will be more available next month. Make sure you try them out.

21/05/2012I am rating it as Woohoo as for the price and what’s been laid you cannot fault it It is not silver service and not fine dining but price is also so unbelievable and you cannot fault the ambiance – siting is perfect quiet good restaurant environment/sitting for cafe price and in CBD location – what more can we ask for. New World now the block for wine. They are fully licenced but if you ask nicely might be able to byo for a Small corkerage Been there numerous time for lunch and have taken large corporate groups for special occassions – price charged is so unbelievable that adding a few special entre items (ie crab claw) to make the meal special is still soooo cheap – plus BYO all good Been there for dinner too with Asian Hong Kong Chinese guest and again it is sooo reasonable and OK would not rave too much but it is still soo good and passable against other fully licensed restaurant charging 3 x times the price

17/05/2012“Atmosphere plus great food, great staff and great beers !!”” Went the first time to Brewery on a friend’s recommendation one month ago. Clearly a place where the locals like to hang out. Since I have been here many times so felt it was about time I placed a review! Last time, went on a Saturday night, there was a good buzz as usual. Good band as well to dance! Excellent food, a good new menu to match with their very unique home brew beers (Custom 69, my favorite, an Indian pale). Tried the veggie platter, to share with my boyfriend. Yummy yummy (full of colour and flavour), then tried their special of the day, a slow cooked lamb shank casserole (with lamb consommé jelly). Was very tasty and with a nice presentation for a “pub food”, really really surprise! I’m generally crazy with sweet and desert… I was in paradise! Tried the caramel, chocolate and peppermint tart, now just want to go back at the brewery for this desert! Matched that with a Black Rose (stout plenty of body and roasty malt flavours).Yummmmmm! Would definitely recommend for a group of friends, cool place to chill with good ol’ buddies, for dinner, snack or just beers !!!

17/05/2012Dined here on a quiet Monday night. Was cosy and didn’t mind the lack of crowds, could hear each other talk! (Know it’s very busy the rest of the week!) Had nice, efficient yet unobtrusive service from the brunette waitress who served us (Sorry, didn’t get your name!), And the meals were tasty, well cooked and large servings! Nice to go out in the neighbourhood on an ‘off’ night and find something like this, Thanks!

16/05/2012Firstly, let me say the beer selection here is great and the service good, it’s just a shame the meals aren’t up to scratch! I ordered the gourmet burger (seasoned chicken breast, bacon, lettuce, tomato, cucumber, brie and plum sauce) with fries expecting something fresh, grilled and delicious, but what came out was a small chicken breast seasoned like it should have been grilled but it was deep fried (and tasted it!), two pieces of stale bread, bacon so deep fried it was unbendable and a pile of tasteless chips. Not exactly gourmet! My partner ordered the drunken steak which was cooked exactly to his liking and very tender, but smothered in so much sauce you couldn’t taste the meat (normally he is a sauce monger..) to their credit the sauce was very nice. I couldn’t finish my meal despite still being hungry as it was so greasy, and even my partner couldn’t finish my chips due to the same reason which is saying something! If you’re after big greasy pub meals then this will be your cup of tea, but for $22 odd a meal, I would have expected better quality food, Mad Dogs and Englishmen and the British Isle Inn do bistro pub dining really well, just a shame Cardrona wasn’t on par.

16/05/2012Fantastic decor with a warm and inviting dining room. The service is very engaging and friendly without being over bearing. The menu has some interesting selections if you are feeling adventurous. If you aren’t the Seared Ostrich entree and Jerk Spiced Pork Belly mains are very good. We did try the Roquefort, Chocolate & Whisky dessert and for us it did not really work. Extensive wine selection. Worth making a booking.

16/05/2012I’ll have to agree with a lot of people here, I went to mexican cafe for dinner with a few of my friends, the atmosphere and cocktails were good, but the service wasnt good- meals took too long and waitresses seemed very impatient and unfriendly. The food was terrible, definately not worth the $23 dollars I spent! There is a lot of potential for this place though

16/05/2012Simply BRILLIANT! Went for the Tuesday Test Kitchen with a group of friends. Didn’t quite know what to expect but was extremely happy with the quality of food and service. The 8-course degustation menu was truly artistic! The flavour combinations were out of the world. The service was fantastic too. We had a vegetarian at the table, however they seamlessly catered to that. Overall the evening was perfect! Will surely go back.

15/05/2012Went to Coco’s Cantina thanks to references from friends and noting it won an award in the Metro Top 50 restaurants, and was pleasantly satisfied. The table wait wasn’t too bad although we got there early. The food was great and the service fantastic. We had the platter to start which was ample and tasty, and I had the steak for main (as usual) – it was cooked blue to my liking and had a great flavour. They allowed me to swap out my potatoes, and instead of giving me something bore-factor they gave me roast carrots and beets – so yummy! Would definitely go back. Not too pricey either.

15/05/2012I went to GPK Ponsonby yesterday with clients for a business lunch and had an extremely uncomfortable lunch and dining experience. We were seated next to the kitchen when the Manager walked passed our table started yelling at the chef and abusing him about a meal he was not happy with for all to hear. We relocated to the bar area to continue our discussions where the Manager continued his bad form and yelled out “am i going to get some service here”. GPK had an up market reputation an appealed as the right venue to have a lunch / business meeting , however as a result of lack of consideration for this managers towards his lunch cliental, i will never go to this restaurant again.

13/05/2012Read the reviews and thought sweet! Special anniversary dinner for us at a silver service restaurant. Our previous visits have always been top class. Last night we could not fault the food and strong compliments to the chef and team on superbly cooked and presented dishes. Unfortunately we didnt think the service matched the 5 star food. Host was very casually dressed and at first we thought he was a customer, we were shown to our table and a waitress was pointed out to us. Friendly but not attentive, plates hurriedly placed on table, dirty plates sat for ages and we were given two different menus. It just wasn’t as good as previous visits and equal to the many casual restaurants we frequent. Sort of spoilt the ‘ special’ factor of the food. Service did not reflect the quality of food or the price $300 for two ( 3 courses and a glass of wine)
