26/05/2012As many of the other reviews have mentioned, the manger is very unpleasant and lacks any customer service skills, I am not quite sure why she has been there for so many years!!! My family and I have actually nick-named her dragon lady as she is always extremely rude and once watch my family and I eat for most of the meal, which made it very awkward to say the least… I would not return as I do, if it was not for the fact that the food is very good, especially their yum cha dumplings! The parking can be a bit annoying sometimes though, due to its location.

26/05/2012Quite disappointing as the yum char food is really quite good but the service is definitely lacking!!! Have been here 3 times, and have been over charged 2 out of those 3 times! The first time, I didn’t say anything and paid, but the second time I corrected him and the manager just replied “I guess you and I have different ideas”…umm what??? So ALWAYS calculate what you order before going to the counter or you will get ripped off! (-) Horrible manager who tries to overcharge you almost every time!!! And then pretends that you are wrong when you correct him. (-) Some of the waiting staff do not know any English which can be hard to order if you do not have a Chinese person in your dining party. (-) On the more pricey side for Yum Cha food. (+) The waiting staff do seem to be quite polite and helpful (+) Good food, my favourite is the Durian mochi- but be warned it is not for everyone!!!

26/05/2012Came here with a voucher for 2 mains and 2 wines. Bit disappointed to find out that my partner and I were not allowed to swap our wines with soft drinks, as we both did not drink alcohol at all! Surely the soft drinks would have been cheaper for them….?? Made it feel like the voucher was a bit wasted. On the plus side, the curry was a decent size and nice and creamy and the pad thai was good as well. The decor was quite night nice with a little waterfall and plants around the dining area.

26/05/2012I would say this is the best Japanese restaurant in Auckland that I have been to. The food is always beautiful, and the prices are very reasonable. The garlic udon noodles and the pork katsu are personal favourites. The staff are always very polite and yell out thank you when you leave, which is very cute. The only one downside would be that the food does not come out at the same time, which can make for awkward dining sometimes. It is busy, so I would recommend bookings!

25/05/2012Amazing flavours! Had heard about this place from other reviews and tried it tonight, and we were not disappointed. The stingray in assam sauce and the satay was fantastic for the chicken skewers as a starter. We also ordered beef rendang which was pretty good. Had very friendly service too.

25/05/2012I would highly recommend the yum char experience here! The staff are very friendly and the food is amazing! I went with a group from work for lunch and everyone had a really great time
I’ve been for dinner before as well which is great. Our favourite dish was the peking duck, if you haven’t had it you haven’t lived! It is that good!

25/05/2012Went to Tomo on 24 May 2012 with a voucher for a set meal for two people. The meals were divine – the sashimi was fresh, the flavours of our teriyaki chicken and chicken katsu mains were outstanding, and the portions were generous. Loved the presentation of the food. The service was good (one waitress in particular was lovely – she’s a young lady who wears spectacles and has long hair). My friend also tried the vegetable tempura and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Highly recommended

23/05/2012Slightly above average in terms of taste, but could do better with quantity for the price that you pay. Good service though.

23/05/2012Fantastic food!We just bought a grab one voucher and thought we would try once. But we are very certain that we will always go there. They use very fresh vegetable. You can feel the freshness. It’s totally different to a typical Chinese takeaway. The food is just BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!Very friendly staff and a great service.

23/05/2012Went there for a grabone deal I bought last night, its just down the road from Kingsland next to Morningside railway station. Being a Kingslander I never knew it was there but it is new and I do drive around in a daze.
Food was surprising good quality, at first I thought it may be like one of those noodle fanchises but no fear, the food is light years ahead of those.
I like curries especially at this cold time of year, I never had one like it. The beef was melt in your mouth and the portion size was literally double what you get elsewhere and for only $13. We ordered 1 mussaman curry and 2 rice and it fed both of us along with a serving of satay skewers which were also large. None of this 2-3 thin pieces of flattened out chicken but the actual whole tenderloin.
An added bonus is that we like our food very hot and virtually all restaurants never make it hot enough for us. The chef actually showed us how much chili she was going to put in and that was 2 heaped teaspoons of fresh cut chili which for the very first time ever was at the right level of spiciness that my wife and I love. No having to add extra at home. Thanks for that
A much needed addition to the Kingsland area in terms of Asian takeaways and at fantastic prices. Go !!!

22/05/2012I regret that I didn’t read the reviews for this restaurant before purchasing my Grab One voucher! The experience started off badly and continued. I emailed as requested to book a table for myself and my partner but 24 hrs later still hadn’t received a reply. I phoned and the female who answered the phone was quite abrupt, refused to book the table for me and asked me to book on a different email address. Eventually they confirmed my booking by text message. Two days later we went for dinner, the waiter was obviously new and very inexperienced. We ordered the mixed starters which arrived promptly and were quite tasty. We waited over half an hour for our main courses, we then realised they had been served to the neighboring table and the customers there poked and prodded the dishes for several minutes before asking the waiter if they were their order or not. To our astonishment the waiter then transferred the dishes onto our table, we then complained and the dishes returned to the kitchen. When we did eventually get to eat our food the curry was a thick gloopy consistency, pretty tasteless. The other dishes were no better. The service was miserable and the staff seemed more interested in getting the takeaway orders out on time than giving any attention to their diners. We have eaten in many Thai restaurants all around the world and we would consider this to be the worst Thai meal we have ever had. We would never recommend this restaurant to anyone! Zero stars should be awarded!

21/05/2012I am rating it as Woohoo as for the price and what’s been laid you cannot fault it It is not silver service and not fine dining but price is also so unbelievable and you cannot fault the ambiance – siting is perfect quiet good restaurant environment/sitting for cafe price and in CBD location – what more can we ask for. New World now the block for wine. They are fully licenced but if you ask nicely might be able to byo for a Small corkerage Been there numerous time for lunch and have taken large corporate groups for special occassions – price charged is so unbelievable that adding a few special entre items (ie crab claw) to make the meal special is still soooo cheap – plus BYO all good Been there for dinner too with Asian Hong Kong Chinese guest and again it is sooo reasonable and OK would not rave too much but it is still soo good and passable against other fully licensed restaurant charging 3 x times the price

20/05/2012Have been here many times over the past few years and thoroughly recommend it. Went again last week probably 6 months since my last visit with a group of old mates – this is the best way to enjoy it because you can order a wide range of dishes. The service is really assured – the staff seem to know exactly how to fit in with the mood of your group and they enhance the experience really well. Oh…and make sure you have a pitcher of Tiger beer for the table…sensational. The way you can mix up your dishes from a range of regions is great – really recommend the firecracker chicken, beef rendang and the roti breads are just exceptional. Great fun for a night out with friends.

20/05/2012My family dines at BOWZ occasionally and have never been disappointed. The food is fabulous, the service excellent and the owner/chef – Ken cooks all the meals to perfection. All the mains arrive simultaneously and cooked exactly as requested. Their dinner set menus are good value and lunch set menu is even better. It is great food cooked exceptionally well and not overly expensive.

20/05/2012This is hands down the best Malaysian food I have had in NZ. We have been here twice now. First time had Assam fish and Aubergine stuffed with a prawn mix. Probably too much food for two people, but we ate it anyway. But the last time we went we had Nestum prawns and Beef Rendang, and this was the BEST. The Rendang is so flavoursome and delicious, the Nestum prawns were big, juicy and delicious! And the plus side is the service is brilliant, very attentive. We will definately be back. I’m feeling hungry now just thinking about the Rendang! YUM!!!
