Avondale
27/05/2012We were quite excited about placing our first order at Curry King after reading all the rave reviews on Menu Mania “best Indian in Auckland” etc. Especially as there is really little to no choice when it comes to good takeaway food in the Avondale area, unless of course you like bad fish and chips. We were also pleased to to hear that they deliver. Bonus! Anyway – our food came roughly on time but was a disappointment. The mango chicken was super sweet with loads of sauce and very little meat. The lamb saagwala was sightly better but also swimming in sauce with very little meat. Both dishes were lacking in that flavour punch you expect from a good curry. Also our naan bread was uninspired with some of the dough still looking uncooked. Wont be ordering again unfortunately. Back to the drawing board I’m afraid.

26/05/2012I just went there for dinner and it was the worst place. It was a-buffet and there was 3 options. out of the six tables of people it continuously ran out. The menu for Saturday was not any of the food served and my 3 year old refused to eat the rice, which she usually loves. We left and went to the kfc next door for dinner because we were still hungry. There was not even a sign for the toilet, so you had to ask where it was.

25/05/2012Amazing flavours! Had heard about this place from other reviews and tried it tonight, and we were not disappointed. The stingray in assam sauce and the satay was fantastic for the chicken skewers as a starter. We also ordered beef rendang which was pretty good. Had very friendly service too.

Mt Wellington
23/05/2012Hello We have been in this restaurant earlier also but in different branch and we visited first time Mt. Wellington branch first time on special occasion on my birthday. We booked our table in advance and we reached over there around 10pm it was so silent and only few of guests were there. At the time of first order they were asking for last order as well which is annoying. After sometime they stopped the music as well. But moreover, we felt very bad when manager came to us and asking for doing vaccum at other side. OMG, it’s limit We are very much disappointed with the service also. When we were asking for complimentary onion they said NO and then manager offer us to give in $3 instead of $5 when we decided to have it and at the time of billing they were asking to pay $5. Which is very bad impact on us We will never ever go to any Punjabi Dhaba now onwards. And also suggest you to not go there Regards, Donika

20/05/2012Have been here many times over the past few years and thoroughly recommend it. Went again last week probably 6 months since my last visit with a group of old mates – this is the best way to enjoy it because you can order a wide range of dishes. The service is really assured – the staff seem to know exactly how to fit in with the mood of your group and they enhance the experience really well. Oh…and make sure you have a pitcher of Tiger beer for the table…sensational. The way you can mix up your dishes from a range of regions is great – really recommend the firecracker chicken, beef rendang and the roti breads are just exceptional. Great fun for a night out with friends.

19/05/2012Well after a longtime we had the best Indian food, with exact indian taste and excellent service. First we entered and got greeted well, then the service was good and fast. The wine list is good as well and what I loved was the Indian cocktails that they make. Well done guys keep it up

18/05/2012Urban turban, a fantastic menu, but boy were we disappointed. Our starter was like a breakfast cereal, sugar puffs with spice. Our garlic bread had so much garlic on we couldn’t eat it. The lamb curry was tough and sad in a watery grave. The only thing I can say good about the place was that the German waitress was great. I told her when I left it was the worst Indian meal I had ever had and she said they like to put a twist on things. This restaurant should take the twist out and serve real Indian food. They need a make over by Gordon Ramsey. Never again.

16/05/2012A friend of mine suggested the place to me, said the “food was nice”. I came with two friends of mine and had a delicious meal. the waiter warmly welcomed us, gave us choices (even when asking for water), recommended dishes, suggested wine (presented for tasting), but had no answers when we asked him if he could turn the heaters on!!! I asked him to call for the manager, guess what, he turned out to be the one! Poor lad! All the things were good, if i were to give marks out of 10, his service would score 10, food might score 11 or 12 (very delicious), music 10, ambiance 7 (need to work out on the stains on the chairs); but most importantly dining 2 or 3 (how can you expect me to wear my overcoat and beanie on while eating my food, certainly NO!!). I would definitely come again but of course not to dine in but only for a takeaway and probably enjoy my wine at my heated apartment.

13/05/2012Ordered a delivery from them tonight – curry was yummy – but was only midly warm when we received it as the delivery guy couldn’t find our apartment… the salad was sadly pretty inedible but will cook up as a stir fry tomorrow so no love lost. I’m sure if we had dined in the food would be lovely – they just need a GPS.

13/05/2012We went to Satya about two years ago and it blew us away. We went today and it was run-down and dirty. The tables were greasy and pulling your own plastic chair in left greasy fingers. The butter chicken was so brown sugary that our girls loved it. The special dry fish curry was not Terakihi as described by the chief – it had the consistency of steak and must have been wahoo (old wahoo judging by the strong “on the off-side” of fresh flavour). The final blow came when paying – two people equals $8 corkage! Dirty and run-down yet we parted with Parnell cuisine money. No longer can recommend! It used to be that they brought colouring pencils for kids and gave them a gift – now – nothing. We had to ask for plates and wine glasses but paid dearly for the dirty glass privilege!

12/05/2012Thank you, Rajini, our waitress, for good service. You were very attentive to ensuring we enjoyed our meal, and showed good humour! Complimentary Poppodoms were soon delivered to our table on our arrival. Helpful recommendations were made about complementary dishes for the table. The dishes were plentiful and good value. The rice unfortunately was not very hot. Notwithstanding this, we shall return.

12/05/2012Been searching for the perfect Indian restaurant from kaitaia to bluff in invercargill. I’ve tried few of them but I can’t find the real indian taste like the ones I’ve patronaged when I was still living in Dubai. My friend/colleague from Kerala told me about Paradise. Men, I thought I found kerala and Dubai in Sandringham. The dishes are not made for the kiwi tongue (as most indian resto in NZ, sweet and nothing but sweet briyani…yuck!), but Paradise has that natural indian taste, reasonable price and excellent staff and patrons. It’s superb, totally highly recommended. I don’t mind travelling several kilometers to come to Sandringham…it’s worth it with Paradise resto.
