09/02/2012I had a party platter for my office. Everyone liked the sushi. So fresh, tasty, light size…. Not funky style but genuine sushi. The lady made nice presentation of sushi on her plate and was so beautiful. It is lovely. The shop looks like a cafe and very clean, beautiful. Pretty red awning at front and white inside. Plenty of parking being light next public car park and some more off street parking. I recommend the sushi to everybody. Try it!

07/02/2012Have been to kura a couple of times now. Such a cool place to dine. You can book and it is a bit lighter than Tanukis Cave which is nice. It’s not the cheapest option but there is heaps of food and it is super fresh and yum so definitely still value for money. Try it.

06/02/2012The sushi on the belt looks as if they have been there since the night before. The sashimi are not fresh either. The salmons are clearly low grade ones that small cheap japanese takeaway shops use. The waiters are friendly and helpful though.

05/02/2012Sushi rice is fine. Some seafood isn’t fresh. Best idea is to go dine with someone gifted sharp eyes or keep on ordering salmon stuff.

05/02/2012Rice is okay. it shouldn’t fail since they have that sushi making machine. The miso and greentea which can be refilled are kinda bland. Ordered heaps of salmon and satisfied with the quality.

31/01/2012Shocking customer service, manager (Let’s call him Yung-Ming) advised ” we don’t have enough food and no take away box available.” Criticized customer as “useless” repeatedly. Absolutely unbelievable customer service as a whole team, terribly overpriced, poor quality and quantity for its cost. In the end I found out that they are closing the business and today is their last day …… what else can I say?

30/01/2012Staff and service was good. But the food wasn’t =(. Tasteless sushi, quite bland. I can make better sushis. I’m vegetarian so I tried all the vegetarian sushis and they were not up to standard. The sushi rice didn’t taste fresh and it was cooked with too much water. There really wasn’t a sugar-vinegar ratio in the sushi rice too because …they probably held back and just used few drops. In terms of ambience it was …OK…..and I suspect the people working there are Korean and not Japanese not that it matters…just an observation!!

28/01/2012Love it. The best fresh & delicious japanese I have found for a cheap meal in the city. Totally worth the shabby dining-in experience

28/01/2012Service here is shocking and food standards terrible. If i could give 0 stars I would! Rang up yesterday to see if I could order some food in advance as my husband is ill and we wanted a quick dinner. The waitress put me on hold for 5mins and then came back on the phone and said that because they were very busy I just had to come in at the time she managed to “squeeze” me into. So you can imagine my surprise when we showed up and the restaurant was empty bar 2 tables of people who looked like they were close to finishing their meal. Even though we were pretty much the only ones there the food still took 30 mins to arrive and in the meantime the last patron’s dishes remained uncleared from the table next to us the whole time! When the food finally arrived my husband’s chicken ( the only thing on the menu) was cold, the miso soup tasted like dish water and the portions miserable. I definitely won’t be coming back here again. If you’re looking for Japanese food , go down the road and you’ll find better food and service at cheaper prices.

27/01/2012This was a terrible Japanese restaurant. When we first got there they seemed to have lost our booking then when we were seated they told us that there was no beef, pork or fish available at the moment. Really? A restaurant with only chicken? Seriously, just go to the supermarket! We ordered two dinner boxes, a sashimi sushi set, mori soba and a mixed tempura set. All of these dishes were underwhelming. The dinner boxes were something you would expect at a Japanese takeaway place in a food court. The sashimi was small and stingy, and they didn’t have any Japanese beer either which amazed us! Neither could you order ice green tea which is usually a stable in a Japanese restaurant. And don’t even get me started on the bathroom, it was like a dark broom closet! All in all, we were very disappointed and will not be visiting this place again.

26/01/2012I went to this restaurant recently and would certainly not go there again. I cannot say the sushi was of bad quality because it was not. The Sushi was average, but nothing close to fresh, nothing that melts in your mouth. My utter disappointment was the chicken don buri. Although cheap, the worst quality I’ve ever had. The rice was stick and the chicken of very, very, poor quality. I cannot describe here how horrible it was. I left all of my plate and only did not demand a refund because I was in the biggest rush. I recommend that if you are in the area and are on the lookout for a good don buri, take your time and go to Renkon K rd. I know, that although I am always very close to Banzai Sushi, I will NEVER be returning there again. I’d much rather stay hungry.

26/01/2012Freshest sashimi I have ever had, although the atmosphere was a little dry. We went because we had bought a coupon for a sashimi boat for two and a bottle of wine. The sashimi was a lot smaller than the picture on the coupon, and they had run out of red wine. Bar and waiting was a little inefficient, possibly because they are inexperienced? Change the atmosphere to make it feel warmer, and polish up the service and it will be a winner, but because of the above glitches I only give it three stars. Maybe in a year’s time it will get four?

23/01/2012Fresh, beautiful sushi. Friendly, chatty staff. The food is so full of flavour. There are unique styles of sushi here, and quite a few deep-fried filling options, but I can always find enough ‘traditional’ pieces to keep my more conservative salmon-loving tastebuds happy.
Parking up the road on Remuera Rd just past ‘Dick Smith’, meant I had a 2 or 3 minute stroll in the sunshine to get there – so parking at lunchtime is fairly handy & free… but watch out for the Clearway signs after 4pm.

17/01/2012Great service, wonderful food. Overall…fantastic. The homemade gyoza (dumplings) were excellent. Very authentic, lovely presentation. Small place only 4 four tops and about 6 two tops. Great selection of sake. Super fresh! Highly recommend. Nice kids menu as well.

13/01/2012Have been to Sake Bar Nippon several times and it never disappoints. The first time was 4 years ago and every time since the food has been lovely. I really enjoy the tapas style of getting loads of dishes for every one to try. The service is quick and there is always a great atmosphere. Great place to catch up with friends.

12/01/2012Worst Japanese place I’d ever been to in Auckland. The service was bad and the dishes we had were just tasteless deep fried junk. We just wished we’d gone to Karin instead.. (same street, a block away). Or Tanuki’s cave, Ken Yakitori, Daikoku etc. anything but that place…

12/01/2012Food was exceptional, and we were greeted warmly when we arrived. We had a Grabone voucher and unlike some other restaurants we have eaten with vouchers before this was not a problem for them and we were still treated well. Only complaint was with the waiting service, very slow to get any drinks and no follow up for drinks service. We ended up going up to the bar ourselves. If they can sort the service out then this will be a 5 star … some of the best Japanese food I have eaten in NZ.
