19/05/2013this place is now my go to vegetarian eating house in the city. If your a vegetarian you know there are not a lot of options in the CBD so am happy to have discovered Sunflower. Staff are really sweet and helpful, food has great flavours and lots of veges and lots of variety. Prices are very reasonable too.I hope they do very well and continue be around for a long time.

Parnell
15/05/2013Beautiful setting with a lovely view of the city lights and an interesting menu with a blend of ethnic cultures. Not as ridiculously pricey as some restaurants in Parnell but unfortunately the food is a little bland for my liking like the previous review. This is a good place for an intimate dinner or girls’ night out.

15/05/2013First visit for lunch was nice, had drunken spicy noodles and panang curry, although portions were on the small side. However went back for a visit for dinner and the food was very disappointing. Dishes were very small for the price and worst of all the “Paradise” fish was not fresh. Although we ordered from the speciality dishes, none of them were outstanding, in fact were below average. Ordered satay entree, Paradise fish, cashew stir fry, massaman curry, spicy basil stir fry between 5 people as this number of dishes was advised as a possible set menu for a larger function that we were planning for, but the amount of food was barely sufficient and we had to have a second dinner elsewhere. Staff were friendly but the waitress had poor English and was not able to take our order properly. After complaining about the fish not being fresh, nothing was offered and we were given the full bill. Very disappointing given that we were intending to use the restaurant for a large function when we were trying out the dinner.

13/05/2013I bought a voucher for this restaurant, my partner and I went after hearing great things. The staff were rude and ordered us instead of asking us to hand over our voucher, to follow ‘that man’ to be seated, and when asking for a bottle of sav we got told we only have a choice of white wine or red wine. Staff obviously need a brush up on what the types of wine are. The starters tasted dry and tasteless like supermarket bought puffs and spring rolls. I ordered the Red curry with tofu. The dish was bland and quite a slop, the tofu had not been pre cooked, tasted as though it had been thrown into the curry raw upon serving. We sat waiting for ages not being served while other tables that arrived after us had their orders taken already. Only one place had a serviette and cutlery, we had to ask after out mains were delivered for the extra set. We left with out mains half eaten and went to get something to eat on the way home. Will definitely not be returning again.

12/05/2013My husband and I went to Mekong-Neua this evening. This was the worst dining experience we have ever had. After one and a half hours we were still without food. It took 45 minutes to get a glass of wine. There were four other groups in the part of the restaurant that we were in and each table was complaining to the waiting staff asking when there food was coming. One of the tables had three small children and they were very angry and rightly so. They started screaming at the staff that they had been there two hours and still had not had their main course. We could see we would have been waiting at least another hour so paid for our drinks and left. The staff were arguing among themselves. Our waitress told us it was her first night and there were no systems in place. It was a disaster and I would recommend not visiting the restaurant. They have serious issues to sort out.

12/05/2013Their food is amazing! But their service is really bad. They really need to work on their timing. Having been kept waiting for over an hour once I heavily disapprove. I have also been kept waiting long periods more than once. Their food may be excellent but I don’t think service should be a compromise

10/05/2013Food was nice, BUT The restaurant was very cold, especially by the windows. The service was practically non-existent. After the orders were taken and food served, no further contact with the staff, no “do you want another drink, no do you want desert, no do you want coffee” they just leaned against the wall and talked. Will not go back.

09/05/2013We went there few months ago. One of my favourite restaurants, but there is some major issue as well I need to mention. Restaurant is rather crowded and badly set-out and music is very noisy!!!!!! We need to literally yell to each other for normal talking. I don’t know why they put music so loud! The wooden seats are uncomfortable if you are there for bit long time. Cost is on the average side for Auckland and the food is value for money considering the quality and presentation.

08/05/2013I meant to write this a while ago but didn’t get around to it. I took a group of 5 to MooChowChow for the first time a few weeks ago and we had great service. When we asked for food recommendations we were given sound advice. We had a bit of a laugh, and an entertaining time with our waiters. The food was absolutely delicious! We didn’t order 1 bad dish. The slow cooked beef rib was everyone’s favourite and I loved the duck. I will definitely go again and take friends.

06/05/2013We’d been here 2 years previously and had a good time and quite authentic food and when we saw the deal voucher we got it We used MenuMania to make a booking however we received no confirmation of booking from the restaurant. We called to make a booking in the end. It was the service that was disappointing (especially having read a good review previously about how good the service was from Feb 2013). We had been seated for 30 minutes and no one had come to take our order. We had to advise someone who was walking past that we were ready for someone to take our order. It took 15 minutes for the appetizers to arrive. They weren’t the best deepfried appetizers. Quite heavily deepfried and stodgy. Once that was finished there was a 25 minute wait between the appetizers and the mains. The mains were overall average but what was reassuring was that it wasn’t a westernized version of thai food. While this wait time was mentioned at the end when payment was being discussed a perfunctory sorry for the wait time was the only apology or explanation offered. Sadly we’ll be less keen to buy a voucher again.

Remuera
04/05/2013My husband and I LOVE this place! We used to live in Remuera so it was our local but now we have moved to Ellerslie but still make the trek up to Jasmine Rice as it continues to be our favourite place to get the best, reasonably priced Thai food. Particularly like the Pad Thai!

04/05/2013Absolutely appalled. To start with our bottle of wine was plonked on our table for us to open and serve ourselves. The mixed entree was dry, tasteless and served with bottled sweet chilli sauce. The mains, both stirfry….beef and duck were appalling. The duck had been burned and the dish tasted of it. The beef, thinly sliced and well soaked in baking soda to tenderise. Apart from the difference in taste of the sauces, the dishes looked the same and the sauce base was the same. It looked and tasted like cheap takeaway food. We only ate half our meals as they just weren’t enticing. We asked the female waitress to package them and we would take them home. Her attitude left a lot to be desired. She stomped off in a huff and returned, almost throwing the plastic containers at us. We were then told we had to pack them ourselves. Don’t ever bother going to this place, an insult to Thai food and and insult to the patrons.

03/05/2013Been here three times so far. Such great food – fresh, healthy but also satisfyingly filling. The Teriyaki Udon, Pad Thai, Black Bean Udon and Laksa are all super tasty… and the staff are so friendly.

03/05/2013Read the good reviews and decided to get the vegetarian takeaway. Yellow curry had too much coconut milk and raw eggplant. Tofu was very chewy and didn’t seem to be fresh in all the dishes I ordered i.e. Veg fried rice, stir fried veg with cashews and yellow curry. For the price I paid the quality of food was very poor.

03/05/2013We got takeaways from the Mt Eden store, I thought it was pretty reasonably priced and was ready within 20 mins, got it home and the packaging was nice… the disappointment came when we got to the food. The entree’s weren’t bad – chicken tom yum soup that was not too bad but not very authentic – you could tell it was made from a cube and the chicken satays were pretty good but the mains were a real let down. I had the chicken larb and it just really lacked flavour and zest – I had to add fish sauce, lime juice and chilli at home to make it nicer. My boyfriend got the spicy thai noodles and they were tasteless as well. We’ll probably give them one last try as they are close, good service and well priced – hopefully just a bad night in the kitchen.

02/05/2013I absolutely LOVED it, the scenery is just amazing!! Went with a group of 8-10 earlier this week and WOW. Entree’s were yummy and out super quick Mains were brilliant and they came out very quick as well. The staff remembered who ordered what and there were no mistakes made (I switched mine up a bit and asked for cashew nuts to be added and it was just as I had asked for) I will DEFINITELY be going back here…

01/05/2013I went here with a group of girls to start off a bachelorette party. The staff were so lovely! They didn’t mind us putting a few decorations on the table and they were extremely helpful and friendly. The food was yummy and big portions. They bought of wine coolers for our byo wine which was appreciated. Would defiantly recommend if wanting something cheap, cheerful and in that area =)
