05/02/2012I had tried a Beef Panang (Thai), it was good but if you had never tried the $99.00 Peking Duck, then you missed out on something fantastic. Forget fast foods, the thing you normally associate with “Chinese takeaways” and think “AUTHENTIC”, the preperation takes time but oh so worth it! The three course meal starting with a tofu soup for the first time I found interesting, now my mate finds it absolutely great…the crispy skin of the duck served seperately with pancakes a range of vegetables (I related it to sushi if one could dare) and three dipping sauces, I went for the hottest one…wonderful and after about three pancakes, I was seriously becoming full…the main dish, the duck itself…woah, my mate nearly choked because of a lack of patience. Seriously a dish of interesting tastes…this is the second time for me, worth a “Hundred”…recommend to all who think they know what it tastes like!

01/02/2012FOOD QUALITY: 4/5 PORTION SIZE: 4/5 SERVICE & AMBIENT: 5/5 VALUE FOR MONEY: 4/5 OVERALL: 4/5 Had chicken with cashew nuts. The vegetables could have been more versatile instead of regular frozen veg – broccoli, cauliflower, carrot. Meat was less firm than what I’m used to but tasted great nonetheless. For $8 lunch the portion was big enough, couldn’t eat much more than was on my plate and have been reasonably full for quite some time afterwards. The staff is friendly and gladly answer questions. The restaurant was empty and more or less quiet. Would appreciate a glass or a bottle of water on the side. Otherwise, great value for money. Will definitely come for lunch again, also can’t wait to try fried banana with ice cream.

01/02/2012FOOD QUALITY: 4/5 PORTION SIZE: 3/5 SERVICE & AMBIENT: 3/5 VALUE FOR MONEY: 4/5 OVERALL: 4/5 I give Wang Gok 4 stars as it seems to be the best Asian restaurant in town. That should tell you a lot about the general low quality of the food on offer in restaurants across the town seeing that at least half of the restaurants are offering asian food. Back to Wang Gok, the waitress was quite happy to explain a few things and answered all our queries constructively. I did miss a bottle of water at lunchtime though. The kitchen is close, so you can hear when they’re preparing your food, which is a good thing in my opinion – that way you know it’ll be a fresh meal. It did bother me when a bunch of Chinese people rushed into the restaurant and started talking loudly all over. The meals were medium sized portions, nothing generous. The chicken with mushrooms I ordered tasted very good, and it actually reminded me of premium quality Chinese restaurants you find across Europe. Next time I’ll ask for some extra vegetables as well, as apparently they’re willing to customise your meal should you wish something special. All in all, I’d say this is the best restaurant in town, period, especially with the reasonable prices they have.

27/01/2012One of the worst dining experience. We went to the restaurant as a flat (5 people) and each ordered a meal. Everyone else’s food came 25-30 minutes later but i had to wait for 90 minutes during which i ask the waiter several times about it. I ordered the salty fish tofu pot and it was incredibly bland. I dug in and found nothing but tofu, undercooked carrots and some cabbage. Very disappointing. The rice was obviously really old, cold and disgusting (Ironically, its an asian restaurant). I told the waiter that my food was bland and it lacked the salty fish that was promised on the menu. How he replied surprised us all – “just keep eating and it will be in there” in a very angry tone. Hearing that, i decided to present everything in the pot on my plate and told the same waiter to come back again. He said it was not his problem and walked away before i could say anything. The asian manager/owner was worse, she yelled at me when i told her about the rude staff and the bland food. Never going back there again.
