Standards have slipped of late, last visit the food was greasy and the portions were average, the staff had little time for us and we felt like a nuisance. We enquired what they cooked their food in a were told it was beef fat……whoa that was enough for our vegetarian guest to feel both sick and pretty put out, I mean beef fat and all that cholesterol in this day and age, come on guys get with it!

My Hubby and I went for brekkie this morning and really enjoyed it. The plates had been heated which we like and the brekkie was hot the way we like it as some places up here the breakfast is just warm and the plates are cold so well done to the staff. Will go back there again and will tell people about it.

Kerikeri

Big disappointment, I have been to most places in Paihia that have a breakfast menu and have just started to venture further to Kerikeri, well I ordered eggs Benedict w/bacon, waited1/2 an hour for it to turn up (I can understand if its busy and they have make the first batch of hollandaise sauce of the day) but not busy and the sauce was watery and lacked in flavour, the bacon looked if it had been cut free hand and in parts was 4-5 mm thick and very very tough, the bun/bread they used was extremely tough (I suggest they serve with steak knives if that is how it is meant to be) the stalk of the spinach/silver beet had been chopped 3/4 days previous to cooking and the dark brown/black ends should have been trimmed off prior to getting to my table, I don’t normally use salt and pepper but when I found a table with them I got up and brought them to get some flavour on what I did eat. I know it sounds harsh but they definitely need to hire someone who knows how to cook for a cafe, this was the worst breakfast I have paid for, I wouldn’t eat it all, so I ended up enjoying a sausage bought from a sausage sizzle outside The Warehouse in Waipapa
