27/05/2012Awesome food, the kind of food one would expect to pay top dollar for in a restaurant but instead one gets to pay reasonable prices and eat with your feet up in front of the telly. Highly recommended for those that appreciate good wholesome food and swift pleasant service.

25/05/2012During a visit to Hamilton on Tuesday 22nd May a friend offered to purchase our evening meal from your restaurant. I was so disgusted that I think it is a crime you are continued to be allowed to serve the Hamilton public. 1. The order took over an hour to arrive 2. It was highly overpriced. 3. It was almost warm 4. The incorrect desert order was delivered and when this was pointed out the correct order was refused delivery. In your defence the food could have been very nice if it had arrived in reasonable time and been hot. Rest assured you will never get my custom again and I will make it well known your abysmal and rude service

24/05/2012Our lunch at the Hydro was the worst service I have ever experienced anywhere. We waited an hour for our food despite not being warned there was any delay. When we complained to the owner/manager afterwards she was incredibly rude and full of excuses including that they were “busy”, that they “only have room for two staff in the kitchen”, that the “waitress should have told us there would be a delay”, etc. We witnessed numerous other customers complaining. Because she was so rude I asked herr to make amends for the fact that we had to wait an hour for our food (I have never done this before) at which point she became outright hostile and abusive towards me. She reluctantly gave us a 10% discount off the bill which amounted to $12! Also, the food was decidedly average and didn’t reflect at all how it was described on the menu. Don’t go there – give your money to someone who deserves it. How she is still in business I have no idea.

24/05/2012This is my “go to” place to host clients for lunch or simply catch up for a coffee. It is easy to find and has great parking. The service is very friendly and attentive, but not disruptive. The coffee is “the best” and the food menu is diverse, reasonable and yummy. Highly recommended

21/05/2012Delightful spot in the heart of Hamilton with possibly the best menu I have seen for ages! Great staff, great atmosphere and so so pretty! We had the platter selction, the food was fresh and tasty, the customer service faultless and the coffee was just right. Well done whoever thought of this concept – I will be back!

21/05/2012My most favourite restaurant in Hamilton, always get great service and a wonderful meal and a very reasonable price
Their lunch menu is also great value for money, a great place to meet up with family and friends for lunch or dinner. My favourite is the teriyaki chicken very filling.

19/05/2012OMG, my partner had tired legs from when we walked around checking which restaurant to eat at. Furnace was very busy and full & Keystone was fairly full and far too noisy. I decided to just go to Three Leg Frog and we walked into it not realising it’s actually a Western form of Chinese Restaurant. So we ordered and the Steiny Pure tasted nice and then the Chicken Satay sticks were hot but nice except for too much MSG in the peanut sauce. The staff were helpful and polite all during the service. Finally we got our mains but immediately I said to my partner ‘where are the Green & Red Capsicum that are meant to be in that dish?’ so we asked that of the waitress. They could remake the dish with Green Capsicum or else give us it for half price of the $21 original value so we accepted the discount as preferred. My $26 main Spicy Lamb in a Garlic Jus with Breadcrumbs and Onions was a basket of battered meat where it was more batter than meat and most pieces of meat you could clearly taste the animal fat in it. I went up to pay for the meal and to complain about my poor main. They must think we are too ignorant to know tastes of meat as the waitress tried to tell me the meat is always carefully trimmed so no fat would be on it and that the taste was probably the starch that mixed with oils etc. I’m not that dumb as I grew up on a farm where we ate lots of REAL meat and I know it’s no use complaining more to someone that can’t be honest by trying to deny facts by use of lies. I felt totally let down and what was a poor meal was made worse by such bad final service of a senior staff member at the till. We got a card where once we buy 5 meals within 6 months we could get a free beer or glass of wine. Wow how good when the meals here are a lot more expensive yet of a much poorer quality than most of the other Chinese restaurants around town. This is why you will never see Asian families dining at that restaurant.

19/05/2012Palate Restaurant has ranked as Hamilton’s finest for several years. The menu is always inventive and mouth watering and the recommended wine choice, by the glass, is always successful. The previous venue did not fit the standard of food. Now we have a newly refurbished suite of rooms with a large balcony overlooking the Waikato River. The ambiance is perfect. Elegant intimate, superbly comfortable with acoustics to match. The herb roasted rabbit with potato gnocchi, bacon, celeriac puree, fennel and toasted hazelnuts was a great choice of entree. Tender and multi-layered in taste and texture. For mains we chose honey spiced duck with kumara and coconut puree, citrus cous cous, orange salad and cointreau jus. Duck has always been a favourite, but perhaps this time it seemed a little too rich. However, the angus beef fillet with portobello mushroom, brioche and blue cheese pudding, braised wagyu ravioli and shallot puree was truly wonderful. With the first bite of the perfectly cooked steak I could relax and enjoy all the other flavours and textures. A symphony! An excellent wine list with more than usual opportunity to select wine by the glass. Although this newly sited restaurant has been running for less than a week, the staff knew their jobs and were perfectly capable of answering questions about both the food and wine menus.

17/05/2012They asked my friend who’s birthday it was, to leave because they thought she was drunk, but she was not she just has a unique way of dancing. The bouncer was way off and when I said this to Shenanigans they deleted me, Obviously they condone Prejudice as a way of business.

16/05/2012After strolling the streets last Tuesday night, Piccola Italia seems like a charming authentic Italian restaurant. I ordered the lamb shanks and my partner ordered the chicken & mushroom fettuccine. The waitress working that night was nice enough but wore tatty clothes, and the woman behind the counter who I assume was the manager was unwelcoming and also not dressed well. There was only one other diner in the restaurant who already had her meal, my partners fettuccine arrived and I was left waiting 10 minutes for my lamb shanks to arrive. The fettuccine had virtually no sauce, only a couple of chunks of overcooked dry chicken, and a sprinkle of fatty bacon bits. My lamb shank was well overcooked, it was dry and had an odd taste. The potato it was served with was worse than the packet stuff you get from the supermarket, and I thought the “veges” it was served with were a little odd considering they were chickpeas & cannellini beans. All in all it was ok service, poor quality food, certainly not authentic and overpriced for what we received. I left feeling sorely disappointed and wont be going back there again.

15/05/2012This place is brilliant!!!! We have a takeaway night once a week and take turns choosing where to go. But since trying Thai and Kai we no longer take turns chosing, it’s a no brainer, Thai and Kai every week from now on! The owners are really friendly, they’re fast and affordable, and the quality of food is amazing. If I could describe the food in four words it would be “Nom nom nom nom…”

14/05/2012We had dinner there on Saturday. We are new to “fine dining” experience. I found the staff very pleasant, linen napkins were placed on our laps by staff which I found funny but also made me feel quite special. We shared garlic bread entree to fill us up in case the meals were tiny which seems to be the norm in expensive restaurants I’ve googled. I had the pork belly which was yummy actually reminded me of a fancy boil up (pork and watercress) which I love. My husband had the fish which was simple and delicious, we had a dessert each. the chocolate delise and the brulie. They were really rich, the delise a chocoholics dream. We should have shared one desert. I thought the atmosphere and decor was fine due to candles and lighting to soften it.

13/05/2012Four of us dined here Saturday evening. The bruschetta and warm baguette with flavoured butters made for a good start but the mains let us down . One of us ordered the oysters and pronounced them “divine” but the three of us who ordered the fish – hapuka – were very disappointed. The fish was on the dry side and apart from the two scallops perched on the top completely overwhelmed by the amount of rice served with it.It had been described as a Thai red curry, but apart from a small amount of sauce in the corner, the plate was filled up with plain tasting rice. This may be nitpicking, but why is a restaurant serving out of season imported from America fresh asparagus, when there are wonderful winter veges around? However the blueberry and pomegranate clafoutis we all ordered for dessertdid go some way to redeemng our evening .Fresh out of the oven with ice cream – yum. Maybe the seafood chef was just having a bad night. No one enquired as to how our meals were, so we didn’t get the chance to tell them. Friendly staff.

13/05/2012What a cool place! I work in town and it’s so nice to have somewhere to go for lunch that isn’t the same old subway/sushi/bakery. I had a delicious spicy tomato (I think!?) soup which was delicious, and my colleagues frequently go here. Great concept, great location, great food!

13/05/2012Went here for brunch after buying a voucher on one of the deal websites- it was really underwhelming. Such a shame because the restaurant is so nice. The staff however are helpful, and lots of parking, but a bit out of the way for us anyway, just wanted to try something new. Breakfast was quite greasy and bland.
