Our lunch at the Hydro was the worst service I have ever experienced anywhere. We waited an hour for our food despite not being warned there was any delay. When we complained to the owner/manager afterwards she was incredibly rude and full of excuses including that they were “busy”, that they “only have room for two staff in the kitchen”, that the “waitress should have told us there would be a delay”, etc. We witnessed numerous other customers complaining. Because she was so rude I asked herr to make amends for the fact that we had to wait an hour for our food (I have never done this before) at which point she became outright hostile and abusive towards me. She reluctantly gave us a 10% discount off the bill which amounted to $12! Also, the food was decidedly average and didn’t reflect at all how it was described on the menu. Don’t go there – give your money to someone who deserves it. How she is still in business I have no idea.

This is my “go to” place to host clients for lunch or simply catch up for a coffee. It is easy to find and has great parking. The service is very friendly and attentive, but not disruptive. The coffee is “the best” and the food menu is diverse, reasonable and yummy. Highly recommended

Delightful spot in the heart of Hamilton with possibly the best menu I have seen for ages! Great staff, great atmosphere and so so pretty! We had the platter selction, the food was fresh and tasty, the customer service faultless and the coffee was just right. Well done whoever thought of this concept – I will be back!

We had dinner there on Saturday. We are new to “fine dining” experience. I found the staff very pleasant, linen napkins were placed on our laps by staff which I found funny but also made me feel quite special. We shared garlic bread entree to fill us up in case the meals were tiny which seems to be the norm in expensive restaurants I’ve googled. I had the pork belly which was yummy actually reminded me of a fancy boil up (pork and watercress) which I love. My husband had the fish which was simple and delicious, we had a dessert each. the chocolate delise and the brulie. They were really rich, the delise a chocoholics dream. We should have shared one desert. I thought the atmosphere and decor was fine due to candles and lighting to soften it.

Best cafe in nz. Great owners, top service, ALWAYS cheerful service, couldn’t get better. Lovely decor focusing on the history on early hamilton with lovely photographs. Excellence food safety awards are displayed on the walls and they have won yearly. Top Quality wholesome food, I am always satisfied after every meal. Best milk shakes, yummy food!!! Such a great place to eat which is why me and my family are regulars.

Great little cafe in Frankton – comfortable couches and semi private areas with child safe/friendly place space set Cafe Agora above many others. Food is great, generous portions and changing menu really appreciated. Coffee is excellent and as well you are contributing to local charities monthly and supporting a compassionate programme in Thailand helping to rescue girls sold into prostitution.

Amazing cafe, staff are always friendly and the food is beautiful. I am in love with their fantastic range of cabinet salads that are always packed full of flavor and very innovative. I cannot fault this cafe and always look forward to sharing brekie/lunch with friends there. Mmmm must go for lunch today!

The most SHOCKING service I’ve ever had by David (part owner) I was sitting with my Starbucks coffee with a friend who was eating a meal from the cafe and David came out and told me its very rude what I was doing and I should not be sitting at his cafe with my drink, he was pointing the finger at me telling me I had to leave, so I left my friend sitting there she couldn’t even finish her meal, I was in tears and he made a scene in front of all his customers, I was extremely embarrassed!!! I would say this is the worst customer service I have ever experienced! Would DEFIANTLY not recommend this cafe!!

The Food was good. But when you find a hair of some sort in your dessert and the chef/owner argues with you about it and takes no responsibility for it, and doesnt apologize untill you get sick of hearing his excuses and just pay and start walking out it ruins the whole experience. No matter how good the food is I will never return due to the service from the chef/owner.

Used to dine here quite frequently as the food is divine, if a little over priced. That was until a mistake was made with my order, and when I asked for the correct item, the owner came out and proceeded to argue with me that I had made the mistake when ordering and not her in the kitchen. What happened to the customer is always right? And in this case, I definitely was. Was quite an embarrassing experience being argued with in a public place, so have not been back since.

We dined at Metropolis for dinner and it was not up to our standards. The wait staff were slow and the overall service was not professional. The breads to start were burnt and not toasted consistently. We had 5 steaks on our table and they were all over cooked. Medium was well done and the rares medium. The chips tasted like they were cooked in 2 week old fat, the kumera chips were cold and the whole table felt the meals lacked seasoning and flavour! Not impressed with the ‘box’ mashed potato as well. We didnt get meal checked at any stage so there was no opportunity to tell staff our concerns. Dessert was ok, massive portions, bit too much for dessert. When we went to pay we were not greeted nicely or asked how anything was, but just told rudely that we could not use entertainment vouchers and that there was a few things left to pay. Not a nice way to farewell customers, we left angry and not wanting to come back. A shame as we have enjoyed dining here before, wont be back in a hurry.

Lovely courgette fritters and salad, then hot chocolate thanks – that for me. My husband loved his creamy mushrooms. Our friends enjoyed their meals too, just their tea was too strong but the lovely waitress made them another pot. Thankyou. See you again soon. Judy Chandler
